Hey guys, first post here.

I will be sending in my application to about 25 dental schools in the first week of June.

There are several reasons why I feel obligated to apply to so many schools, one of which is the timing of the DAT. My Kaplan course ends on 6/15, so I'll plan on taking the DAT ten days after the course ends. When I send in my application, I won't know exactly how good or bad my test scores will be.

These are other tidbits going on my app:

Undergrad: University of Washington
Degrees: B.S. in Biology, B.A. in Medical Anthropology & Global Health
GPA: 2.99 (non-adsaas)
EC: a good list
Other: I'm currently retaking BCP classes at another four-year college to boost my grades. Current GPA is 3.87 so far at new school.

I feel like I will be overlooked because of my GPA despite have strong extracurriculars. I have no idea what my DAT scores will look like (as I mentioned above), so I'm tempted to apply to more schools out of uncertainty, just to be safe.

Aside from the cost of applying to so many schools, is there a disadvantage to applying to so many schools? And more importantly, will schools know how many I've applied to and where?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Disadvantage: More money, and more essays (for those that have secondaries)

Schools will not know how many you applied to (although some might ask you during the interview - you can lie, I guess...?) but if I'm not mistaken, by April (of next year) if you have more than one deposit down, they will be able to see through AADSAS, but I guess at that point it doesn't even matter anymore.

i don't understand OP's concern. with a 40% national acceptance rate, do some people think a school (any school) will be offended to hear they aren't the sole denizen of an applicant's list? especially when you aren't an SDN paper rockstar?

if asked in an interview how many schools you've applied to you can handle it one of two ways (if it makes you feel better):

1) the truth (whatever number that happens to be)

2) "enough i felt necessary to grant me successful admission"

can someone explain to me why an adcom would even care about this?

how about you tell them the real number of schools you applied to, but tell them that they are number 1 on your list 🙂 and that you applied to so many schools because you want Dschool so bad and i can't wait for another cycle to apply.
