Hi, I recently came across a job listed as a "direct support professional" at a neurological rehabilitation center. It sounds really interesting, but I'm afraid it will lean too much towards PT as opposed to some other jobs like PCT or MA. I would greatly appreciate insight regarding whether or not this could count as good clinical experience/hours. I've included some bullet points that the job description provided.

"For more than 35 years, we’ve developed programs to meet the diverse needs of clients with moderate to severe traumatic and acquired brain injuries. We provide treatment for post-concussion syndrome, stroke, memory loss, neurobehavioral issues and accident or sports-related head injuries.
  • This position provides minimum to maximum assistance and/or supervision to promote our clients’ success in daily living tasks, recreational activities and vocational pursuits
  • Responsibilities include assisting clients with personal care and hygiene, therapies, and driving and accompanying clients to appointments, activities and other outings
  • Candidates must be comfortable working with a variety of medically complicated and behaviorally challenged clients"

Thank you!

I wonder why the facility calls the people clients and not patients. Seems very clinical to me. Sounds very interesting. Is it a residential facility?

Just different terms for the same thing. Some residential facilities and even hospitals seem to prefer “client” to avoid labeling someone as “sick” ie a “patient.” The terms are used so interchangeably by different places that I think you really have to rely on the specific skills used and the context of where you are delivering care to determine if it’s clinical or not
