yes wizi very funny, anything else to add? wisecracks are not really useful in the real world lol

i was complete a month and a half before i got my interview invite. Probably the best idea is to contact them.

I've submitted NYU 4 months ago, and sent the checks 2 months ago....

Maybe NYU just doesn't find you a match? Or, they want to interview students with higher stats first, then send out more interviews Post-Dec1 after students turn down their acceptance.

On another note, I would try to call to check the status of your application...

Check, as mentioned, sent early July, cashed by NYU mid July.
Got an e-mail yesterday saying my application has been on hold the whole time because I never sent in my application fee.... :eyebrow:

Point is...your not alone...i feel your pain...because i want to hear from them too! :xf:

At least you got a completion email. See my previous post

Completion email > application on hold e-mail because we cashed your check but didn't mark it down on your application

i called them, im still under review (as per the email) they said they have 3,800 applicants so be patient.

grrr.... gotta wait! hate it!

Hey,
I would probably wait it out. It took about a month and a half for them to give me an interview invite after they had received my app.

Also, I usually don't suggest calling schools about apps because I am pretty sure they get that hundreds of times each week.

If you think something may actually be wrong, then definitely contact them but otherwise, just chill. Thats basically what I have been doing, a lot of chillin lol

Good luck man

right, i just called made sure im still under review, its been a month and a half for me too, thats why i called. i didnt wanna bug them, but just wanted to make sure im still in the game. waiting sucks! seems like all the june, july and early august people got more than me, late august sucks lol

I got my app complete email on Aug 26 and still nothing. I've called them a couple times and they said that nothing was holding me up and my app was complete. Still under review.

So either they're setting me aside for now or they just genuinely haven't gotten to me.

Maybe they interviews based on some sort of criteria, hard to tell. predents has about 70 interviews, but the stats are all over the place.

You should remind them of the "first come first served" theory.

I just called them... explaining my scenario about how my application was delayed for 4 fricken months to their wrong doing, and asked if it was possible to be granted a courtesy interview.

He just said, "just because your application is delayed doesn't mean you get a courtesy interview."

Actually, sorta, kinda, really, royally pissed.

I guess rushing to get my AADSAS out the first batch doesn't matter. I'm now a mid-October applicant, :soexcited:

just focus on your other interviews, what can you really do? seems like d-schools are the Prom queens and we are mere peasants throwing ourselves at their feet. 😎

Wow, I'm sorry, but what on earth did you expect? What on earth is a "courtesy interview?" I find the fact that you believe such a thing would exist mind-boggling. Sounds like he thoughts your question was royally stupid and gave you an answer in kind. I would've done the same, and probably laughed at you, to be brutally honest.

If they granted a "courtesy interview" to everyone whose application they made a mistake on or didn't review quite thoroughly enough, they'd be handing them out left and right. Do you even know how many applications they get? What makes you think you're so special or even on their radar? Yes, you are at their mercy. Deal with it.

Some people have such a grand sense of entitlement... Yeesh.

3800 applicants x $75 = $285,000

thats a LOT of money. for that amount I would probably go through all apps without sleeping......

damn dude, thats kind of harsh. as far as i remember you had a thread about not getting interviews, maybe its your attitude...

now granted I fight with cedar all the time, but even I think that situation is messed up.

I sure did have a thread about not getting interviews, but mine was concerning whether there was anything particularly wrong with my application or my competitiveness. I already know that I'm complete and under review at all the schools. I was simply looking for second opinions on what may be placing me at the wayside for interviews. I'm worried about MY pitfalls, not the school's.

Cedar, on the other hand, expects to be granted his ultimate desire simply based on the fact that the school made a mistake in the processing of his application. Those are unrealistic expectations for common circumstances. It's childish to think that just because the school made a mistake, you're suddenly going to get what you want. Fortunately or unfortunately, the school owes him NOTHING. At the very most, a courteous apology. But certainly not an interview without a thorough review of his file. What if he's not competitive? What if the school wouldn't grant him an interview even if he was the first applicant reviewed? I'm not saying this is the case, but it's absolutely ludicrous to think that an applicant would be let through to the next filter just because someone forgot to tick a box on a form or some such.

How is that at all mind-boggling? I'm not complaining about the fact that I didn't get an interview, or even that my application was delayed because my check got lost or was put aside for whatever reason, which isn't what happened. However, they CASHED my check, and did nothing with my application. I feel like that is what ticks me off the most. They pretty much just took my money, turned around and walked away.

I had my name and AADSAS # on the check, and it was even signed for by the school. I'd think it would be common COURTESY to at least mark that down on my file, if not courtesy a requirement/protocol to do that. Otherwise, what's the point of even calling it an application fee? Why not call it, send us money, and we'll think about looking at your application.

Same thing happened with me. They cashed my check in July. 🙁 Really sucks.

get off your high horse, if it was you, you would be complaining too. please stop pretending like you dont have emotions and would not be pissed.

I'm afraid I have little to say except "tough luck." Let's not assume you've got the market cornered on having your hard-earned money wasted. I've applied to schools that on their website state that Canadians such as myself are welcome to apply, but the ADEA statistics state that in the past several years these schools have admitted zero Canadian applicants. It certainly has nothing to do with a lack of qualified students, more with a hidden preference or policy within the admissions process that negates our ability to gain entry. So I've been "fleeced" just as you have. But at least you have a chance. Chalk it up to bad luck. Dental schools are not retail establishments who are selling you something; they have no obligation to ensure that you're satisfied, and sure as hell have no obligation to give you a freebie, especially in the instance of an interview. I'm afraid you've got to just accept the hand you've been dealt. Demanding anything else is unreasonable.

I think you've mistaken my "pretending" for "being realistic." Of course I'd be pissed, but I wouldn't go so far as to call the school and demand an interview because *I* specifically was wronged. How does that not sound ludicrous in your head? I would be just as angry as anyone else, but I have the good sense not to make unreasonable demands.

I'm not sitting on any ivory tower. I haven't been granted an interview either. Chill.

I can't believe you actually asked that LOL. I give you props for having the balls to ask. I would've been equally upset if they took my money and never bothered with my application, but I don't think I would of come out and said anything. Good for you, never hurts to ask lol. I hope you didn't sound like a douche though, they might mark that down on your application! :X

But i dont think there is anything wrong with asking. I've learned a long time ago that sitting quiet in any situation is usually the worst move, the worst thing that happened to Cedar is the same thing that happened anyway (no interview at this time,) i doubt they "logged" his request somewhere in his file. What if they actually said yes, he interviewed in a week or two, and got the acceptance. Still a bad move? lol

I don't think its wrong to try, its just like the job market, jobs are often given to preferred applicants who either know the internal recruiter, their future boss or somewhere else in the company. That's really how the world works. Ps if you feel unworthy of asking an institution for anything, what makes you feel so certain that you belong there?

Thanks for not accusing me of anything in this post.

As for whether there's any harm in asking, I simply think that literally asking for an interview out of charity for your situation is an AWFUL idea. Asking for, perhaps, a faster or higher priority review of your file is a more realistic request that's far more likely to be approved. That's something that whoever you're talking to on the phone (a receptionist, not necessarily an actual admission's officer) might actually be able to facilitate. Asking for an interview outright, unfortunately, shows desperation, immaturity and a lack of tact and integrity. Not exactly the spitting image of a good dentist, or dental student, for that matter.

... in my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt. I feel for CedarZ4, but I honestly, truly think that he/she acted brashly here.

well now i think you're blowing it out of proportion. you're saying all these things because you personally would not the have guts to ask for a priority interview. Cedar should have probably rephrased it, but sometimes in life you simply need guts. Those who open their mouth get a lot more out of this world than the quiet types. I dont think it shows immaturity or desperation, it shows you are committed and badly want to interview at their school.

And again, even if it comes off desperate who cares? As long as it gets the job done then thats fine. Imagine if he got the interview and got in. What would you say then? Revoke his acceptance because he is desperate lol we are all desperate and we would all go to any fine d-school to pursue our dreams. Just because you wouldnt ask, dont put the guy down. Everyone has their own level of risk tolerance. Then again the school could have also said we apologize and we will try to remedy this as best as we can (and then move up his file for review for the following week.) Again it really boils down to having the guts to ask. He didnt do anything wrong, he just had some bad luck.

You can't boil everything down to do you "speak up" or "bend over and take it." I feel like you didn't quite understand what I was trying to say, or you did but decided to oversimplify it anyways.

I suppose if everyone felt the way you did, we'd all be looking for reasons to ask for things from schools, just out of courtesy. It's worth the risk, right?

We'll just have to agree to disagree. But you can get the last word in, if you'd like. I've run out of things to say, personally.

If something like that would happen to me, I would ask. Case closed. No guts, no glory. I don't want to regret being quiet for the rest of my life. remember Pride comes before the fallen.

PS I wouldn't call schools and randomly ask for interviews, that would be just weird. 🙂

3rd, no point of arguing with a guy on the internet. So peace.

SDN made me log in to access the website, but said my information wrong. 😕 Guess it was down or something. So I haven't been keeping up.

It's good to know that we can agree on something, MrAvicii. See, this WILL make a good dramatic romantic novel/movie (for those who read our earlier threads). Anyway, not the point.

CleanUp: I don't think asking for an interview is a "ballsy" or "bad" move at all. I didn't call them and say, you're wrong and "demanded" an interview, as you pointed out. I explained to them in a professional manner the situation without blaming them for anything, but in the end, did ask the question, in quotes, if I could be "granted a courtesy interview."
Worst they can say is "No" as MrAvicii said. And frankly, if they don't care enough to mark down on my application that they cashed my check, as they did with AlwaysSmiles too, then I really don't think they'll mark down "demanded an interview" in my file.
Also, if you weren't from Canada, I'd think you were the person who I spoke to with on the phone. Rude, and carless. Didn't even bother to give me a "courtesy apology". Apologizing for something that you did wrong is just good manners... and it doesn't hurt anyone.

Also, this isn't out of charity. I didn't call them and say, "Listen, I suck so can you please please give me an interview". They obviously delayed my application by a long (4 months), and that is a big deal because time is essential in landing PreDec1 interviews.

Also,
Asking for an interview outright, unfortunately, shows desperation, immaturity and a lack of tact and integrity. Not exactly the spitting image of a good dentist, or dental student, for that matter.
Not true at all. Shows I am on top of my things, and I take action and make my own decision without just being a bystander and doing nothing, which is NOT a trait a dentist should have as a health profession provider. "Hey, so do you want a crown? I don't actually know how I feel about it, but I'll do it if you want." If anything, you blowing this thing out of proportion like you are actually shows your own immaturity, not mine.
And frankly, I honestly think you are so upset over this whole situation is because you applied to NYU and didn't get an interview, and you'd be royally pissed too if someone else got one (like me) because that just reduces your chances. If you have an NYU interview, you probably wouldn't be so against me "begging for a charity interview." Stop being so cut throat, and have respect for others. Otherwise, why are you even trying to be a dentist?

Terrible analogy. Just because they haven't accepted Canadian students in the past years doesn't mean they won't, and most importantly, doesn't mean they won't look at your application (because otherwise, how will they know you are Canadian?). So, you still do have a chance because you are being looked at. The point in my problem is, my application wasn't even looked at, it's not like they looked at it, said stats were too low, sent me an e-mail of rejection, then I called for an interview.

 probably true! jooaky was like that too when i asked him how his Buffalo interview went, he gave me the silent treatment because he refuses to give his "competition" (aka me) any advantage. I know these kind of people and I hope to be as far away from them as possible (both in life and in d-school.)

his quote is paramount to saying "i have no shot, so i dont care if you have no shot either lol life is not fair get over it hahah" thats probably how a mature candidate handles himself 🙂

Same here. My check was cashed in July and I got an email saying I haven't paid the fee yet.

Why is it ALWAYS that schools will never fail to cash your check but will fail to record the payment?

listen homey, stop begging! thats just tooooooooo bad hahahahahha

(obv a joke)

PS please dont call the school, you will hurt my chances of getting an interview.

 probably true! jooaky was like that too when i asked him how his Buffalo interview went, he gave me the silent treatment because he refuses to give his "competition" (aka me) any advantage. I know these kind of people and I hope to be as far away from them as possible (both in life and in d-school.)

Asking about how my opinion on what I like/dislike about the school...

My intention was for you to attend your interview without any preemptive bias about the school but you don't seem to understand that. Instead you choose to write me off as a "super competitive gunner" because you didn't get to have things your way.

Do you really think that I need to be worried about eliminating you as my competition?

Seriously, you are rash and lack self restraint. You jump on everything like a kid on a sugar high. Take a real hard look at your first post and why you started this thread.

listen homey, stop begging! thats just tooooooooo bad hahahahahha

Actually I called them to ask for an expedited review. The person said that will be done as requested but sounded a bit annoyed. I'm now convinced it's because I must have called just after CedarZ lol.

Let's just keep this dental forum better than the med forum, pleasee?

lmao this thread is hilarious. I never knew the dental forums could ever get as exciting as the med forums haha.

Bummer, I should have asked for expedited review rather than courtesy interview.

However, to be perfectly honest... given their disorganization and how much the admissions counselors hate their jobs (from the tone of their voice...), they probably just told you your application is under "expedited review" but in reality, it's just in the pile with all the October applicants.
