Where all ma late applicants at!?!?!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
THERE'S HOPE YET, guys and gals!! I was complete mid/late October and have finally started getting responses from schools. 3 II this week alone (4 II total). 4 pre-interview rejections.

3.8+. 31+. Good lucks, everyone!

This seems more the exception than the rule. Are you URM?

Hey guys,

Figured I would update: 2 iis, 1 rejection. Latest ii last week from mid Oct completion.

Finished 2 secondaries last Saturday night (several hours before their deadline)🙂

Plan to apply to 2 more state schools 👍

Good luck fellow procrastinators :luck: I like to check this thread for good news.

Congratulationms those are great schools! I think I may be out of the running for Tufts then, was complete late sep and no II

This thread made me feel so much better about life. Those school specific forums are crazy with people submitting in July and August! My school doesn't have any premed advisor so I had no idea that applying so early is necessary! Here's to the waiting game...and those last 3 secondaries....

If it makes you guys feel any better, I did a quick average of how long it's taken me to hear back from schools by month of secondary completion.

July: 14 days
August: 39 days
September: 49 days
October: Haven't heard back from any yet.

It just takes longer to hear back the later it is in the cycle. Try not to panic 🙂

Interviews with a 3.8 and 31+ mcat? Gotta be URMzzz ErmehGerd....

He wasn't complete until mid/late October. Lots of us have similar or better stats with September completions and still have less IIs, so I figured he had something different working in his favor. He has good stats, I never said he didn't.

FIRST II to Hofstra!!! Yayyy!!!!!!!!!!!! Submitted secondary 10/16ish (when i freaked out)

Complete at VCU on Friday, November 2. II on Monday, November 5.

There's hope, guys!! (VCU is my first choice too! You have no idea how happy I was!!)

My interview is in two days! So excited!

That's really great to hear. Congratulations 👍 Make sure you prepare for this interview like it's the only one you're going to get this cycle (hopefully not 🙂) and knock em dead tiger :xf:

Congrats!! Really prep for it, get answers gists/ideas down and research the hell out of the school!

Thank you so much! Yeah, I love VCU. It's my favourite school. So it's mutual 🙂

My uni's career services center just gave me a list of possible interview questions medical schools ask, so I'm going to be jotting down ideas on the plane.

Hmmm, that's awesome that you got that, but its' not something you'd probably want to broadcast to everyone. Either way, congrats and make sure you take full advantage of it. Good luck :xf:

Yeah, edit that out ASAP. VCU has been silent on my front (secondary complete Oct 24), and I got a secondary from Minnesota Twin Cities recently. This was the friendliest school to me in previous cycles despite having no ties (was on hold preinterview, then given a seemingly personalized letter on how to improve myself before applying again). That's been sitting there since Nov 30th as life keeps happening, lol. I want to send it in this week.

That's awfully nice of them to give you feedback! I wish my schools had done that. UMN-Duluth gave me a standardized "list of things that could have possibly been wrong with your application" which I found kind of helpful. Yeah, those were the two friendliest schools to me as well, although I have ties to Minnesota (I mean, idk if you'd call my fiancé's entire family being from Minnesota "ties", but I'm hoping).

First real rejection came today from U of Wisconsin. (I was rejected by Mayo, but that was a long shot.) I must say, I prefer getting a rejection than the response of "we might look at your application again in February or March if we don't get anyone better than you" that I got from another school.

Lots and lots of silence on most of my applications.

Eh, I'm 50/50 on this. On the one hand, I appreciate expediency and knowing for sure that I can stop thinking about that school cause they've stopped thinking about me. But on the other hand, there's a part of me that says "They liked you enough to keep you on and not reject you outright! That's not the best news, but it's not bad news!"

Of course, this only applies if they're actually considering you in the meantime rather than just stringing you along...

AMCAS confirmed September 2nd.
Most secondaries submitted by 09/15 (Submitted Top 15 Public MD 10/01)
II: 10/06
Interview: 11/14
Accepted 12/4

I am relieved that my application cycle is officially over. Everything else is essentially icing on top since this school is my top choice. My friends, that submitted at similar times are much less fortunate than me. I'm trying not to smile so much to not discourage anyone..

Update:

1 more ii and 1 more rejection, so that's 3 iis and 2 rejections total (all top 20)

Here are the messages I left on my friendly adcoms' voice mail...

Me: "Hey, you're going to call me, right?" Beep.

Me: "Hi, I'm just calling to remind you that you haven't called me." Beep.

Me: "I noticed you haven't called. Ok. So call me. Bye." Beep.

(Really, I just did a massive "applicant update": "Just finished this class with an A. Looking forward to getting that magical email from you. Hugs and kisses, squat")

Any updates yo? Still at 1 ii with a couple of more rejections 9-10 rejections,

and some of my safety schools have already started offering interviews to people complete after me with worse stats :/

Still no news for me

3 II, 3 rejections and nothing else from the other 15 schools for 3 months now. It seems so strange, as if there is something wrong with my app. But then again, those 3 II are from good schools.

I dislike this process.

And there's the problem right there. In almost every post, question, etc... you reference this mythical all-determining "stats." Like I tried to say waaaaay back in this thread, it's really not all about stats. (Unless, of course, you're a 4.0/40 student) It's about the story. Your stats are not keeping you from getting interviews, trust.

But back to me: Ended up submitting 29 secondaries (of the 30 I received). Have received 21 interview invites (although they slowed to a trickle after 11/15), and so far accepted into 2 schools.

dafuq ..... where did you apply?!

Oh, wow. A school actually wrote back, "Hopefully your file will be reviewed soon to determine if we can offer you an interview." Man, if I get ONE bite from my update I would be thrilled.

That is just amazing to me. I don't know how you managed to write compelling essays for that many schools. I felt like I was enrolled in some sort of crazy intensive writing class for the months of September and October. (And I've got a very well-crafted PS....makes people cry. Really.)

Wow, 21 Invites?😱 Congrats, congrats, congrats!! How many have you went on? I used to want more, but after being completely broke, I find myself secretly wishing for rejections so I don't have to make that choice .

I'm complete at 15 schools out of the 21 that I applied to. I was thinking about getting 1 or 2 more secondaries out. Is it worth it or should I just save my money and ride with what I have?

Broadly. Very broadly.

One... it was awful. I cringe at the coffeeshop bills that I probably accrued during that process. There are a dozen or so baristas at different spots that have my order memorized. Two... a compelling essay written for one school is still a compelling essay, even when used for another school. Recycling FTW.

Thanks. I've gone on 14, but scheduled about 8 of them so I was flying directly from interview to interview. And I passed broke long long ago.

Just got an acceptance! WhooHoo!

OOS in a Texas school. No word from my state school yet, but not caring much 🙂

Congrats!! Which Texas school?! Isn't it impossible to get into a Texas school as an OOS applicant?

Completed most secondaries mid to end of november. How screwed am I?

Tech in Lubbock. They have a fast-track family medicine program that goes straight into residency (6 years total).

They don't let in many OOS, but once you get and interview, the chances of getting in are pretty dang good.

I don't think you are screwed, but just know that I'm in the same boat, and have received exactly zero interviews. I have a 3.3 GPA and 34 MCAT.

Anybody else experiencing a mid application crisis? (like a mid life crisis but for med apps) @_@

My new year's resolution is to get accepted to medical school 🙁
