I am wondering when male medical students start thinking about settling down. I guess it depends on age and level of training... But still I want to know!

Not getting married until sometime in my early 30s. Even then, marriage is frightening. However, I don't believe in having kids out of wedlock, so I have to get married. The role of the traditional family in raising productive members of society is critical, a value that is slowly getting degraded in today's society.
Never. Why marry when you can use and abuse?
Oh good, another misc / men going their own way thread. We need more of these.
Lol...didn't know this many haters of marriage were prevalent. They are usually a huge minority in the real world 😛

How many married guys are actually happy with their marriage? If you're a conventional sort of person without much ambition/interests, then sure, marriage is great, but if you actually want to have fun in life it's a terrible decision to make.

I am. Very much so.

You can have fun in life AND be married. You are assuming marriage is a soul sucking existence. That's what happens when people marry for the wrong reasons, or rush to get married. There are TONS of people who are happy with their marriage, you just need to walk outside and observe a little! Yes, there are unhappy marriages left and right, but there are people who *gasp* want to settle down and live a happily married life.
I don't get how having ambitions/interests are bad for marriage. Maybe find someone normal who doesn't suck the life out of you?
It's like when someone mentioned to me a while ago that relationships ruin your life and you can no longer do anything fun. Well...maybe you two aren't compatible. I can easily see two happily married people living their lives to the fullest without hesistation.
As to this topic, there is no set timetable that guys can think of marriage. Depending on location, a fair amount of med students will be married coming into school. A higher number gets married before residency. Hell, I feel like one of the few single people left after graduating 😛
I live life a lot and go out enough, thanks. I have already nailed 6 women this year so far and it's September.
If you want to be married, go for it. I don't care. But you're not going to be able to do what you could do when you were single once you are married. This isn't the 1950s.
Insert Cool Story Bro jpeg here
Assuming I can pass medical school and match successfully, my parents will arrange my marriage when I am a PGY-3, or slightly later.
Very easy to be happy with a marriage when all you have to look forward to is soup and soaked-through starches.
You're joking, right??

Nah bro, that's how we do in India. Plus, Indian dudes aren't exactly what women want here in the US, so the whole arranged marriage thing is pretty much by best option to score a quality woman.
What about women in the US who are of East Indian descent? I'm sure they would like Indian dudes 😀

Or even white women.
I frequently hear East Indian and Asian men claim that American women don't want them and ascribing it to their ethnicity.
I'd venture that American women want the same basic things: someone they're compatible with, someone who they find attractive, makes them laugh, etc. There are preferences for height, weight, etc. but in the end, unless someone has some racial biases, American women don't rule out Indian (or Asian) men.
But anyway, back to this inane poll...

Lol 6 women in 8 months is mediocre at best if you're just trying to sleep with women. You've had sex, what, 10-20 times in the last year? I'm at 200+ being in a relationship, plus I spend probably 1% of the time and money you do trying to get laid.
I'm not saying that being single isn't awesome sometimes, but not having to deal with the idiocy and flaking of the average single woman allows you to perform a lot better in medical school.

Who ever said anything about soup and starches? Regardless, I fail to see how that's relevant. Please enlighten me.

See your user pic for enlightenment.

Wouldn't even have gotten here without her.

betas do get married
marriage is stupid crew checking in
Guys who act like this ruin it for the rest of us. Most of the people in your class will be married at some point or another during the 4 years you're in med school. If you want kids and a family you will need to get married. What's the big deal.
Same here. Being married in med school is awesome. I have my best friend here with me, I never have to shop or cook or do housework, and I have someone supporting me the whole way. Wouldn't even have gotten here without her.
Don't put that in writing.
To all who voted that marriage is stupid... what are you going to do when you are old, stooped over and all alone? You're not going to be young until you die and most people around you will probably be married by then = you will be VERY alone when you are old, sick, weak, etc etc.
