Year off?

Right now I'm a sophomore with a few extra credits. I'm confused on scheduling. Do you have to take a year off after undergrad? Or could you start the following august?

You mean between undergrad and medical school? No, you don't have to take a year off. You apply during your last year of undergrad, get a summer off, then start medical school.

If you apply in June through October (ideally, June or July) before you begin your last year of undergrad, then you would go directly from college to med school after you graduate the following year, in May/June without a gap year.
