I think that BLM came to exist due to a lie that blacks are being systematically murdered by police. It’s a lie perpetuated by myths such as “Hands up, Don’t Shoot” from people like Shaun King as well as those like him who would post headlines from studies without actually reading the studies themselves. Those who actually read the studies, understand that crime rates within a community (not race) are the strongest predictors of fatal interactions with police; whites living in high crime areas also suffer more fatal interactions.

The data on police shootings no more justifies the abhorrent actions of BLM than the disproportionate murder of whites by blacks would justify white supremacy ideology. The use of violence to stoke racial division within our society is evil no matter what.

Do you think BLM came to exist in a vacuum?

What has prompted the violence against jews, concert goers, school children etc?

How is perpetuating a broken system a better alternative? Remember, dems didn't torpedo immigration reform in 2013 and many red states benefit from illegal labor

For all the bluster that illegal immigration engenders from the right, talk of the wall etc., nothing is ever discussed about criminalizing the employers of these illegals. After all, you've got illegal labor even being used on some Trump properties after all

Again, this isn't about "red" or "blue" for me. I have a harder line on immigration than the corporatist wing of the GOP - E-Verify is an absolute must for real "immigration reform" (which should also include a physical barrier and removal of all of those who are here illegally).

What's the point? Everify is the epitome of window dressing the problem as is the wall.

Go after the employers. Which the GOP will never do. It does make a good red meat issue to drive voter turnout though, along with abortion. Why solve the problem and lose all that?

I agree that the Republican Party, as it currently stands, is not poised to embrace truly populist solutions. It's unfortunate. More pressure is required.

But E-Verify is not "window dressing." Alone and poorly-enforced, it's an insufficient solution, but if it were coupled with a physical barrier fortified with armed enforcement, as well as serious deportation of all illegal aliens and a fresh immigration reboot, the results would be phenomenal.

Why not all the above?

Are YOU ok with the fact that deficit under Trump is now 1 Trillion per year?

No, I am not. Trump said he would not increase national debt, which has been a lie. Trump will have added roughly $5 Trillion by the end of his first term.

Here's a video of my favorite lying president saying something similar. Obama added $8.5 Trillion to national debt. When he pledged to CUT IT IN HALF.

Deficit went down during Obama's second term. And don't be intellectually dishonest about the economy and deficits Bush handed Obama vs what Obama handed Trump.

All the Trump/MAGA gaslighting notwithstanding, Trump walked into a very solid Obama economy, unlike the dumpster fire gwb handed Obama, not to mention the ridiculous doubling of the debt and sky high deficits

Wait. Stop the presses. Politicians are lying?!?!?!?! Alert The Post!

They are all scumbags, Trump included. He’s just less good at hiding it because he has the frontal lobe filter of a 7-year child.

Some of the liberal dems are less corrupt than Trump.... the problem is their policies would destroy the nation.

Why can’t we have a moderate republican (or dem) that is actually not corrupt? Is it a pre-requisite to go into politics?

More or less. Think of all the decent people you know - would they rather go into politics or live normal, generally family-oriented lives in the community?

McCain would have won if gwb hadn't done Iraq, doubled the national debt and lead us into the great recession.

As much as the right lambasted Obama, history shows he was centrist. And a damn good one. He would have easily beat lyin Don for a third term

Why, because Emma Lazarus's poem was what the Founders really meant when they wrote the Declaration of Independence.

Sure. But read higher than the famous "given me your tired..." and you see "A mighty woman w/ a torch, whose flame is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles". The vast majority of those flooding the southern border are not being 'exiled'. They are not claiming asylum. Pretty sure they just want free $hit and to live in a better country. We can not let everyone in to the US just because they'd rather live in the USA than the country of their birth...

Was there SS, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, free healthcare, etc at the time of this poem?

Welfare Use by Immigrant and Native Households

Center for Immigration Studies - Not including subsidized school lunch, 46% of immigrants (illegal and legal) use government subsidies, compared to 28% of natives. That is double natives. Households headed by immigrants from Central America and Mexico (73 percent). That is triple natives. Our country cannot afford these immigrants. It is really, that simple.

The wall will realistically cost tens of billions and the liar in chief has created trillion dollars deficits as far as the eye can see.

Not to mention walls don't against tunnels

Throw the employers in jail and you'll solve plenty of problems without demonizing immigrants or wasting money we don't have.

Of course, the employers might not like it

%. What about actual amounts?

Like this:

So you're saying that the 75% of immigrants from southern countries currently on welfare are financially helping our country?
They're helping you probably build your house, pick your tomatoes, milk your cows. And probably helping keep up Trump's resorts and golf courses.

Immigration is a tough issue, but the GOP has had plenty of time to address this. Just like healthcare went from repeal and replace to choke and forget about it.

The GOP either needs to **** or get off the pot regarding immigration reform. And sorry but the wall ain't reform.
Gang of 8 in 2013 was as close as we got and Republicans killed that

Agree with all of the above. Additionally:

A. It's not a human right to live in the US.

B. The global warming problem being what it is, taking on board tens of millions of people to lead "American" lifestyles is going to be an unmitigated disaster.

1. A wall that costs 30 billion dollars is still worth it. For security and the prevention of the influx of millions of more illegal aliens.

2. What are the cartels building, the Holland Tunnel 2.0? Come on. Barriers are very effective - ask Israel, Hungary, China, etc. And there's no way I'll accept with a straight the idea that our government doesn't have the capability to detect or learn about tunnels. Again, let's turn to allies who have dealt with these issues before.

3. Like you, I don't care what the employers think.

Well that’s not right. Most of those people “flooding the border looking for free $hit” work a heck of a lot harder and risk a whole lot more than you. That’s not to say we should have open borders or we shouldn’t reform our immigration policy, but characterizing the people “flooding the border” as freeloaders looking for free $hit is just dumb and wrong. You think they are sitting in their homes and watching Bernie Sanders on TV saying “honey, free $hit in America, let’s go!” They are escaping the aftermath of a failed “war on drugs” and bad U.S. foreign policy. Were the German and Irish immigrants flooding New York Harbor in the early 20th century considered hard workers because they are white?

Yeah, MS-13 members from Central America work harder to decapitate Americans than Americans do, I'll give you that.

Agree to disagree. I don't know how you would be able to prove one way or another. But the facts are, WHEN they get here, they are taking free $hit.

edit: my grammar sucks

They're not fleeing; they're running toward a country they know gives state-of-the-art medical care, education, welfare, and first-world infrastructure. If the US had been isolationist (as we should have), they'd still be jumping the border.

Arguments that bring up early-20th-century immigration for support are universally facile. Not only was there a far greater need for unskilled labor/trade back then, there was also no welfare state like we have today (and to which I'm not opposed - if reserved for citizens). No EBT card to swipe at the supermarket or check in the mail. One either worked one's rear off or one begged on the street.

You read too much propaganda on breitbart. Meanwhile in the real world, illegals are working on farms, at meat plants etc. Esp in red states

Clinton reformed welfare big-time. The problem is we have "citizens" that get on SSDI or welfare and won't do the jobs that end up falling to illegals.

It'd be great if hardcore right wing anti immigrant folk could stop depending on the fruits of illegal labor. Would certainly be a lot less hypocritical

If the labor pool were tighter, they would do those jobs because they'd pay more. Regardless, I'm not here to defend people who hire illegal aliens. I'm arguing against them, as well.

The problem is they are the source of these jobs yet they are never punished. Everify violations are barely enforced in red states.

Did ice ever arrest even a single employer ever?

Again, I'm not "Team Red." I'm Team Americans-First. It seems that we are in agreement that E-Verify must be enforced universally. Is this correct?

Sure. Along with appropriate immigration reform, including an appropriate guest worker program and possible path to citizenship for those that work or are productive in our society.

Canada does this much better than we do, honestly

Not only was there a far greater need for unskilled labor/trade back then,

Ha, we can argue about "skilled" vs "unskilled," but the gist of your point vis a vis immigration doesn't fly for literally every single person in my neighborhood who needed/needs construction, sheetrock, painting, flooring, landscaping, mowing, movers, exterminating, babysitting, eldercare, taxis/rideshare, or food that is grown or slaughtered.

Maybe you're unique, but the average person who perseverates endlessly about the unjustness of illegals and who only has draconian "solutions" like mass deportation likely benefits off their labor either directly or within a few degrees of separation to the tune of thousands of dollars. The real unjustness is that the employers of illegals and the consumers of illegal services are largely ignored.

I support a comprehensive immigration package where we enforce our borders with increased personnel, drones, and other advanced technology, in conjunction with a guest worker program, continuing DACA, and also some path to legal status (not citizenship) for people who have been here for a gazillion years, held a job, paid taxes, and no criminal record.

Paths to "legal status" are tributaries to the path to citizenship, and we all know that. This is the nature of left-wing politics; there is always the next rock to pull over, the next societal upheaval to orchestrate.

No paths to legalization. They should all be deported and wait in line as we allow in a number commensurate to our projected needs.

So ICE probably deports about 50-100 people a month on avg. Occasionally they have "big" months like recently in Mississippi where they detained 680 people at a meat plant (and the bozos in charge forgot to come up with a plan about what to do with all the stranded children at school).

There are approximately 10-11 million illegal immigrants in the US. What's your plan for 1. The mandatory draft required to create the necessary number of ICE agents 2. The construction of the dozens if not hundreds of camps required to hold these immigrants while they're processed, 3. The thousands of judges required to adjudicate the deportations 4. The transportation infrastructure required to move them around the country and then get them out of the country, 5. The stimulus package required to make up for the billions of economic output lost

The comprehensive plan is a worker ID and ending birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. When they can’t find work they’ll make their way to some other country on their own, no ICE, buses, or government expense required.

Consider this just on numbers and percentage. In short, he (Trump) won by the thinnest of margins in three critical states, MI, PA and WI, by just over 75,000 votes for the three states combined. He is currently not polling very well in these 3 concerned states in head to head matchups with the top three D candidates—I thinks it’s a long shot he pull off the same hat trick. Any of these states pull the election in Ds favor.

Two, while Texas is not blue it is certainly shading purple, as exhibited by recent hill races. Arizona, has a distinct possibility of turning blue.

Finally, Trumps strategy is not to increase the tent, but rather further solidify his base which already in the low 90s—so it dictates numbers closer 95-96 percent. One must remember that the country’s demographics are quickly turning younger and much larger populations of color, thus, as we speak, Trumps base is shrinking.

I wouldn’t be surprised we see a Romney like defeat and he loses the popular vote by 5 million.

As noted above, enforcement of the law when it comes to employers would do an enormous amount of good. Couple that with some examples set via 30-year jail sentences for a relative few offenders, and you'll find that repatriation (or, as some have put it, self-deportation) becomes a reality.

Bear in mind also that this mess has been decades in the making, and the solution would take decades, as well. This problem cannot be solved overnight.

Democrats want to confiscate your self defense weapons.
And Republicans are fine punting on the problem with "thoughts and prayers"

Don't need a rifle with a large mag for self defense or hunting but whoever said the pro gun folks had any logic to their arguments. Not a single dem has discussed banning shotguns or handguns which serve home self defense purposes just fine

Oh word, had no idea immigration hawks wanted to curb the problem over decades through the use of incentivization, employer enforcement and gradual self repatriation. It's probably the escalation of family separation, child detention, ice raids, and the endless tweeting over the last 3 years about mexican rapists and caravan invasions and ms13 and sanctuary cities and mahh preshus wallll that threw me off.

I'm not surprised that you want to confiscate self defense weapons from law abiding citizens, but I am surprised that you would dare say that in the context of someone who just defended themselves with an AR15.

"shotguns or handguns which serve home self defense purposes just fine", said by you, sitting in your secure house in a safe neighborhood.

Lol. You know your side is going to keep losing the argument with stuff like that.

NRA has been losing membership for years and the GOP is on the losing end of the gun argument with voters.

Do you have any solutions to all these Mass shootings that were done with legally purchased rifles? "Thoughts and prayers"?

There are plenty of solutions that don't require infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens.

I think you have your work cut out for yourself trying to reduce handgun homicide since that far outnumbers rifle homicide, but that certainly is contrary to your narrative.

Just imagine what people would think if you started talking about handgun confiscation.

Red herring arguments trying to deflect away from all the recent Mass shootings committed most by those with right wing sympathies, most often with assault rifles. Sad!

I guess you prefer thoughts and prayers on that one

What are Republicans doing about it?

Guess you better let everyone know that parkland, gilroy, Orlando, Charleston, El paso and Vegas all happened with shotguns and handguns
Don't be ridiculous. Its well known (or at least should be) that the vast majority of firearm deaths (homicide and suicide) are committed with handguns. Somewhere between 60-80% of firearm deaths are from handguns. The wide range is because around 30% are "type unknown" in the FBI statistics. Most likely, rifles of all types account for 6-10% of firearm deaths. The only reason anyone cares is because the majority of the high profile cases use rifles.

For the record, I don't care about AR-15s or similar - I don't own anything like that, don't plan to ever do so. But to claim that banning those specific types of weapons will make a big difference is nonsense.

And I don't recall saying Republicans are doing anything about this. The instant partisan assumption and dismissal is a problem.
