WW: -Omitted Topic-: Game Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, it is now 2 pm, so here is where my stance is on ending today:

EVERYONE ASSUME THAT WE WILL END DAY 1 VOTING AT 10 pm EST TODAY. IF I HAVE RECEIVED NO WORD FROM @johnnaboo or @StartingoverVet by then (or no associated post on the thread), then I reserve the right to POSTPONE another day.

IF ANYONE OBJECTS TO ENDING THE DAY CYCLE TODAY AND WOULD LIKE UNTIL TOMORROW, NOW IS THE TIME TO PM ME.
Sounds good to me, still have to catch up on thread tho. I’ll make sure it’s done before close.

so you are against the tie and against pips? By changing your vote now, only pips gets it, which you seem to be saying you are against but your actions imply otherwise?
The two don't have to be mutually exclusive thought processes. I can be against both. I can also change my vote in the future.

@ziggyandjazzy I may have missed it, but did you follow up on this? Did you look into it and find any useful information?
I initially meant that as the game progressed we might be able to get some information from this (in the coming days). I do think there are interesting things to consider right now though.

"The vote will be to empower one person, through a manner called “reverie” and to hamper someone else, such that they have no role ability for the first 5 turns."
empower: give (someone) the authority or power to do something.
reverie: a state of being pleasantly lost in one's thoughts; a daydream.

So essentially, we have no idea what reverie-ing someone will do. I initially thought it would mean (and I believe several other people have thought about this also) that it would upgrade/improve someone's role by giving them more power. Dolph and Dina (maybe others?) have mentioned voting for Barks because she has done well with power in the past. Pip referred to the reverie as an upgrade and barks referred to it as a responsibility.

However others, including genny and miz, have discussed thinking the rev could be more like a way of obtaining information.

I think it's contextually important to consider if someone was voting for themselves because they want more power, or more knowledge. It will be something I continue thinking about as the game progresses.

I love it when you say my name with zero context 😍

Block Coop while I process everything. This felt like trying not to win the vote for fear of seering
So on the one hand, when I started actually reading today, I had the same initial thought.
However, what if she is a role that doesn't enter the game until later, and the reverie wouldn't be useful for her?
Not saying that, that is the exact case, but in this non-standard mayor vote, I can see other reasons someone would not accept a mayor vote. Thoughts?

Hi guys. Sorry I am late to the game, thanks to those who nudged me on FB. I actually lost power yesterday....which is annoying as we just installed a generator,,...but yeah, when your electric board fries that doesn’t help. Anyway,,,.here I am.

:banana::hello:

Looks like I have a lot to catch up on.

In a normal mayor election, there's a chance we'd elect a wolf.
This is not a normal mayor election. If we reverie a wolf, and then also block a villager. Thats a double whammy.
Originally wasn't going to go for it because I feel like I am overbearing in these games by posting a lot, and going for mayor votes, and wanted to step back and let other people have some fun.
Not saying that, that is the exact case, but in this non-standard mayor vote, I can see other reasons someone would not accept a mayor vote. Thoughts?
Why do you keep calling it a mayor vote?
It is officially Day 1. Official deadline is 10:00 PM EST on 4/10. Vote is for reverie/blocking NOT lynch and NOT mayor (see rules above).

Yeah I could see that too.
So on the one hand, when I started actually reading today, I had the same initial thought.

Why would you do something you think is probably a bad idea?
Did you ever say why you are voting for barks?

Why have so few people said who they are voting for? Is this just a "popularity contest"? Or do people have actual reasons? I think I have yet to see an actual reason people are voting for pips besides her saying she is "selfish" (I am not trying to be mean, these were her words) and I find this a bit distressing as the leading candidate.

I am voting for genny because I think I have a higher chance of reading her, and she is a good villager with respect to knowledge and abilities. Anyone else?

Why does it matter?
to matter: be of importance; have significance.

Do you not see any significance to the moderator saying this was not a mayor election? I have only been in one game that had a mayoral election (and I subbed in so I wasn't involved) so I am generally unsure what a mayor usually means, and how this could be different.

If Mel called the wolves mafia, would that bother you? Or the seer a cop?

But are they? The mod hasn't told us which term to use so it might be crucial to the game...
Are you asking if wolves and mafia are equatable? The game is called WW, which I assume references wolves. And the moderator has referred to wolves. I guess there is a possibility there are wolves and mafia? But that is beyond my capability of understanding. I have only played with wolves.

You may be asking if wolves can become good in this game.

Why do you keep calling it a mayor vote?
because typing out reverie/block vote is annoying and I figured people on here were smart enough to understand from context clues.

Can you please stop posting just to post? I'm still back on page 4 but your "look I'm generating discussion!" without it being meaningful discussion style of posting is really getting under my skin. At best, its distracting village, at worst you're a wolf looking to stay active.

Do you all want me to just ask for a sub? Because I have never felt this ****ty about a game this quickly.

I genuinely get the feeling no one appreciates me actually playing any of these games so I think it would probably be for the best if I just left. For my benefit, and yours.

No one wants you to quit. My point was what were you hoping to glean from Mel's answer? If it was about phrasing alone and not leading you to a wolf then Mel's comment that he preceived you as posting to just post is a valid possibility. It might not be correct, but it is possible. You may not like some of our styles of enquiry but that doesn't mean they don't sometimes work and sometimes not work. We are each quite unique in our play. I find if I'm especially feeling frustrated by someone's play style I try to hold off responding and ask myself what am I trying to glean?

Thats not what any of us are saying. As a general rule of thumb, ask yourself "Is this question actually adding anything to discussion, is this going to lead somewhere productive?"

For example, I called it a mayor vote instead of a reverie/block vote. What are the implications? Does using the phrase "mayor vote" give you any insight into me, my affiliation, or my goals? Does it have any bearing on the game?
The answer is no. Its a term. its potato/spud. There was no reason to waste our time bringing it up.

This I actually liked. You're pushing people explain votes, looking for footholds in people's logic to start evaluating them. Make more posts like this

+1 village!mel
I'm sure you'll remember to be sketchy later 😉

Did you ever say why you are voting for barks?

I mean I voted on the first day this was open. We have zero information about anyone, so my vote was just as arbitrary as anyone else's. I picked barks because of a random feelz from a previous game.

Block mel

Too strong a reaction, and maybe knows something they shouldn’t.

Changed my mind.....it is too late probably to,get any traction..
Unblock Mel.
Reverie barks

If something good can happen, the more the merrier (odds wise anyway)....

Let’s get that b*tchmtied up.

Preface: This is a story of a world. For some people this world is a small town. For others it’s the politics of a whole continent. For other the world is in fact the world. And for still others the world is the galaxy, and intergalactic relationships. There is always more afoot than any one character will understand, even those that are the main characters in this story. You would do well to keep this in mind….

I also want to emphasize, no one in this story is a hero. People can do heroic things, but not a single one of you is a hero. You all lie, steal, kill, and even massacre thousands in order to achieve your goals. So what is the measure of evil? The answer is maybe there is no measure, it’s all based on perspective.
@Navilly... many large scale series (I'm thinking mostly books, but video games sometimes also do it - thinking like Elder Scrolls) will have an index or an introduction/map/etc helping set up the scale and giving a reference for context. This game seems grand in scale and I would personally kinda appreciate a bit of a reference point. Even if it's just a list of names of regions, races, etc. We just got a slice of life introduction with just glancing info on the number of regions and I feel like this is going to be rough going lol.

This must mean you’re a wolf or chaos
my old game logic says they're village actually, and I'm right 100% of the time 50% of the time with that technique!

Ok this is going to be fun and also I'm going to have to control myself so it's not too time consuming 😳

I am not in favor of blocking AM. If she has an ability, having her lose it for several days is probably going to suck for all of us.

I don’t necessarily want her overpowered either.

Reverie genny
I find this comment a little odd. Why would her specifically losing it suck for us?

I'm definitely more of a build you up buttercup type vs. blocking (notoriously something I hate) but I would like further elucidation here.

Novel idea: We block and reverie the same person.
Gives us a couple of days to evaluate (on thread or via abilities) the person we reverie. That way no major damage is done if we inadvertently power up a wolf.
Downside is, it also gives wolves multiple chances to take out the Reverie'd player with out the effects of the Reverie being utilized.
this feels like, super dumb to me. and bordering on just talking for the sake of throwing something out there. there's always a risk to kill a PR in the first vote, or mayor a wolf, or whatever. That doesn't mean you don't do it.

Isn’t the downside kind of a big deal here? What is the point in voting to reverie anyone at all with that logic? If we follow your idea and the person dies it’s basically voting for nothing. It’d make more sense just to convince people to not vote so you don’t power up a wolf accidentally. Don’t like this logic being passed off as a novel idea.

Also don’t we take the same risk anytime there is a mayor role in a game that we’d accidentally power up a wolf? What’s different now?
^ah thank you dolphin lol.

To be honest I think that's an overused reason to suspect people during mayor-type votes. I've turned down nominations many times as a villager for various reasons and have seen others do the same. So to me...NAI.
I think sketchy types often pointedly go out of their way to NOT act like they want or don't want something like this. Unless they're the boisterous type players (thinking DocE, STL, etc...)

Reverie SOV

Has he even checked in yet? Does he need a FB nudge?
Why did you vote to reverie someone who you immediately pointed out hasn't shown up yet?

This seems reasonable, and likely an alright strategy.

Block Jahboi

Unless, of course, there's some sort of kickback for someone who intentionally wants to be blocked. But that's pretty WIFOM-y and I'm not willing to go there yet. Someone volunteering to be blocked is likely better than RNG-ing it or letting a small handful of people control where the block goes while everyone else abstains.
I'm honestly kinda willing to go there. In huge games like this roles get scarce - I've definitely seen people who got kickbacks specifically for being elected mayor or getting lynch day 2 or other specific ****.

Interesting move. The real question is does the LIS rule apply in this situation?

I'll run with it for now because I agree with the statement (that someone will get blocked regardless and better to know who and how, less so info gathering). Nothing personal

Going along with this doesn't really feel like you to me and has pinged my radar a titch.

My initial thought too. Is voting to block yourself really any different from voting to lynch yourself?
Could this just be a “well this is temporary and seems relatively harmless when weighed against the village cred I could gain” scenario?
Makes me a little uncomfortable...
Not sure I am willing to push it quite this far, but still.

I hadn't noticed, but now that you have pointed it out it I would guess she has not "joined the game" or something.
I think you probably figured this out by now, but initial post specifically says:
An important note to those that do not enter the game until a certain time frame, you DO start the game, on day 1, as in the game and playing the game. Any revisions to this will occur after the end of day 1
Can we not do this again? There are 33 of us -- if you both take up the whole thread with constant bickering, you're both getting put on ignore until later on when it is quieter.
I need context for why this is not wanted because you discouraging back and forth and arguments on thread is not in my mental meta for you and I don't like it.

I know I'm notorious for tunneling on Mel so gonna take this with a mental grain of salt, but I don't think bringing up a possible discrepancy in knowledge base (bringing up something being a mayor vote vs. the details on thread) is a potato/spud situation. I think that is a valid observation and you bitching about it is more questionable than not.

It's d1 - despite being a long one - you grab onto ANYTHING in d1 and put your claws in. Don't discourage people actually playing.
