Would it help me in my science classes if I took calc I first? I'm not too great with numbers and it would sharpen up my math skills on the other hand it might be better to take it later since I will probably develop better study skills after I am done with most of my main sciences.

So do I use calc to help with other courses (chem, physics) or do I just forget about it for now and focus on other courses.

Calc will not help you with any science courses - with the exception of physics. That being said - mapping out your course load is a great idea.

For me - I took my math and physics together (first two semesters). Than I took my bios and chems together (final 2 semesters).

I had a very managable schedule. What I would not do is stack more than (2) difficult courses together in the same semester. Taking too much and getting a bad grade is far worse than going slow and slam dunking all of your courses.

It will help slightly in chem but A LOT (if not required) in physics, so I would say get it over with as soon as you can so you can worry about your other classes.

I'd say take it about a semester before PCAT so that it'll be absolute fresh in your brain, and immiedately take physics next semester so you'll do well in it.

I'm taking physics right now :smack: guess I'll save it for physics II

The best time in terms of the math sequence would be right after taking pre-calculus. That's just my mentality as a former math major.🙂 Math is one of those subjects that's best in sequence. Calculus doesn't really come into play for chemistry courses until after the organic sequence right around the time of physical chemistry. It will help for calculus-based physics but not non-calc based in my opinion.

I agree you should take calc soon after your other math courses so you don't forget. I honestly haven't thought about calc at all since I took that class except for three years later when I took the PCAT. Funny because my econ major friend was required to take less calc and actually used it in her classes.

the best time was when you were still in HS. 🙂

Hmm - the first thing that came to my mind was NEVER! Just joking - I know you have to have it for pharmacy school. I second the person who said right before the PCAT - I found that to be the most difficult portion of the test, especially in terms of time, so I think that being very fresh on your calculus would help.

I would take it before Chemistry II because it will help alot with all the different equations and formulas in Chemistry II.
