Good luck with your interview....the halls will be pretty empty when you get to Case because we will be off for Spring Break!

I think the easiest route is through the following. When you get to the front of the dental clinic entrance, instead of going into the clinic, on the left side of the building facing Cornell(on the outside, after when you turn the corner), there will be stairs leading to the second level. Follow those stairs and as soon as you've reached the second level, turn right and follow the pathway to the dental school. There should be an entrance to the school further down on the left, go in and turn left on the first hallway. You should then pass the elevators and enter the double doors of the admission office. Follow the hallway that turns right around the corner and the room will be located on the most upperleft down the hallway.

How long is the spring break, Musketeer? And do yo guys get a summer/winter break?

The best way to save on air tickets is to book them at least 3 weeks in advance. I paid $379 for an airfair from Cleveland to Florida (Nova interview), but the funniest part was that the tickets were $190 cheaper a day before 😡

Just out of curiousity, what are all the breaks we get during the four years? I just know we get 3 months off after 1st year in the summer. From my understanding winter and summer breaks after that are 3 months.

How is the parking situation at Case? Which lots are open to graduate students? I know there is one under the Medical School Library, By the One to One Fitness Center, and some that are on North Side of Campus. Are there new lots that openned? Also, what is the cost of on campus parking?

Hi guys, I am right now 90% sure I am going to Case next year. I was waitlisted at my state school:-(, but I look forward to be at Case next year. I was wondering, even though I am not 100% sure Im going to Case, should I still log in the Case network and fill out financial aid? Thanks

Spring Break is the usual 1 week. But the summer after 1st year you will get 3 months off. Many of us will obtain a research position at the dental school during this time.

After first year, you will have only 3 weeks off in Christmas and summer.

Oops...my bad. I meant to say three WEEKS not three MONTHS after 1st year. But thanks for the clarification.

has anyone been rejected by case after their interview?

cuz i'm wondering how this alternate list all works?

so for NON ALTERNATE list...they've obviously interviewed all these people...and ppl who got accepted, are accepted. and what about those who weren't?

were the REJECTED?, put on HOLD?, or put on the alternate list too?

and as for ppl interviewing for the alternate list...are we ADDING onto another list...or is this a 'fresh list'?

does this make sense? 😕

thanks.
i tried searching for more threads like this...but no luck..maybe i didn't try hard enough?

hello fellow torontonian!

from what i understood, the alternate list is basically the waiting list. if you get an interview, and don't get an acceptance but they want to put you on the waiting list, then you're on it. i'm sure they can flat out reject you too...

when they're full, they still give interviews for the alternate list.

basically.. the alternate is if people drop out, and.. they will review all the people on the alternate list and consider giving them a deferred acceptance for next year.

anybody can correct me if i'm wrong.. this is my "best guess".

CASE normally fill their class by DEC/JAN, anyone interviewed after, who they are interested, automatically goes to the alternate/wait list. The school normally ends up using applicants on this list - depending on the accepted students either decide to stay or go elsewhere.

Currently, (I am sure ) there people who are using CASE as a back-up school, until they hear from their #1 choice.

Hope that helps.

so people who are interviewed before december are either accepted or rejected?

i thought the people interviewed after (for the alternate list) can get REJECTED for the alternate list... that's what i assumed.

fruity_trident, i guess you got an interview for the alternate list?

CASE can reject/accept at any given date (I believe) after DEC 1st. I am not aware of any schedule the school uses to notify the dicisions, except they start doing it on DEC 1st.

Let me simplfiy it for you, here are couple of scenarios:

Applicant A: Interviewed in August, gets a letter from the school DEC 1st, ACCEPTED!

Applicant B: Interviewed in August too, gets a letter from the school DEC 1st, REJECTED!

Applicant C: Interviewed in January, gets a letter from the school (let's say) February, Alternate list. Then in April, gets another letter from the school, ACCEPTED!

Applicant D: Interviewed in January, gets a letter from the school (let's say) February, Alternate list. Then in April, gets another letter from the school, REJECTED!

Good Luck

Hey there,
thanks..this is pretty helpful...but what about this one"

Applicant E: Interviewed in March (1st round of Alt List interviewees), gets a letter from the school (let's say) WHEN???, Alternate list. Then in WHEN??, gets another letter from the school, LIKELY OUTCOME??!
...or if it's a rejection...i'm assuming it's way faster than an acceptance huh?..since the case alt. list is pretty long 🙁

i wanna go..i wanna i wanna....i'm gonna try hard..be aggressive...*roar* 😀 😎

and
hobbyshop - yes, i'm alt. list interviewing on the 10th.

I totally understand that you are trying to be aggressive, and dental schools LOVE that. Don't forget to email thank you letters to the people that interviewed you. Telling them how much you love THEIR school and how much you liked them. I know in my case, that really helped. I don't know much boaut how the alternative list works, but I know a little about the waitlist. WHen I interviewed at Case, I was talking to the secretary. She told me that if you are waitlisted, there is virtually no chance that you will get in. How it works is that they only look at the waitlist once they are done interviewing the alternate list. However, they always fill their spots with new people and havent looked at the waitlist since she has been working there. She has been working there for many years now. If you want any more advice, jus give me a pm, hope this helps!

anybody can correct me if i'm wrong.. this is my "best guess".

From a conversation I had with an admissions staffer, the alternate list and the wait list are two seperate lists. I had called Case for an individual question and a freind of mine had asked me to clarify his situation by asking the admissions staffer for him.

He interviewed ~Jan 18 and was put on the waitlist after his interview. My friend was under the impression that it was the same as being on the alternate list. When I asked the admissions staffer about his situation he explained that being on the waitlist is worse than being on the alternate list. He said that once you do a regular interview, non-alternate list interview, you are accepted, waitlisted or rejected. They then start the interviews for the alternate list, and compile their alt list from those interviews. The admissions staffer explained that the only way my freind would be getting an acceptance is if in trying to fill the class the school exausted the alternate list, they would then start pulling people off of the waitlist. So in short the order a student falls in getting an acceptance is: 1) People who are accepted 2) People on the alternate list, 3) People on the waitlist.

The staffer summed up the explanation by saying that if your on the waitlist that chances of getting an acceptance are pretty slim.

THANK YOU! 😍

this is SOOOOOOOOOOO clear...so i'm gonna interview on thursday..and KNOCK THEIR SOCKS OFF 😍 👍 ..hopefully.

grinningrice - thanks for the 'being aggresive' comment. u're awesome!..i remember reading some of your threads..u're the one from purdue (my buddy is there too), who FLASHED (your bra) to your interviewer huh?..was that case?...i can do some of that action 👍 😀

at my 1st 2 interviews..i didn't want to be a kiss a$$..so i wasn't very aggressive...i emailed..showed my interest...but that was it
But case... 😍 ohh case 😍 😍 ...aggresive i shall be 👍
i checked out some interview experiences...by golly (lol)...there weren't any NEGATIVES!! woah

Hey Fruity, Case interviews are not hard at all, they are just like regular conversations. Because of the ease of these interviews, you should make yourself stand out - you are basically 'selling yourself to the school'. Just be aggressive, as you said, be professional in your response but also be expressive as well (no one wants to listening to a dull person).

Good Luck and have fun in Cleveland!

HAHA, np 👍 I did not flash anyone at Case, it was at Temple. I got waitlisted, but thats ok. I was the same way at my first interview, meak and not very aggressive, but I soon learned how to sell myself 🙂 One of the fellow applicants said something to me at a later interview, but I told him, "If I am not going to sell myself, who is?" I sure as heck was not there to impress him. Good luck again

Hey B,

Good luck on your interview on Thursday.....forget the other 2 schools if we have a shot at Case 😀 . I'm sure you'll do great, and then u can give me a heads up for my interview later this month 😳 . Kick some ass!!! 👍

On average, how many days of the week do you guys stay late (beyond 5/6pm) your first year? Also, what is the lastest you stay at school?

This is a stupid question, but I was just curious. How late are your libraries open? I have had such a problem with the libraries at my university closing at 10 pm on a saterday night and 2 am on weekdays! I was kinda hoping that the libraries would have better hours at Case.

there is a library across Euclid open 24/7

i wanna go to case. i wanna i wanna.
campus is wonderful.
cleveland is greaaat 🙂

accepted ppl: start declining acceptances so that i can move up 😀

...and so the hustling begins... 😉

I think many people stayed later than 5 pm (excluding going to the library to study), is to go to the cadaver lab to prepare for upcoming exam. Other courses are just pure studying and if there are lab work, like in BP Fixed, the simulation lab will only open till 5 pm so you will not be able to do any lab work thereafter.

Yes, the Kelvin Smith Library (main undergrad library) opens 24/7, while many others (including Health Sci library in the medical building) will open till midnight on weekdays and normally opens 1/2 days on Saturday and Sunday. You can check under the case.edu website for more information.

Another alternative is to study in the lecture rooms in the Nursing building. As dental students, you will have card access to the building at anytime and if you don't mind the quiet and empty hallways at night, you can also study there!

I can try to dropout and maybe you can have my spot! <j/k> 😀

For those who is going to CWRU: what your DAT scores were like? I will be taking DAT on May 25 and Case is my 1st choice school. Just wanted to know what it takes to get in.

I got 17AA/20PAT/16OC/16GC/19Bi/20RC/17TS/16MATH. I was accepted the first round. I don't know how. My scores are pretty sick.

hey tooth, i can't believe you pulled out one of my antique posts 😀 😛 but still thanks for sharing your stats...

btw, what do you think got you in? 🙂

There will be another wave of uncertain applicants in a few months, so I think they will find your information quite usefully.

Having said that, i will see you in august :luck: ... can't wait 'till the school starts already!

Guys, help me out here... How is the parking like at Case?

I am still looking to buy a condo somewhere around Case area, but it's either out of my league or a piece of crap. Originally, I was looking for a condo from a walking distance from Case so I can save some money on car insurance, but looks like I will have to drive. Anyhow, I need to know if I will have to cut ahead of traffic so I can find parking and be on time to classes. If that's the case, then I'll be looking for something, still, as close as possible, 'cause I hate waking up early 😳

I hope some of you will understand my dilemma 😀

There is a private parking lot just 5 min walk from dental school where people park. You will have to pay monthly parking there of course and the cost is about $40/month. If you go talk to the owner early before school starts you can negotiate for a lower price.

The lot is just off Cornell, if you go on Cornell (heading up the hill), over the bridge, and the first light after the bridge you turn left, there will be a abandon warehouse on the left side further down the street....that's the parking lot.

Thanks Musketeer, but aren't you supposed to be studying instead of reading SDN?! 😉 kidding 😀 I'll go to see that parking lot tomorrow, maybe i'll talk them into a better deal. What about the parking lot right across the hospital? It seems to be pretty close to dental school.

Yes, you can try...but they usually reserve those primarily for professors and researchers and if there are some left then the students can get a shot.

You will get your ID during orientation. However, there is minimal security at Veale centre anytime before 2 pm so it is possible for you to sneak in before that time. If not, just bring a copy of your admission letter if they do ask for ID and maybe they will let you through.

Hey everybody. It's been a long time since I've been on this , didn't know people still posted. Just wanted to welcome the class of 2009 and 2009 hopefuls. I've heard that there were certain people here looking for a place to live ex. Waldorf, Triangle, Delt house etc... My advice is to come down and look for yourself because Cleveland is a "special" city where housing can be ...interesting. Anyway I encourage anyone to email me more about this or any other concerns that people may have and may not want to post.

Good luck and/or congrats.

Yes, I concur with Mr. Wu here. You should come and check places out. The best time to look for housing would be around mid-May to early June because convocation occurs mid May and people who graduate will most likely be moving out at the end of May. One excellent source of housing is the housing list on Case website (I am sure everyone will/have receive the link). Anyways, enjoy the rest of your relative 'free time' and PM me if you still have more questions.

I spoke to a fellow SDNer about talking to Brian (I think thats his name) about finding a roommate for next year. I also thought I would try here too. Any female interested in being roommates, give me a pm.

IF I GET ACCEPTED...i'll be your ROOMY..LOL! 😀

i'm very neat..clean..mostly quiet (when studying)..and i don't steal...so i think those are good qualities of a roomy..don't u think so too?

In about a month for so, Brian will mail out a roommate questionnaire sheet for students who are looking for a roommate. However, from what I've learned last year, this process takes too much time and by the time he receive all the questionnaire and formulate a potential roommate list, it will be late May, unless if the other roommate has already gotten a place, searching for a house during mid-June will be a bit late as all the good housing have been taken.

Try to ask Brian if he can mail the questionnaire earlier so the process will be somewhat quicker!

Anyone know how big Case's waitlist is/will become? or how they rank people?

I still go their "alternate list" interview on May 3rd... you guys think there is any point for me to fly all the way there still?
