Where all ma late applicants at!?!?!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, i submitted most of my secondaries mid october through early november. I've been lucky with a few ii's but i'm still waiting on a majority of schools. I applied very broadly and i think i have average matriculant stats.

Is it crazy to think i'll get a few more ii's?

How many did you get so far?

Literally submitted all of my secondaries on the first of november, only submitted 7 and have so far recieved II's from 4 schools.

Sigh that means I'm basically fuxxed. I think I applied too top heavy.

I'm not really comfortable with listing them, but if you would like you can PM me where you applied and I will let you know if they are among those schools.

Sorry 🙁

Apart from rejections, I have heard nothing from schools, including ones that screen. Should I send a letter of interest? I don't have much to update...

Depends on the school. At some schools LOIs are only useful post interview, others they don't help at all, and then of course there are other schools that like them at any stage. I'd say search the school specific threads for the places you applied to for the prevailing opinion on LOIs at that school. Either that or ask this question on those threads. Good luck!

Do you guys think that we'll hear anything this week or no?

i would recommend you guys send interest/update letters to basically every school.

i have come to realize that this application process is extremely subjective and that they are simply looking for qualified applicants who have a real interest in the school. an interest letter (pre-interview) is one way to show that you care about the specific school. just make sure that it's extremely sincere.

both of my interviews happened 1-2 weeks after sending interest letters.

Are letters of interest handwritten, typed and mailed, or emailed?

So, I just analyzed my spreadsheet where I keep all my data and starting messing with it. However, I didn't do the obvious thing and just sort by date completed. I'm sad to say, all the schools whose application I completed in October I have been rejected from... =( NYMC is the only exception, but then again, the status page says I was completed Nov 27th for some reason, lol.

34 MCAT, 3.3 uGPA

you can just email them. some people also send in nice typed letters as well. any way works.

How about one rejection early on, rest pure SILENCE..... Just nothing.
Any interpretation, anyone , 3.3 GPA 38 MCAT

Well I have a 3.74/34 and have like 12 rejections so I think silence is better than rejection

That's pretty rough. Is there an underlying reason for that? Perhaps a risky personal statement or a criminal history?

No criminal history- Probably just average essays/ec's. Maybe my LOR sucked lol

I know i have excellent LORs , 3 of my ref told me so. I know people who applied to two of same schools as me, pimary and sec both much later, gpa marginally better, mcat way way low--- got called , mine still shows as " will be reviewed" , what gives? It def isn't about timing...

Also, what do people mean when they say "on hold" ? mine just say 'complete' and " all you will know during the cycle is if you are called for an interview"

I can't believe i only applied to schools that give silent rejections! How are pre- interview rejections sent?

Still no love from my top choice, so writing a Hail Mary LOI/update/impregnate me wit ur bebies pre-interview letter. A bit sad about it, but no complaints here, really. Almost 90% of my secondaries have resulted in interview invites, and to date 50% of my interviews attended have yielded an acceptance.

tl; dr: For future late applicants, it can be done. (But avoid it if you can)

what are your stats/schools applied to?

no ii this week either, still sitting at 1 ii out of 33 schools, 14 rejections, 7 more to come, and silence from the 11 schools I have a chance at

gpa <3.4 mcat>37
As far as schools go, i checked on the 2012-2013 rejection thread . All but 4 of my 17 send out pre-interview rejections. I have a feeling all of us are waiting for the same 11. I have read "nothing from 11" by many people

ridiculous how some people with mediocre stats get so many interviews while others with much better stats don't get interviews at all. dont want to sound like a hater but god dammit this thing is unfair

I've gotten a couple more II these last few weeks bringing my II total to 5. So I guess I should not complain.

21 Schools complete, 3 rejections, 5 II, 13 still silent. IDK.

Not to beat a dead horse, but stats are but a part of the whole application. A strong PS, LORs, ECs, as well as a careful crafting of the descriptions of your primary activities and secondary responses are all important. Your "mediocre" stat people who did get IIs did not just get them out of an ADCOM's sense of pit or compassion. They earned it by working hard to bring other strengths to their application. ADCOMs look for many markers that are indicative of success in medical school, stats being one of them. I would hardly call this process "unfair" or "ridiculous". It can be frustrating and appear random at times, but these ADCOMs know what they are doing. Just look at attrition rates in medical school, once you matriculated you will graduate and become a physician.

Finished last secondary Monday night (on the deadline)...call from Director of Admissions for ii Wed morning!

My last 2 ii were also from my top choices which I applied to on their deadline (Dec 1).

Total: 6 ii 4 rejections 5 silences

Good luck and don't lose hope!! :luck:

Got my first acceptance last night, and it happened to be at my top choice! Looks like the late July MCAT didn't screw me after all. Good luck to everyone else!

Do you guys think that we'll hear anything this week or no?

Heard anything from anywhere ? I got one rejection by mail. I am beginning to feel hopeless for this year. 🙁 I wish I knew what else I could do. 🙁 🙁

just got a rejection from SUNY upstate =/

Hey all,

I submitted most of my secondaries around early September so I wasn't exactly early either. I just got a surge of interview invites, 3 in the past week and i had 3 before which brought me up to 6 ii. I just completed my first interview recently and have a lot more to look forward to so it's definitely possible! My stats are also pretty mediocre so I'm very happy with where I'm at right now.

Would you mind mentioning some schools that are still sending invites, please. Just for rope like me to see if they can still hope.

This process has made me so depressed- I never thought my cycle would of turned out this way.

Same. I've also put off thinking about my gap year plans til now.

My Mdapps shows the schools, even though I applied to a lot of top schools, I applied to 33 schools in general, 10 top 10 mid tier, 10 low tier, 1 ii :/

Man I feel like with your stats/app you should definitely at least have more interview invites!

Hang in there, a few schools aren't rolling, others push you to later in the cycle before they interview you, and others hold/waitlist people until they are "officially" rejected, so there is still hope. I don't know where you applied, but at least some places are still sending invites, and not hearing anything is better than a rejection, even if it doesn't feel that way.

One year isn't so bad, we just need to find something valuable to do in the meantime.

I got an OOS invite from Wayne State this week. (Kindly declined.) Still want VCU, though 🙂

Invites from Tufts and UCSD this past week (both declined), and UCSF earlier this month.

So how did everything fare out for people complete in September ++

Zilch here! No interview, a few rejections! Woooo!

Finished primary in September (had a school hoarding a transcript for a single class for eight weeks because of a bureaucratic snafu)

So far, my one acceptance was: secondary finished in September, II three days after, interview in November, accepted in December.

Waiting on word from an interview two weeks ago and silence from every other school.

Oh hey everyone,
I thought I posted in here ages ago but I guess not. I submitted late September... I've received 4 interviews so far and a couple of rejections (and possibly a couple silent ones too). Extremely low gpa and average MCAT. I've been told I have great writing skills so hopefully that's been in my favor too.

Let's all hang in there! 😀
