While this cycle's applicants are anxiously awaiting news about interviews, some healthy distraction from current students would be very welcome!

Current students, why do you love your school? Tell us about what life is like where you live.

I suppose if you don't love your school or living situation, you could be honest about that too 😉

I'm a first year at Mizzou right now! I love how supportive the community here is. The faculty I've met so far are all very willing to go out of their way to help us succeed. For example, anatomy is something I struggle with, and I've been able to meet up with my professor outside of scheduled lab time to go over structures together. The other students are all great too - we share all kinds of study material with one another and it really feels like we are working together to become great vets!

First year at AVC. I find both professors and other students to be very amicable and there is an abundance of resources provided to help us succeed. It really feels like a community, compared to undergrad where everything was a competition. Even now as we are in the heat of midterm after presentation after midterm, I feel like I'm much better prepared for the things that come my way than I ever was before vet school. And I love all the extracurricular stuff too, I think lambing has been my favourite so far (I'm sure the sheep obsession made that readily deducible though).

I really enjoy life on the island outside of classes, too. Granted, I'm from Nova Scotia so PEI hardly differs geographically or culturally, but living in Charlottetown certainly feels like a luxury compared to the rural area I grew up! I can take the bus for free anywhere around town (recently I've been spending my off-lab days going down to read and contemplate in the park by the harbour). I try to make it a habit on Saturdays to walk to the farmer's market and visit the library. I never expected my physical health would improve during vet school of all things.
🙂

Also a first year at AVC! I'm from the U.S. and received acceptances from three U.S. schools, but after touring all of them AVC felt the best suited for me. The location, high NAVLE pass rate, and the ability to select electives in your third year are big reasons why I chose to move my life here. I love the small class size and the true sense of community and caring from faculty and upper year veterinary students. The professors are so knowledgable and there are so many extracurricular opportunities and ways to increase exposure to clinical work. It was also important for me to be somewhere beautiful as I destress the best by being outside- the beach access here is unreal! If anyone has any questions about the program or living here feel free to message me!

I'm unreasonably excited over having another AVC '28 student still on SDN. I'm glad you're loving it also! Only like a week and a bit left of the midterm tsunami 🙂

I just started this semester, but I really like how ISU emphasizes important concepts horizontally across our coursework! Having things explained by several lecturers through different lenses of study has really helped me to truly pick them up in a nuanced way.

Considering transferring for personal reasons, but it's not because of the program. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to entering students so far.

I'm not in vet school yet, but I am currently doing an MPH at Mizzou and the community is the best part of the program. Mizzou is top of my list for schools right now because my experience in the MPH program has been so phenomenal.
