Some of us should be hearing from FSU today, too. Good luck to all.

Good luck to all hearing within next couple of days. The wait can be nerve recking.

Good luck everyone. I hope you all hear good news. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I got a quick question.
I have heard from all the schools. The only two places I haven't heard is USF and FSU. I look up my application and it always says "complete but not processed". I submitted very early in the game. I called FSU and the lady looked up my profile and said that it is strange that they haven't reviewed my application. I am not sure what's going on. Has any of you gotten a "hold" notice or something. I can deal with being put on hold or even rejected but it seems like the wait and not knowing what's going on is killing me. I got accepted at NSU and have an interview at Miami this week so I thought that it wouldn't bother me so much, but man it is literally killing me. Especially knowing that USF is my number one choice. I would love to get it over with so I can move on with my life, or whatever part that resembles that of a normal life.
Thanks

Hmm have you tried calling REL???? I'd call him and see if he can look up your application and tell you what's going on.

Im in the same boat as you. Ive called FSU and she seemed suprised that I am still being reviewed as well, and the statement listed on USFs website is driving me crazy. I was thinking of calling USF this week, let me know if you did.

I have just the opposite problem, USF, UF and FSU all responded within reasonable time, but I have heard nothing from Miami at all. I consider myself fairly competetive for any of the Florida scools.

alternative medicine is an entire branch including anything that is not considered "traditional western medicine". Homeopathy is a little weird since it was actually created in Germany...and OMM is often paired into it too...but if you look in the ama family medical guide it has a decent description..I am too lazy. Herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga, prayer, acupuncture, aroma therapy, tai chi, homeopathy..all of that stuff is considered "alternative medicine"
Right. Even osteopathy used to be considered "alternative" when it first arose to compete with allopathy in the mid 1800s. 🙂

Hey, onmyway, congrats on the acceptances!

I was rejected from UMiami (stated my GPA was lower than cutoff for grad school and UF . My secondary is not complete at USF or FSU. USF app is a beast. Am I really late in the game. I have submitted both secondaries, but Im waiting for letters to be processed. All of my eggs arent in one basket , I have applied to many other MD and DO schools, but I feel Florida schools are my best shot. Im a FL resident. My grad GPA is 3.44 , MCAT 33. Any words of encouragement?

What is your UG GPA like? ECs? LORs? How balanced is your MCAT score? Publications? Do you have a PhD or MS? It's hard to say much of anything based on the info you've given. I didn't know that FL schools screened for grad GPAs. Interesting.

I still have the FSU secondary to turn in tonight. I'm trying to get the USF and UF secondaries mailed in by Thursday. I fear that my late applications (after LORs processed) and really messed up MCAT will hurt my odds a lot.

Thank you QofQuimica. They will let in anyone these days. The schools don't know what they are getting into. I guess they are figuring better in med than in law schools.
Just kidding. I am extremely happy with the process so far. I had never imagined it would go so well.
thanks again

I have a pretty ****ty UG GPA, 2.9 . I took basically every science class that you can take apart from that, my ECS are great. Varsity Lacrosse 4 years, Class vice president two years. Volunteering, part time jobs, etc. LORs should be very good, I havent actually read them though. MCAT = 12/11/10 , so balanced I suppose. Im doing a masters now. My research is pretty bangin' . Ive had two poster presentations before from previous research. Im presenting at a national conference in the spring, and should have two publications by then. I figure I might have a chance at FSU , maybe USF.

ITS FINAL: I'M A USF COM BULL C/O 2011

Good luck to all who are expecting to hear from USF.

I am waiting to hear from Miami today too. Dr. Hinkley said he'd call, but you guys got emails, right? I wonder how this is going to work today....it's killing me!

Rajad and Company is taking shape. Want to run for elections Rajad ?

Yea, it really is taking shape; in fact, I'm surprised by the amount of people on this thread who are choosing USF. Elections are obviously a must

Make an Appt with Mrs. Suzanne Jackson of the USF COM Academic Enrichment Office.

Agreed. There are a ton of people I know who are picking USF as a first choice. Normally 50% of the people accepted there drop and go to another school where they are also accepted. I guess there are just a ton of people this year who really either like Tampa or like USF tons so don't mind Tampa. hehehe

Congrats to the new acceptees!!!

man, i hear from USF in less than twenty-four hours...the countdown is killin me, hehe

Bilal, Have you heard from USF yet. I understand they have not called several people yet.

I'm guessing that this is a big part of your problem. My understanding is that all of the FL schools screen for UG GPA, and since yours is below 3.0, that's going to make your life very difficult. Your grad GPA is decent, but IMO it's not high enough where it could help compensate for the low UG GPA. Do you at least show an upward trend for UG? (In other words, maybe you had a bad freshman year but then got fantastic grades as an upperclassman?) Your MCAT looks great and so does your research. So assuming your LORs are good, I think the UG GPA is your biggest Achilles' heel. I suggest that you talk to REL about this if you're serious about USF, as well as his counterpart at FSU. You could even PM him here on SDN if you wanted or ask him to post here.

P.S. One more thing: you didn't mention whether you do any shadowing. If you have no clinical experiences, I think that is also going to be a problem for you at any of the FL schools.

yeah i got waitlisted at usf, time for the long-haul...sigh

Sorry to hear that you are on the waiting list, did REL tell you the outlook. I hope it works out for you.

I was completed at about the same time for all fl schools, end of sept, and got an interview invite for UM on Monday so keep a look-out.

Sorry, Bilal. I thought you were going to get the acceptance. Here's to hoping you get an acceptance soon.

My GPA does show an upward trend (albiet not fantastic) . The grad classes here are the same as the med ones , just more detail (from the mouth of several professors who teach both) . Im now tutoring most of the subjects I did ****ty in. Thats somewhat paradoxical, I know but I do know the material. I think I proved that on the MCAT . I do have clinical shadowing experiance. That is part of what I did while working at the ER, shadow physicians and nurse practitioners. I might be sending REL an PM. Is REL associated with USF? QofQuimica , thats for taking an object look and not flaming.

Congrats JBL! Hopefully I'll see you next yr in med school 👍

So far you're the only person I know from UM that got into Miami regular decision. Everyone else that I know that got in are MSP students.

Hello everyone! I'm a medical student at Miami Miller that the admissions office asked to be a liaison between the school and SDN. If any of you ever have questions for Dr.Hinkley about the process or whats going on, feel free to contact me and I'll either ask him for you or just answer it for you myself if I know the answer.

Dr.Hinkley asked me to set up this account last year to help make sure you guys have the right info and not just rumors. Feel free to contact me with any general questions you might have about the Miami admissions process!

JBL, are you going to Miami next year? I am trying to decide, but I really really loved it there. Congrats to all of you who got in! Woo Hoo! 😉

Hey you guys I just wanted to echo UMMSM. If you have any questions, then please do send any questions their way. It will be really beneficial to you all. I promise. 😀

:luck:

At this point I have no clue where I'm going, if its not Miami probably somewhere out of state. I'm still missing two very important interviews OOS next week and I'm gonna wait till I hear from them. Also I have to consider financial aid and such. Lets see what happens 🙂

Congrats all Florida folks!!!

Now if I could just get REL to call me and offer me an interview. 😉

Perhaps that isn't necessarily a bad position to be in. You may still get off the waitlist if you are in the top 50 even if barely hanging in there. Good luck!!! My friend interviewed the last day of interviews or second to last date of interviews and was waitlisted and found out by June during the last cycle. So you never know. Keep up the faith and update USF with anything new you've done to see if that helps your case. Or ask REL whether doing such would help your case at the least.
