Would being a stripper prevent me from getting into med school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
are you trolling or serious? I think I would want to hide my identity and future endeavors from clients.

100% serious. Not everyone is closed minded. Chances are the doctors who let me shadow them didn't want anyone to know they frequent gay strip clubs either.

ill add some male stripper perspective to this:
i've been a male stripper for the past year, and oddly enough, some of my best networking has been a result of that job. hell, i even gave a lap dance to an adcom member of one of my top choice schools. plus, if you tell customers you are gonna be going to medical school and you mention how expensive it is, they usually tip you more.

This doesn't sound like "networking". It sounds like playing with fire.

If things like "professional poker player" and "professional video game player" carry a stigma, I can only imagine how an admissions committee would view stripping.
I can think of many ways you can make money. Have you considered a part-time job?

@Mad Jack Life damages you; no one gets out alive. I think it's so sad that people who've never had to walk a mile in someone else's shoes (or stilettos) are the first and harshest ones to judge.

Those who weren't born with a silver spoon or Daddy's credit card have to do what they have to do to get where they want to go.

Life is a gamble. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. When I die, my tombstone will say, "She lived."

And there are some women, believe it or not, who actually enjoy exotic dancing. I'm going to guess those are in the minority, or the ones addicted to the money, but there are a few who love being fetishized by voyeuristic men; it makes them feel powerful and in control.

Everyone is damaged. As a Christian, the world tells me I'm incredibly damaged for my beliefs, lol. ;-)

But I also know not to judge anyone else because everyone has a story. And I've found that the most interesting and most beautiful people have led and suffered through the most disturbing lives.

Guys, OP only asked if this job would prevent her from getting into med school or get her kicked out. Not how it would affect her self-esteem, relationships, career, marriage, well-being, etc.

Idk, OP. Don't put it on your app, obviously. Also, don't lie about it if asked if you had a job while in school and what your "responsibilities" were, as some secondaries will ask. They could kick you out for lying on your app.

I'm sure there is no rule that states "no strippers allowed" but they can always expel you for this reason while citing some other ordinance. School admins do whatever they want, and you don't really have the same amount of "rights" you would in a court of law. But you could always take it there.

Hi guys. This is a serious question. Long time lurker on these forums. I have competitive stats, but I need money. I've been offered jobs at bars and strip clubs (not prostitution, literally just dancing and/or selling shots/drinks).

I am hesitant to take any of these offers, because I'm not sure if this can come back to haunt me during med school applications or while in med school.

Would this ever be an issue?

Is there anyone out there who stripped before med school?

There is a woman in my class who was an exotic dancer before medical school; all of her classmates know, and she enjoys great academic success. Notably, she does not mention this to any of her superiors and it was not on her medical school application.

@cantankerous Since we're derailing this thread into feminist diaspora and intersectionality debates, let me put on my gender studies hat:

That is NOT falling for the patriarchal system, that is controlling the patriarchal system by being the object of the man's gaze (like that Laura Mulvey?) and subverting the power structure by controlling one's self to be the mesmerizing object of the viewer.

It's nothing short of most male-female relationships actually.

Except this is a great way to save up for medical school without the drama or bs of patriarchal male-led monogamous relationships.

Smart girl. . .not just b/c of her academic success.

not really. not everyone is as closed-minded as you.

?

Closed-minded would be if I took issue with OP working as a stripper. I don't, at all. I'd just hope she goes about it safely. What you described tiptoes towards blackmail territory. Hence, unsafe.

i think you are confused about the definition of blackmail.
