For all of those who have take the pcat before (and got their scores back) how did you guys do on the writing section?

I keep reading different posts and it seems like no one got a good score. I got a 2, and I never considered myself to be a bad writer. I'm not amazing but I thought I did better than average. I guess not. I have no idea how I can even improve because I don't know why they thought my essay sucked. How important is the writing sections really? How much do schools look at it?

The reason it's even in there is to see whether or not the flow of your thoughts has structure, logic and reason which are imperative in pharm school. It is pretty important but not decisive.

Some schools don't even look at your PCAT writing score. They give you an essay that they have prepared on your interview date to compensate.

Make sure your essay has:

I. intro - Clearly state the problem and why it must be solved. If you know much about the topic you can insert some additional data here.
II. Body - Consisting of your solutions (two preferably) to the problem and how it will solve it.
III. Counter/arg - Optional, but it helps strengthen your paper greatly. You can possibly say some skeptics may see your solution causing problems or a different solution could be better. Re-elaborate why their views are wrong and that your solution is the right thing to do.
IV. Conclusion - sum up the problem and why your solution(s) will solve it.
