I'm kinda curious, I just got my mcat back and due to me half-assing it I only got a 26 with a 7 in PS. Would a 7 on the PS close any major doors?

* I'm going to retake it though*

Unless your GPA is lower than 3.2, I wouldn't recommend a retake. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but 7 isn't a deal breaker, especially that your overall is 26, which is on-par with most schools.

Well I'll look into it, I just feel like I can do a lot better since I honestly thanks to Kaplan and personal crap wasted 2 entire months that I could have used to actually study correctly. But if my practice tests don't show major improvement I'll just deal with it. But yah, now I just need to not be lazy anymore.... >.>

Got multiple interviews and acceptances to NSU and AZCOM with a 28 MCAT with a 6 in PS

I applied with a 26 and as you can see it didnt hurt me at all. a 7 in PS wont be a deal breaker, you're completely fine.

Serenade, I think you'll be fine with a 26 as long as your GPA is good. If you want to go for MD, you'll need to retake it obviously, but I think you're good for many DO schools.

Should be fine.

This thread is rather quiet regarding ii's and acceptances. Hoping it picks up soon.

I think it's been a slow month for a lot of people.

I know like half of the people arent sending updates and thats part of the problem too.

I should hear a decision from VCOM-CC on Thursday and I have an interview with PCOM-GA in a week so hopefully I'll be adding some great news soon!!

🙁 I'm starting to get discouraged. I haven't heard anything from any school except for SUNY Upstate who placed me on preinterview hold!
NYCOM is my absolute #1 choice and they sent out the first round of ii yesterday and I did not get one. I have a really low MCAT score so I know that is hurting me, but the rest of my app is strong...I guess I was being too hopeful and somewhat delusional to expect ii yesterday 🙁
I have not lost hope yet, but the uncertainty and long waits involved in the process is getting to me.

its only the best med school in the country. Not that im biased or anything 😛

Let's study togetherz! Lets hit those big 30s!

I'm taking it in January. Its hard trying to juggle things with school, research, work, volunteer, and mcat. I've been half assing the mcat studying 🙁

Yah, it's hard not to half ass it. No one likes doing practice problems or passages.

Hope I am not too late..

sGPA: 3.47 (undergrad was 3.5 and masters was 3.43)
cGPA: 3.43
MCAT: 26Q (9,8,9)

Applied to 13 DO schools.. Hopefully I have a chance

Unless you restricted your application to only top-tier or regional biased schools, you will get some love.

Good luck

No I didn't.. My MDapps shows where I applied.. I only applied to 2 MD schools in my home state..

Do you guys think schools will pull back their offers for ii/acceptance after seeing updated score with 6 in verbal? 🙁 I dropped from 8 but overall went up by 2 points.

Forever UG I think... *sigh*

I think you have a shot at DO schools for sure.. We have similar stats where did u apply

I wrote that I was applying next year...

Do you think I should retake? How much would 1-2 more pts help?

3+ points would make a difference - I don't think a 1 or 2 point increase would create any new opportunities that weren't already on the horizon.

My bad I looked over that quick.. I'm sure 1-2 points would help, I would just worry about dropping in the other sections.. I have a 9,8,9 and I don't wanna take it again lol I hate that test.. But if u wanna do MD then you'll have to retake

No need to retake if you are willing to go anywhere...

question..why wouldnt you retake if you arent applying till next cycle? a few points can always be helpful, higher mcat=more options

Because if I do worse then I'm screwed and have even fewer options. It's risky. Plus a lot of schools only see your most recent score.

You have an entire year. If you're willing to put in time and effort you should, you might end up hitting 30s.

Practice and practice tests. They will tell you whether or not you should retake or not.

youll do worse with that mentality. if you work hard you can certainly do better.

What are the best practice tests other than AAMC? I only have one AAMC left (#10) and another that I did as a diagnostic over a year ago (#9) so I may be able to use that one too.

I would just invest in buying all the AAMC exams if u can.. I heard gold standard exams are decent too.. Practice practice practice so anything u can get your hands on

I thought GS was terrible and kaplan had good practice exams but that was pretty much it, lol.

Other than the AAMC exams. I said that I did all of them already and only have #10 left. Are Kaplan and TBR any good?

GS is good practice for the sciences. I took a lot of them and it really helped me increase. They are meant to be more math heavy than the real thing so it overprepares you. The verbal on gold standard is garbage though.

Not that you are retaking the MCAT lol, but good info for anyone interested 🙂

So they are both fairly representative of what you would score on the real MCAT?

The more recent AAMC practice tests (higher numbers) are supposed to be more representative of how you would do on the real MCAT because they are more recent.

Yaaaa, supposedly. I had a 5 point drop from my average on test day. And no, I was not anxious haha.

I had a 4 point drop from my average. The bs and vr sections were about 50 times harder than any practice I had. Ps was harder but doable. I think the only worthwhile resources for the sciences were tbr and tpr science workbook. As far as exams aamc tbr Kaplan and i thought the rest sucked and I had access to every major prep company.
