Yale Waitlist Thread 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
babel, I feel like we're on a lot of the same waitlists. Hang in there...lots of places almost like you! No, seriously, I hope something good comes through...I'm pulling for you 🙂

And to make this a little on topic, does anyone else wish we could get our tiers before filling out finaid? I am so tired of finaid and I really don't want to fill out all their forms to find out I'm in tier 3.

Thanks for the support, ltrain - yeah, my final results were 2 acceptances and 6, count them SIX, waitlists. I withdrew from 3 of them, still hanging on to 3 more.... we'll see what happens. Though I'm really happy with the acceptance I kept, it's my undergrad school, and I'd really like a change of scene - not to mention that all of my waitlist schools are awesome schools in their own right. And, even more fun, two of those waitlists were ones where my interviewers were sooo nice to me (You have an excellent application, I really hope you consider us, how can I convince you to come here?) - what a tease they both were!! 😛

But really, best of luck to you too - hopefully they don't keep us hanging too much longer! I really love to see my fellow SDNers get good news, so definitely post if you hear anything! 🙂 :luck: 🙂

has anyone heard anything yet or spoken to the admissions office this week? im just trying to spark a little interest before the dial-a-tier starts . . .

It sounds like they're a little less cheerful than usual... there must already be a high call volume. 😀

No. I just called to see if they got my email update... Mr. Silverman was in a meeting. Apparently (from my conversation a week ago with someone) there are only two people that discuss this information... Rich Silverman is one.

yeah, I think there call volume has jumped in the past week. I called on Monday and the sec scribbled my name and question down and told me she had to let me go because she had a bunch more people on the line....get ready for busy signals this upcoming week.

Edit: I got the same line about RS in a meeting as well. I am crossing my fingers that these meetings mean movement. Oh and the other person that we may talk to next week if RS is busy is the asst. director of admissions

any word yet nyx?

Somebody who has done probability recently...

We have knowledge of about 5 highwaitlisters and 31 waitlisters in our lists. Supposing that none had dropped, all would post if they got in...

what would be the likelihood that none of those accepted would be from our list? or when it is a reasonable percentage chance that we would have heard the list is moving already?
do you follow me? Like, when is it 80% that one of the people taken off the hwl is one of our 5 instead of the other 15? how many would have been accepted by then? this is all assuming that the hwl is 20, etc. etc.

Anyone got a quick answer for this?

The lack of movement is discouraging. Hopefully we'll quilt together some info from the calling on Tuesday.

Can someone call today and see if they find out what's going on? This is taking way too long...I would call myself but I already called this week.

i think they'll just tell you what they officially announced... we can't really hold them to the expectations that we have based on last year's thread. it's also possible that they met yesterday and they will extend a couple of offers today.

😕 is high waitlist the same as group 1 waitlist?

No. High waitlist is decided before they decide the tier 1 waitlisters. They received a different letter than the rest of us who received waitlist letters. As far as I understand, the high waitlisters are even invited to come to the second-look weekend. The tiers, on the other hand, are decided after May 15. Or at least, that is how I understand it. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

I think that's how it was in the past. But this year there seems to be far less movement...maybe they've combined the high priority list with tiers now? Who knows...maybe Mr. Silverman will tell us next week.

I am not too worried about the lack of movement yet....emphasis on yet.

I actually would be more worried if 1 or 2 high waitlisters have heard something, and the rest have not, because that means they have already begun but reached their maximum this far. But the fact that we have heard from no one actually keeps me more hopeful right now. Cause, statistically speaking, even a larger percentage than normal said yes this year compared to last year, there is always at least *some* spots on the waitlist, and we are likely to have heard at least something. Every school always gets some people from waitlists, no matter how high the turn up is. I am sure a good number of high waitlisters are still going to go in if not every one. The fact that we have heard nothing tells me more that for some reason or another they have not started calling people...and the fact they are making us wait till this tuesday to call may be related to that reason...

perhaps I may be too optimistic, but doesn't that make some sense? 😕
G'luck everyone :luck:

t-minus 24h41min finally we will know!😀

yeah, how many people do you think they can notify in the first two hours? if there really are 200 people on the waitlist, that's one hundred per hour - just under 2 people per minute. if everybody held off on the big conversations until a few days later, we might all know at least what tier we're in by tomorrow. but alas, much as I tried to get the whole rest of my kindergarten class to be quiet because a police officer said that noise was the only reason elmer the inflatable safety elephant wasn't talking, i'm sure that a coordinated effort will not create magical results, and people will run around the play room hogging the time with long chats without just making plans for another day. yes, i feel four right now.

Hehe...this whole thing is so crazy...I don't totally understand how they are pulling it off logistically. I am getting this mental image in my head of a PBS telethon for waitlisters hehe....with the stage filled with celebrities waiting for our phone calls and everything. 🙂

Yep. I called a little early and the line was busy then...I bet people started calling this morning.

i wish the line was busy. i keep getting the message to call back, which means i pay long distance every time, instead of just getting the busy signal.

Agreed. This is worse than trying to get concert tickets.
In just about every way imaginable.

I'm just going to concede that I won't get through today and try again tomorrow.

then got blank silence

now ringing, no answer. am i in telephone space? or maybe about to be answered... how many times should i just let it ring? i'll go with letting it ring. more meditative, less costly

turned into a busy signal.

Totally. I feel like I'm calling a radio station. And since my phone at work doesn't have redial, the admissions office number is going to be permanently ingrained in my memory.

Did anyone get through? This all seems a bit silly...why not just e-mail us our Tier so we can know? I wonder why they do this phone-in business.

Surprisingly, I did get through. I've been waiting on hold now for about 25 minutes.

Everyone please post any new info so everyone can stay in the loop.

I just spoke with Director Silverman and found out my rank (group 2). I asked him how many spots they have in their class as of now. He said that technically the class is full right now, but that is simply because many people (at least 8-10 that he knows of) will be deferring from Yale and will for sure NOT be in the 2007 class. I'm assuming that this is why there hasn't been much movement. We're just waiting for the deferrals to get going...

He does not know whether this is an average year or not. He will know more in about 2 weeks.

He also reiterated some of the things he said in the email, about groups 1 and 2 being small. Again, in an average year, groups 1 and 2 have a realistic chance of getting in...

I know this may be somewhat personal info, but it would be great if you guys could post what group you're in.

Good luck to everyone! I'm sure the lines are busy right now... :luck:

You have to keep calling back until you get through and THEN they put you on hold? So silly.

Is it unusual to be on hold for over 30 minutes?

Did a real person answer and put you on hold?

Yeah, Veronica took my name and number, told me I was a few calls back and put me on hold. That was about an hour ago.

不必客气 没有问题

If this is really funny, thank Babelfish, an online translation service 🙂
我喜欢怎么您是所有文字用中文, 我并且喜欢马和小猫。您今晚是认为月亮充分的吗?

ooh... what were you trying to say? 😉

at this point grace is only taking down names so that the secretary can get back to you or know that you'll be calling in tomorrow. there are only 8 spots available right now???? i sad

I love it. Dial in constantly for nearly 2 hrs and then get told to call back tomorrow. Honestly, I don't even care about schmoozing; I would just like to have the info.

this is very disappointing.

I've been trying to call and I keep getting the answering service. I guess I'll just wait a few days and try again later during the week.

Yehosh, in your MDApplicants file it says you withdrew from Yale. Why are you calling for the waitlist status?

I finally got through, top part of group 2. He said everything is moving slowly this year and they still aren't sure whether it's an average/below/above year. They should know much more in about 2 weeks.

Did you call them after 3:30 EST? For those of you who's numbers were taken, did anyone call you back? It sounds like they overenrolled so far...

doctorsoon, thats a mistake on my part, my apologies for the confusion.

I think because I marked UofT as where I am going to matriculate, it automatically marked it as withdrawn or maybe I did that acceidently. But I'm still on the list. Since we're past May 15th, I just wanted it to note that I have withdrawn my other acceptances, not from the Yale waitlist.

Does this mean there will only be 8-10 ppl taken off the waitlist?

This process of calling in is absurdly frustrating

At the moment it looks like there may only be 8-10 spots to fill . . . that could still mean about 20-25 acceptances to fill those spots. Still, that's really low compared to past years.

This whole process is especially difficult for me calling from London *sigh* Including time-zone differences and the cost of being put on hold. Not to mention how it is quite difficult to constantly call to get through with each call costing 15 pence (30 cents) just for hearing the first few seconds of the voicemail. :scared:

Oh well, gotta bite the bullet and just deal with it for now. Gotta make sure to put a lot of money on my phone for tomorrow.

Hey everyone,
I was the one who spoke with Mr. Silverman, who told me that he knows of AT LEAST 8-10 people who won't be in the 2007 class.

I don't know if there are ONLY this many places, but it may not be too much more than that either.

couple of questions:
(1) Do high waitlisters have to call in? They know there "rank" already

(2) Can't we assume that students who deferred last year will simply take up the spots left open of students who defer this year...assuming approx. the same number of students defer each year.

(3) Why wouldn't Silverman know by now if this an avg. year or not. We are at the end of May/beginning of June. In last years theads it appeared movement occured now- at the beginning of June due to all the drops post May 15th. Since "all spots have been filled" Silverman should know how to compare this years to last.

how many high waitlisters are there? Is it a whole separate group? Like group zero or something?😕
