You still don't tell an American citizen to go back to her "origins". Not if you're the president of the United States, who swore to uphold the Constitution, which, by the way, says that every person born in the United States is a citizen, as per the Fourteenth Amendment, adopted 150+ years ago.

A congressperson is worth electorally less than 1/500 of the president. It's like comparing the mouse with the elephant. Noblesse oblige.

Also, one doesn't put a peasant on a throne worthy of a king, unless one is as dumb as the Philippines or some other "****hole country" (my apologies to the smart Filipinos).

Whatever happens in 2020, I would be surprised if there still is a politically significant Grand Deplorable Party in 10-20 years. I know I won't be sending their people to Congress for a very long time, and my guess is many independents feel the same way.

So Independents will suddenly change their mind and vote for Democrats so we get:

Open borders

Amnesty and citizenship for illegal aliens

Socialized healthcare

Raising taxes

Subservience to China

Intersectional hierarchies

Institutional racism

Trade imbalances

Economic stagnation

Dystopian anti-free speech

Antifa brownshirts

Yeah, right...

The Nazi party was socialist. Government health care, nationalized industry, public work program, and no free speech. That's what the "z" is in german. It was the German Worker's Party prior, hardly a right of center movement.

Good points.
But the people at the top need to pay their taxes in capital gains. As in no breaks for capital gains.
As someone who saves a lot and invests regularly, I tend to disagree. My personal opinion is that capital gains tax almost feels like a penalty for saving your money, but that’s just my opinion.

Capital gains doesn't apply to stuff like 401k, HSA, IRAs and so on. So no, not really a penalty for saving.

But it does apply to savings, money market, general stock purchases, home sales with gains of more than 250k. I mean my bad if I live somewhere where everyone in the world wants to own a piece of real estate. Being anti-capital gains is a hill I’ll die on.

I’m not even Republican and I think the estate tax is some BS and I doubt I’ll ever be effected by the estate tax. I just think it’s one of the most unfair thing our govt taxes. Seriously? Take half my money just because my parents were rich and decided to leave it to me? S****t (Clay Davis voice)

Then prepare to die on that hill because this is low hanging fruit for the next time the Democrats are in power.

Snark aside, explain to me why income on investments should be treated differently than income by any other means.

As for estate tax, it's currently set at right around 12 million. And there are ways around it if you want, just set up an irrevocable trust. Besides that, why shouldn't it be taxed? Did Paris Hilton really earn her fortune to begin with?

Here's the thing: I don't much like either of them either. But both are preferable to increasing pretty much any other kind of tax we currently have. And we all know taxes are going to go up the next time the Democrats are in power.

And we all know taxes are going to go up the next time the Democrats are in power.

They already have promised increasing business tax (say goodbye to your stock market gains).

They already promised to increase capital gain taxes (say double goodbye to your stock market gains).

They already promised to increase income tax rates (say goodbye to being rewarded for taking on extra work).

They already promised to abolish private health insurance (say goodbye to good market rates, say goodbye to having resources to invest, say goodbye to paying your mortgage off early).

They already promised to provide reparations for something you didn't do (say goodbye to more money from whatever is left over from all the other taxes).

They already promised free healthcare to illegal immigrants to be paid for by taxpayers (say goodbye to that vacation you wanted this year).

They already promised citizenship to illegal immigrants (say goodbye to the power of your vote, diluted by the many people who migrated here for welfare. Say goodbye to being able to vote in people who won't sell you out for votes.)

They already promised free college and debt forgiveness (say goodbye to your money to pay for those people and for the money you already spent to pay off your previous debt).

It's amazing, the reasons why Trump won are outlined above, and amazingly the Democrats are doubling down on their terrible intersectional platform.

Common sense....

with the post above, we come back to the original topic beautifully. The End :)

It is going to be a very weird debate next year. The democratic candidates by large are going in hard on a number of fantasy policies where accomplishing even one of them would be a major reach in a one if not two term presidency. They are definitely pandering to a very vocal, but likely smaller base than expected. What they may also be banking on, which makes it all the more interesting, is that because of the way Trump debates and how weak his actual knowledge base is, none of this may ever be substantially challenged in terms of whether its actually possible.

The question is whether they will be able to flop back to the center after they flipped so much to the left. I am afraid people won't believe them. Also, some of the intelectually lazy will argue that Trump is a known quantity etc., as if he doesn't get worse every single year. In 2024, he may not even want to give up power. He's the greatest threat to American democracy since FDR.

Nah, in 2024 he'll give it up. 2020 might be more debatable, especially if its a close election given all his calls about election fraud.

Hillary's campaign paid off a foreign government intelligence agent to write a report that would be shoveled off to the FBI, and despite having no substantiation but lies of omission, was used as the basis for FISA warrants to wiretap Trump associates, under the premise that foreign governments were trying to infiltrate the Trump campaign, but the foreign agents were actually used by the FBI to gather intelligence on Trump's campaign, and the whole investigation was overseen by a select group of FBI leadership instead of career counterintelligence agents as would be the norm, and the supposed threat was never revealed to the Trump campaign even though that is standard practice, and the leadership group was comprised of lovers who texted about how much they hated Trump and were planning on an insurance policy in case Trump actually won to derail his presidency, and these FBI agents were actually terminated for breaches of ethics including leaking sensitive info to the press, and these agents were also planning on not prosecuting Hillary months before the conclusion of the investigation, which centered around an email server she used to avoid scrutiny and subpoena, and to hide communication she had regarding the millions she and her husband received from foreign governments and big banks for worthless speeches which could easily be seen as accepting bribes from foreign governments, a server which Hillary's associates destroyed with hammers and bleach.

That may be the longest single sentence ever written on SDN. Maybe you are channeling Marcel Proust and James Joyce?

What’s going to hurt Joe is the angry wave of 2019 feminists. It’s where I highly agree with @FFP when he says that currently it’s hard to be an old white male in politics, especially if you’re a Democrat. That’s why if he wins the nomination he better damn near beg Warren or Harris to be his running mate and if he’s any bit aware of the current climate, he’s begging Harris first.

Very good (and moderate) article, along the same lines we have been talking here.

This is really good, too (and I dislike Fox is an understatement):

I believe they're sincere about what they're saying now. I have no reason not to believe them.

I'm afraid people will believe them when the nominee is pretending to be something else a year from now.

Let's not get carried away. He can't even get an inconsequential question added to a survey.

Inconsequential only if you believe electoral votes, number of representatives in the House etc. should be apportioned based on the number of (legal + illegal) residents, not citizens. Otherwise it would be VERY consequential (I am looking at you, California).

No other country I know of allocates resources based on the number of illegal aliens etc.

I'm just arguing that it's a simple thing to do - or it would be, for an organization that was competent enough to read and understand the process for adding a question to the census, and actually follow it. The initial challenge to adding the question was based on their failure to simply follow the law. The fact that this administration couldn't get it done speaks to dysfunction and incompetence.

This is not a group of people that could conspire to create and execute a plan to, say, fake a Mars landing or get a president a 3rd term.

The challenge was political, not bureucratic, AFAIK. They simply did not want to disclose why they did it, and the courts argued that the people have the right to know.

You can't make this up:

Stuff like this in Canada creates votes for Trump in the US. And this, if true:

Trump criticizes the deplorable conditions of inner-city Baltimore. Democrats call him racist.

As someone who has lived in some pretty bad inner-city conditions, ie rats in my flat, I applaud Trump for calling out the leaders of these dumps.

As someone who also had a chance to move out of those conditions, I roll my eyes and laugh at the Democrats who say it's not that bad to live with rats everywhere.

Meanwhile in Los Angeles, the bubonic plague and typhus are increasing in prevalence.

Why didn’t he call out the rat-infested areas of Appalachia or the Rust Belt with dilapidated buildings and people laying about with heroin needles in their arms? Just wondering?

Trump is a very smart politician and knows exactly what he is doing and who he is talking to when he makes tweets.

Trump calls it out because it resonates: everyone knows places like LA, SF, and Baltimore are all sh*tholes. He points out those places are run by Democrats, but because of TDS, the left automatically counters with "Baltimore is a beautiful and safe city. And you're a racist for criticizing our poorly run cities."

Trump is forcing an even greater disconnect between Democrats and reality, and the Democrats are falling for it.

By the way, Trump constantly brings up Appalachia's problems, and he attributes them with opioid epidemic, failed trade policy with China and loss of manufacturing jobs, and Democrat politicians who care more about transgender bathrooms than getting jobs for hard hit areas.

He's street smart, while the Dems and the media are about as sharp as a bowl of jello. He's like the man who throws a pebble towards dogs, and they all start barking for 10 minutes.

Of course he's racist. The whole world knows that by now, except those who have their heads in the (or maybe full of) sand. He was discriminating against blacks in his buildings 40+ years ago, when he still had the soul and naivete of a younger man. Etc. Etc. Etc.

But did all the noisemakers stop talking about the Mueller report and impeaching the most disgraceful American president in memory? They did. There.

I am quite street dumb, and if I can see what he's doing, the idiots wearing the blue jerseys should, too. He's been playing this game for years. Even a dog would have learned by now to ignore (or bite) him.

I don't think Trump is racist.

I think people who are attacking him are racist: projecting their own feelings ("of course Trump is referring to blacks as rats, that's what I would think of them"), and supporting judging people based on their skin color ("white people should have a harder time getting into medical school because their white skin gives them too much privilege").

The Left has a perverted view on race because of intersectional politics and their desire for power. A view which is completely contrary to the views of civil rights stalwarts like Martin Luther King Jr.

Since many of his voters are as bigoted as he is, of course they would never call him a racist. :)

That's the problem with extremists, of any type (political/religious/sexual/racial etc.): they just don't realize they are part of a brainwashed cult, and that they don't think for themselves anymore (many of them never did). AKA social pressure. Most people tend to surround themselves with people who think similarly; it's just more comfortable intellectually (if I may even use the word in this context).

Trump AND many Democrats are both racist.
Trump is racist against non-white people = BAD!
Democrats are racist against white people = GOOD!
(According to SJWs anyway)

Today will be the start of the declassification that will highlight how both republicans and democrats along with our intelligence community as well as the intelligence communities of other nations implemented a plan to spy on and impeach a fairly elected president of the United States.

This is true. Try saying (even in pretense) in the company of other "highly-educated" professionals that you voted for Trump. Watch the reaction.

That's ballsy. I would never put a Trump bumper sticker on my car, it just gives lunatics a reason to damage it.

After seeing the highlights of yesterdays Dem debate I hope today is just as good, you couldn't write anything better than these people

General Anti-Trump sentiment is high in my town. His supporters usually keep their thoughts quiet. Not a lot of MAGA hats walking down the street.

Weird. I live in the NE and by far the most vocal people about politics are Trump supporters. It’s not even close. On a recent trip on I-95 in the NE, the number of Trump bumper stickers made me think that Trump is going to win the next election in a landslide...like he might flip states like Massachusetts.

Most supporters in my area are pretty quiet too. They literally only whisper about it! Its just too risky. That being said most of the docs in my area either put their heads in the sand or are open ardent socialists. even the patients I see are starting to get in on the action which is annoying and sometimes borderline inappropriate.

After watching the equally horrifying democratic debates, I am not really sure we have much of a choice. It seems the consensus is to kill private insurance and probably also PP or anything that isn't part of a large highly centralized system that the govt can control. The only question they really seem to be debating is how fast or slow this should occur.

The sound bites were equally ridiculous. "I wrote the damn bill" please politicians write uninformed pieces of legislation all the time with a healthy helping of input from their biased policy wonks and other assorted sycophants. Liz warren crowing about not being afraid to push through the most radical agenda since the New Deal. No Liz, people like me are afraid of you not being afraid. Moderates essentially getting booed...pretty disappointing and disturbing. Criticize the fact that they are essentially turning the state into the biggest free candy store since the 2009 Bank Bailouts only difference is this will come with a lifetime guarantee.

People may just pull for trump again this year but I never underestimate the power of the underdog and the never ending appeal of FREE STUFF paid for by the people you dont like....Doctors included.

Are you sure it’s not just some persecution complex? Nothing bands people together more than feeling like they are being persecuted. I’m asking for real because doctors and professionals I talk to speak of Trump like he is some kind of god.

Certainly this wasn't near the major metros like Springfield or Boston was it? NE states like this are typically in the bag for dems regardless of who they nominate. I heard this about NJ during Romney running against Obama that Repubs were gonna turn the state purple...never but happened.
