Yet another year, and more of us girls shopping for suits.
So, here's my question. Brightly colored suits (not talking camis, I mean the suit itself)... too unprofessional?
ok, i'm a newbie 🙂
i have pretty long hair (between shoulder and...boob?). what is appropriate to do with it? My hair won't stay all the way up.
Do you have a picture? Not sure what it looks like, but in my head, I'm thinking of a pimp in bright purple, so I'd stay away.
Question: Should I wear glasses to look more nerdy? (I don't look very nerdy) What do you guys think?

I think I'm gonna keep it and maybe wear it to some of my not as important interviews (like my state schools) and then get another more conservative one (but not dark - I look bad in dark) for schools like Harvard and JHU (if I get interviews there). 🙂
I don't think there's anything wrong with that suit. See, when you mention "bright color", I was picturing something along the lines of this:

Best of luck with the top schools!
I should wear that to my interviews!!!I should wear that to my interviews!!!
Might make some adcoms laugh 😉. Might make some adcoms laugh 😉.
I need to buy a suit.. ugh.. I'm thinking of splurging a bit/a lot (maybe up to $500) (broke, but it would make me feel like a million bucks and I'm already spending a lot on applications)
I kinda want this, but with black pants instead (skirt too short?):

OK, so question: I tend to like very "fashiony" stuff. Do you guys think that it would be inappropriate for interviews? Maybe only NYC schools?
Yes! The Nordstroms sale should be fantastic this year. If you go onto their website they have some fabulous items going as low as 50% off. Good luck!

I did pony tail in some interviews, down in others. Just depending on how my hair was acting that day and the temperature outside.ok, i'm a newbie 🙂

No offense, but that color is very spring/summery. You might look a little strange in December, January...I think I'm gonna keep it and maybe wear it to some of my not as important interviews (like my state schools) and then get another more conservative one (but not dark - I look bad in dark) for schools like Harvard and JHU (if I get interviews there). 🙂
All the buttons on the 1st one looks weird, the 2nd is fine, I almost bought a suit with a belt but didn;t in the end because it need alterations and I ran out of time.Might make some adcoms laugh 😉.

What else can you wear besides heels that will still look professional? I can't wear heels for 2 reasons:
1. They are uncomfortable. I've never worn heels in my entire life.
2. I have ridiculously small feet, so it's impossible to find heels in my size.
Any suggestion is appreciated.
You can always find some dressy flats if you don't want heels. Just stay away from flip flops and you'll be fine.
Funny thing is...I can't fit in any dressy flats either except the flashy kids flats. The ones with Barbies, unicorns, flowers, etc.
You're feet must be tiny. My roommate wears like a 5 and she can still find adult shoes that fit.
Haha...yeah. I wear a size 3...sometimes I can fit in a 3.5. Those are my proudest moments.
Oh wow. I mean the best I can think of is to look extra hard for nice looking shoes. They've got to exist somewhere. Hopefully.
Thanks for the suggestion though. I was thinking of stuffing the shoes if I really can't find any.
the coat really doesn't matter... no one will see it. unless it's a jean jacket, i'd say don't buy another one.You might be able to find something on the internet?? But I think otherwise stuffing your shoes could work if you get ballet flats/kitten heels. You can actually buy special things to stuff your shoes with and keep them comfortable so you wouldn't have to use toilet paper/Kleenex. What is the smallest size you could find?
I just bought a snazzy new Boss suit 😱😎🙂 (expensive, but fits perfect and feels so good). I look like I belong on Wall St. and I am very happy.
Now I need shoes, a shirt, a bag, and a non-A&F coat...
anyone? What do you guys think of this?

Orange is my FAVORITE color and I would love to wear it during interview season! I know not the exact shirt in the picture bc it seems a bit too low cut...

I have tiny feet too, its so difficult! sometimes you can find kids shoes that are similar style of adults - kenneth cole reaction has some. also there's a specialty shoe store called cinderella of boston that sells adult shoes in sizes 2-5.
good luck!

I think no matter what anyone wears you have to remember you aren't dressing for a fashion show, you're dressing for a bunch of middle age men and women. You want to be fashionable in the sense that your clothes fit well, but you want to make sure you're remembered for what you say, not because you're the kid with the hot pink button down.
What if hot pink looks really good on me? Not saying I'm going to wear one (though it is a good color on me), but I look better in bright, saturated colors and look deathly in 'normal-people' colors. I'm super super pale and the best colors for me are the bright pinks, tropical blue, etc. Muted colors make me look sick. I think if the rest of my suit is conservative and fits well, that it wouldn't make me look ridiculous, but am I mistaken? Will I get laughed at for it if I show up with a bright--though not obnoxious--shirt?
Might make some adcoms laugh 😉.

J Crew! The cashmere shells are great, but if you want something less pricier, try the jackie shell. I have both and wear them frequently.Where are all of you finding good shells to wear under? I bought my suit today (it's a gorgeous Theory suit. Pricey but soooo worth it, plus it doesn't need tailoring except hemming the pants), but couldn't find a thing to go underneath. I tried button-ups, but they really just look weird on me. I want a shell or two to pick from, because I'm thinking a cami would just look weird, but can't find any. Store suggestions?
^ There, I am now officially the only guy to post in this thread.
You can't know that for sure. But I applaud your efforts.
I think that would be fine as long as it is not too tight, and even then you might not want to open your jacket fully just my opinion thoughSo what's the general consensus on camis under suits? Are they ok to wear as long as they're not too low-cut? I'm asking because I'm pretty tiny and petite, and button up shirts always find a way to bunch up and look just plain bad on me. So I found a two nice blouses, but I was just wondering for days I don't want to wear them, if a simple colored cami would look good. Something like this:

I tried it on, and it's not too low cut...no clevage. It looks lower on the manikin.
Definitely no- it is WAY unprofessional looking in my opinion. You do not have to wear a button up, get a knit top. try jcrew, they have great tops for under suits. So what's the general consensus on camis under suits?
