Writing sample space

Just a question. How much space do we have to write the essays? My handwriting is illegible unless it's fairly large. Are we allowed to write on the back of the paper with the essay question?

You are given three pages per essay... if you can fill all of them up you should get an automatic T...

I've been putting off a lot of WS's because I always assumed I had to write 2 pages per essay on Hilroy paper (34 lines per page) as opposed to that (24 lines per page).
