white hairs!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Med school is giving me white hairs... I'm 25 and I have counted maybe 10 or so white hairs right now. 🙁

I hate you med school! 😀

I don't even want to think about what Step 1 will do to me.

LOL. I hear you. I have gray hair coming in as well. Not a whole lot yet, but it is MUCH sooner than any of my first degree relatives. I'm sure it has something to do with the stresses of medicine.

Forget about medical school and step 1... Just wait until residency starts and you hit internship year! One of my buddies, who is now a senior resident, told me that he literally turned gray, and not just a few strands here and there, after his internship year. Yikes! I'm starting my internship in a couple of months. 😱 :scared:

I actually have my only white hair, and its in my eyebrow.

There was a thread up here not long ago about med students losing their hair, these things do happen unfortunately. I found a white hair myself yesterday, but have had a few crop up from time to time.

If you don't like it, get some just for men. It's endorsed by keith hernandez so you can't go wrong.

Look on the bright side: when you get to residency you'll look older and your patients will trust you!

But yes, it sucks. I was already predisposed to grey. My mother grayed very early, and both my parents smoke (second hand smoke is assocated with premature graying). Add in med school and it was over. I'm only 26 and I am about 60% grey. I dye my hair ever month or so (it was really bad during residency interviews since I had to do it every 2-3 weeks to keep the grey at bay)

touch of grey baby!

Going gray can make you look distinguished, and even sexy in the eyes of some. Going bald is a worse outcome, sadly one that I am approaching. Youth is gone before you learn to appreciate it.

Word. I just want to keep my hair long enough for it to go gray! I was losing hair and getting some grays before med school, its only gotten worse on both fronts. I have chosen to fight the hair loss, I refuse to dye my hair though.

One of the star sales guys at the company I used to work for was on the young side. He would dye his hair gray, I guess so that people would take him more seriously.

Well I still have a full head of hair which is more important I guess. 👍 😀

Sorry about the gray hair man. My hair usually doesn't turn gray until after it falls of the noggin. I just hope that I'll be good lookin' as a bald guy.

While Stress/negative smoking etc.... ofcourse worsen the whole thing.

But isn't that gray hair thing genetically pre-determined ?

So , i mean , you would have ended up with gray hair at such (relatively)early age anyway ..

One more thing is that people having gray hair in their 20s are alot more than you think ( it's only that one can notice it easily on dark-haired compared to blondies ).

I saw my first gray hairs this year, although it's <10, and they're probably not noticeable to the average person. The question is... how quick will the progression be? Fortunately, I still have a very thick head of hair -- no signs of balding at this point.

I found a white hair this summer.... it was actually kind of exciting for me. Haha strange I know. It makes me think I'm getting wiser hehe I can't wait to grow old, in a healthy and wise way.

I feel for you. Dye it and go into a denial about for a while?
