Yaayyy Florida won the SEC and USC lost...we're maybe going to Arizona! Not that it matters to most of you, but since the FL schools are totally ignoring my pleas for an interview, this the best news I've gotten from back home in a while.

Anyway, please continue with your previously scheduled pre-med whining.

lol...i got a D in p-chem!!! my teacher was awful and the book was even worse. the one guy in my class that got an A had a phd student tutor him several hours a week...

*bad memories*, but whatever doesnt kill you makes you stronger.

PS - work was awesome...except the cleaning agents they use to sanitize the plates/tools are corroding through my hands 🙂
P-Chem blows (are we all chemistry majors here? i luv chemistry tho)...at our skool, p-chem is 2 semesters, lecture and lab 3 credits each class both semesters so thats a total of 12 credit hours for p-chem, but it feels ridiculous, pchem lab is by far the worst class i hav every taken in my life, its cool how every group of 2 gets assigned their own TA and stuff, but with lab reports and stuff, its end up being like 70pages of writing a semester...ugh

I LOVE CHEMISTRY TOO!! LOL, I teach GChem for TPR, and I have always loved chem. But, P-chem just SUCKS...to be honest, had I had a better teacher, or better resourses I think I could have appreciated it more, since I love Calculus was almost going to major in Math.

So, I'm at the Airport and they are playing german opera. I can't believe how people are mobbing the Dunkin Donuts in here. I guess I'm not surprised after working a cash yesterday at my job. People can't seem to get enough of their coffee...and what is up with people feeling special when they order their little complicated drink. Since when has your Starbucks drink become your personal signature...

"Can I get a Double Tall Extra hot, extra foamy 2 splenda and 2 raw sugar sugar free vanilla latte..."

It's actually pretty amusing. And it's always a high strung woman who orders the weird sugar combo. 🙂

Well, as you can see, I'm bored at the airport. I'm going to go get in line at Dunkin Donuts and see if I can't get something before boarding.

Hi everyone, I am currently a junior at the university of miami, and am planning to apply to med school next year. I wanted to know out of which of the four Florida schools you guys think I have the best chance.

I have a 3.72 GPA, 3.63 Science GPA
A 30 on the MCAT
Three years of medical volunteer work, and research work
Am a florida resident

Thanks in advance
Just want to reiterate the previous posters who told you to apply to all four of them unless you are geographically limited for some reason (ex. you're married, your spouse has a job in Miami, and you really need to go to Miami so as not to uproot him/her). You don't know what your chances will be at each school until you try, and it's impossible to predict how your apps will turn out based on someone else's outcome because there's not any way to account for every possible qualitative variable. I would advise you to apply to both Miami campuses also. Good luck. 🙂

I have an interview at FSU Dec. 15 and the lady I talked to when I scheduled it said she would send me two emails with information about the interview day and so on. I still haven't recieved the emails. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to send it? I think I might just call them tomorrow and ask.

Definitely call. If you just talked to them, then you could wait, but what's the harm in calling. 🙂

Soccer885,
Cograts on your interview! If you don't mind me asking.....when were you complete at FSU? When did you receive the call for your interview?

Call soon regarding those emails.
Thanks.

Go Gators!

We're #2 in the Coaches Poll (1/3 of the BCS total). Just need to do well in the computers and Harris. 😀

is there anyone still here that has heard from the 3 florida state schools and is still waiting on UM-Miami? Where are they?...

Woo Hoo! Florida is going to Tempe to spank *The* Ohio State University. I know someone from UF who has an interview at Ohio State in late January. That may get weird if there are a lot of OSU undergrad students at the interview or if the student or faculty interviewer is into OSU football.

On another note, I have officially stopped caring about Florida schools. They can all go to hell as far as I'm concerned. Lets hope feigned apathy yields better results than shameless groveling.

I said its great...to be...a FLORIDA GATOR!

Anyways, for those that were accepted to Miami, how long after you submitted your scholarship form did it take to hear back? Thanks

anyone here anything from the sunshine state schools?

wow I feel like I'm the only one with some love towards p-chem (might be because its over on friday lol). My attitude about that class really depends on the day. I'm totally brain dead from studying it non-stop for the past three days (our last test is on friday). I liked the labs at least how they are run at my school. Idon't know how labs work at the big schools, but all of our reports are kept in our notebook. So a single report ends up being 50-60 pages (and they are usually two week experiments).

So I'm wondering why I haven't heard anything from Miami or UF? Not even a phone call for an interview. Seems pretty strange.

So when is the semester over for you guys? I'm finishing up this week, since I don't have any finals (first time ever! I'm psyched)😀 😀 😀

hey i have a question. i talked to a guy at and interview and he told me he was offered a scholarship for $10k, but hadn't heard back from the school yet about whether or not he was accepted...

does that make any sense?

lol...semester? Well, it never started for me - I'm not in school this year 🙂

Call Miami and ask about your application...maybe talk to Dr. Hinkley?

Scholarship form? I didn't get this form :'(

It's an HTML site listed on your official acceptance letter (about halfway down tucked in the middle of a paragraph). You just type the address into your web browser and fill out the form for need or diversity based scholarship consideration. I haven't filled one out yet (can't bring myself to write another essay just yet). 🙂

Hmm scholarship form? I wonder if MSP students also qualify for that. I might call the admissions office and ask about that.

Glendale. It's GLENDALE! I can't believe UF basketball lost to FSU on Sunday. 🙁 It really hurts. And I have to be at FSU soon.

williams, i am now FINALLY complete at USF! and it's only december 4th! 😱

Sweet! I was complete 3 weeks ago so I'm just waiting now. Wanna join? 😀

They could play the game on the moon for all I care...all that matters is that we beat OSU. I'm starting to doubt the basketball teams chances in the tournament. They can't beat anyone of significance. Oh well, serves you right for putting my application on hold, UF. Give me an interview, and I'll uncurse the basketball team...its my final offer! Oh who am I kidding...just send me an email with something more promising than 'this is an automated email to inform you that your application is still being considered. We may contact you at any time. Thank you for your patience...you sad, gullible jackass.'

You won't be ohio state, you hardly beat any team this season!!! If you can't tell, im from univ of mich. AND IM MAD😡

You're kidding, right? You've played 3 currently ranked teams. Ohio State, Wisconsin, Notre Dame.

Wisconsin is 11-1 and hasn't yet to beat a currently ranked team. Yep, they have not beaten a team currently ranked because they've played crap teams. It's a mystery to me why they're even in the top 10.

Notre Dame. Need I say more? One of the most overrated, overranked, overrhyped, overtelevised teams of all time. Why? Because 30% of the people in the US are fans simply because of religion (fans=$$$). They got blown away by 2 ranked teams. Only beat #25 Georgia Tech. Almost lost to UCLA and Michigan State. Terrible team. LSU will dominate them.

Ohio State. Michigan was outclassed. Michigan led ONCE in the entire game. That was after the cointoss had them receiving the ball. OSU tied it soon after, 7-7. Never trailed since then and led by double digits the majority of the game. The game was closer than it should have been because of UNforced turnovers (2 bad snaps and a deflected pass). It should've easily been a 18 point blowout, but a desparate pass by Michigan's garbage QB got them to 3. End of game. Michigan didn't stand a chance (and I don't want to hear about neutral field crap arguments).

Florida lost by 10, but another deceptive score. We led the game for more than half the time. Key: we didn't allow a single offensive TD. A bad call that said "fumble" screwed us. It was a 4 point lead for Auburn with time expired, but our laterals were still live and a Auburn ran it for a TD.

As far as wins...I think you already know how many ranked teams we've beaten.

I got waitlisted at USF 🙁 :scared:
aww I'm sorry to hear that. I was wondering if you would be able to tell me about your interview...Did you walk away feeling really good or what?

Does anyone know what USF's stats are like:

# applied?
# interviewed?
# admission offers?

I don't know about chances post interview but perhaps REL could comment on that.

However, I do know that he gives it straight with you if you are on waitlist and tells you which tier you are on. Which tier did you get put on natuss?? sorryto hear that you were waitlisted there.

bwahahaha, I probably stand no chance. I would love to get an acceptance tho 🙁.

Aaa...can I take a minute and say this process is SO stressful!! :😱:

havent heard anything either. Complete for about a month. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I am in the middle tier.
After walking out I felt like crying, I know I did not do a good job explaining why I want to be a doctor and such. Plus, I want to do MD/PhD, so maybe I am not a good fit for USF nor is USF a good fit for me.
Hopefully this friday at UM will go much better 🙂

Well Natuss, just make sure that this time around you know exactly how to explain why you want to be a doctor. Practice that question over and over, until you feel confident about your reply. No need to memorize, but confidence and certainty and passion are essential 😉

You'll do great!!!

Keep in mind this is the first year they've changed the interviews from being tell me about yourself to answering more conceptual questions. One of my friends applied but just for the straight MD program. At any rate, she was asked all sorts of crazy questions about problem solving, alternative medicine, and other things that were on SDN like the alt. medicine thing.

She nterviewed with one of the actual committee members who votes on the deciding committee and can be a bit intimidating. So its not just you.

She felt it went bad and she got in. So perhaps there was some other reason other then the interview. USF is big on community service and perhaps you might be lower on that end. But mid tier is not necessarily bad depending on whether you are still in the first half of the pile or the second half. The first half has higher probability of getting accepted. Anyhow good luck with UMiami and with maybe getting off USF waitlist or getting into other good schools.

😕 Ok, so I just got an acceptance email for UMMSM@FAU, and I still haven't reacted.

I'm kind of in shock, and I'm also FREAKING OUT, because I want to know about the main campus decision. Did anyone else not get theirs at exactly the same time. I called the office - I think they hate me, because I called yesterday to find out if that was truly my decision day - and they said that I couldn't talk to Dr. Hinkley until my decisions were final, because my file is active until I get both emails. Apparently, all decisions were made last night both Boca and Miami, and I guess he found out at Boca first?!?! Does anyone know how this works? I am like OMG I got accepted to Medical school, I'm so lucky. But it's kinda overshadowed, by OMG another decision letter is coming at me within the next few hours!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

😱 :scared: 😱 :scared: 😱 :scared:

Oh great...Alternate list....

Such a funny process, my interview seemed to go SO much better at the main campus. Apparently that counts for nothing. It's so pathetic that on the day of an acceptance I just spent the last 10 minutes crying my eyes out about my being placed on an alternate list. I should be thankful, but I don't even know what to do.

I work at Starbucks and TPR, I'm not in school, I'm not doing research and I don't think I forgot to list two of my patient contact experiences in my AMCAS activities, and that's probably hurting me. I'm trying to figure out where to volunteer right now, because I can't seem to get a job in anything medically related this year, and want to show my continued interest in medicine.

How can I get off this waitlist...What kind of activities that I would enjoy, can I do to help move me up in the ranks?? Like I said, I'm not in school or doing research, so I can't update them with awards...and the like...

Wow, this was a busy day for you. Congrats on the FAU acceptance, jessy! You're going to be a doctor!!! :hardy:

Take some time now to let it all sink in and think about what you want to do. Do you feel like you'd definitely prefer to attend the Miami campus? If so, then I think it's entirely appropriate to let them know that. People get in off the waitlist all the time. I don't know how they're doing things this year now that they have separate interviews, but last year we were able to request to switch from one campus to the other. So you might want to talk to Dr. H about that if you're sure you'd rather go to the Miami campus. In the meantime, look for something to do that you find rewarding. It doesn't have to be a job, and it doesn't have to be medically related. Last year, I was doing science demonstrations for elementary school kids just because it was fun. The best one was making ice cream using liquid nitrogen for them; they absolutely LOVED that because they got to eat the reaction products afterward. 😉 And hopefully one day some of them will remember how cool it was and will want to learn more science. 🙂

As obsessive as I am about sdn, i couldnt respond quick enough to your post about your acceptance! First of all congrats on your acceptance to UMFAU! If you are really set on going to the main campus there are some things you can do. I would email Dr. Hinkley and thank him yada yada, then tell him that you are really interested in the main campus and say why (pt diversity, research oppurtunities etc). I heard about my accpetances weeks apart (FAU first) and I emailed Dr Hinkley and stressed how much I want to go to the main campus and why. Just keep showing interest in the main campus and if you are interested in research too, definitely mention that.

Regardless, you WILL be a doctor for sure now so try to relax a little.

Jessy, congrats on your acceptance 🙂🙂

Calm down! lol. Congratz for your acceptance. You are accepted to UM Miller School of Medicine and will receive your degree from them regardless if you attend FAU or the Miami campus. I wouldn't do anything out of the extraordinary to try to gain their interest. I would write them a letter next year expressing your desire to attend the Miami campus with well thought out reasons. Volunteering may help show some interest, don't know how effective it may be.

Don't be sad, you should go out and celebrate, your going to be a doctor!!

I'm sorry are you making excuses for losing to a number 10 ranked team by 10? Don't make fun of notre dame when you almost lost teams like (vanderbilt, florida state, georgia, south carolina, ALL NON RANKED TEAMS) There are three big ten teams in the top ten, ranked 1, 3, and 7. So please, hold your bias about your division difficulty to yourself. Your offense is pathetic. Michigan was in that game to the very end, if they didn't call a 'personal foul' call against our defense we would have had the ball back and a chance to win the game. Secondly we were ranked further ahead of you. We didnt lose yet we slipped in the rankings every week. Don't kid yourself, the only reason you are playing, is because we have already played ohio state once, not because your truly the 2nd best team. Lastly your sorry coach campaigned like a baby for your team, has no dignity. Its all about money, they want a larger viewing area, so they chose florida. Can't wait to see you guys get demolished. Even on a nuetral field.
