vampy bb how went your reading experiment last night? 😊

I picked up Brian Greene’s Until the End of Time again - he’s one of my fave science writers (first read Fabric of the Cosmos the summer before college and it made me be a physics major briefly before I nearly failed E&M). The book gave me a mini existential crisis but was a surprisingly nice way to wind down 🥰

i read a few pages of “priest”, i was highly entertained haha

This looks so good omg 😍 I’m jealous, my hair is so damaged I have never dared to dye it
This is why I have an excellent stylist tbh. She makes sure my hair can handle things and then works magic like this!

DUDE. Season 1 was fairly believable but 8 minutes in to s2e1 and my fourth wall has been broken there's not a SINGLE med student or resident who would miss freaking TORSADES on EKG omg
Episode 5 and the MS4 doesn't recognize active TB in the lungs?! Like excuse me that's the first thing you learn to recognize on CXR?!

I need someone to tell me how every hobby I pick is an expensive one lmfaoooo
dude I feel this so hard 😭

My sister is a figure skater so I remember what that was like. Literally renting rink time eats up so much cost.

I'm a dancer (ballet mainly). Like tell me why a pair of shoes is $140 just so I can buy a new pair like 3 months later 😭

I didn’t know you had to rent the rinks??? Yikes!!

And reallll thankfully running shoes last longer. The thing that got me in Ironman training that snuck up on me was food though. I ate so god damn much hahhaha

You don't need to for purely recreational, you can definitely just go to free skates. But if you want to get any better you usually need lessons, and it's hard to have private lessons during free skate because it's so busy. So you're paying coach fees and then usually a fee to rent the ice as well (usually several coaches will do ice time at the same time so it's not the entire rink).
Currently, I’m into MTG. And I’ve been hyperfixating on creating some new commander decks and have spent Too much money on cards this month lol
Ohhhhh no. I stopped playing MTG in the mid 2010s because it ate my budget. Thank god for Arena.

I knit. Do you know how much non plastic yarn costs???? I also like buying yarn more than I like finishing projects so I also have way too much of it lol
The fact that I can buy a sweater at Walmart for less than the the same amount of yarn from a craft store is insane

Thisssss. I had a phase where I really wanted to make my own clothes because #sustainability, but when I realized I'd need to spend an arm and a leg to make a sweater I was like... yeah. I get why people would rather buy the $25 one from TJ Maxx or Amazon instead.

TELL ME EVERYTHING
Sooooo season 2 of fallout has had me bouncing off the walls (WITH NO ONE TO TALK TO ABOUT IT) and just so happens a secret lair drops with Lucy and the ghoul????? AND THERE ARE MORE DOGMEAT CARDS???

Soooo I ended up buying the secret lair, then spent a ton on individual cards trying to actually build Lucy and The Ghoul as commanders, and then I ended up buying the mothman set cause it seems fun 🤩

Crocheter (though I do dabble in knitting) with the same issue

I’m part of a knit along that was free to sign up for but I need to buy the pattern and also yarn for it and I fear it will be more expensive than the paid classes

I largely stopped BUYING MTG in the late 2010s once I had kids and the rate of releases accelerated exponentially. But nobody can stop me from playing my old school Hazezon Tamar and Sen Triplets and Visara the Dreadful Commander decks 🙂

I just got into it a couple years ago when work slowed down and we had zero work to do so my coworkers said “you’re gonna learn nerd ****” and now here we are haha

Unfortunately, per the part about no longer buying, I largely have no idea what any of those cards do

But I legit still have MTG under "hobbies" on my professional CV, and I kid you not I probably have it brought up once a year in a professional setting 🙂

HOW DO YOU MAKE STITCHES OUT OF NOTHING

WITCH
This is so funny because I find crocheting SO much easier

But it's probably just because I learned it first

My NOW empty. But yes.
Ah this makes sense!

I would like wine tonight. But I'm somehow going to another conference tomorrow and then old friends are coming to visit this weekend, so a night off seemed prudent.

Ngl I didn’t know you could put hobbies on a cv!

I’ve only had two hangovers in my life so I think I’ll be good but who knows
Hell yeah dude! Open another!

I don’t really drink anymore cause my body said “you’re over thirty, two drinks and you’ll be dying the next day”. It’s actually wild how my Garmin shows me when I’ve been drinking like “hey buddy you slept like **** and your HRV is dead are you also dying?” 😅

I never really drank much to begin with but same. Sometimes I'll get a fancy cocktail or something but otherwise I'm quite sensitive to alcohol so it's just not worth it
