Whew! Glad I wasn't the only one. I was hoping maybe they just hadn't made any calls.
congrats on the interview

i haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate waaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiting!
I don't understand why they would call me and tell me to hurry up and finish my secondary if they just put me on the deferred list. A little aggravating...they get my hopes up and then they let me down. But WC seems like such a great school, and I would love to go there. Everyone was so nice and welcoming which is not what I can say for their MS counterparts. Can anyone tell me exactly how many seats they filled or how many people they have interviewed?? Just wondering where I stand. Thanks.
i gave emily a call and she said currently william carey is not willing to give me an interview at this time. she said this may change, but i think she was just being nice and indirectly saying im rejected. its official my dreams have been shattered, good luck everyone
I interviewed on the 25th and was called and accepted on the 29th. I had a tough decision but had to decline admission to WCU. It is a great place and everyone was wonderful. I wish all of you good luck.

Hey everyone. I am sorry for posting in this forum, but I was wondering if anyone could give me any information about the biomedical sciences program in regards to GRE or MCAT requirements. I would like to apply for this program for Fall 10 and hopefully apply for admission to WCU for fall 11. I looked on other post bac forums, as well as this one, but have not found any information about this particular topic. I also went to the website and catalog, but have not found anything yet. I called and have not been able to reach anyone. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Sorry again for posting in this forum and thank you in advance.
Osteo85: I have been deferred too, since January. How long have you been waiting?
Since last month. 50 deposits....Maybe there is hope for us deferred applicants.

If you look a few posts back there was a brief dialouge by someone in the program. Maybe you can PM them with your questions. Good luck

i had an interview yesterday...50 deposits have been paid....
hey, i interviewed that day too!!!!
have u heard anything yet?
Does WCU notify you when your secondary and/or application file is complete...or only if they're going to interview you?
I never heard anything, at all, after my check cleared...not even a 'we received your secondary' or 'your file is now complete.' I'm essentially taking this to mean I'm a definite 'no.'
I'm figuring this is normal...but just curious if they typically notify you when your file is complete.

They did not notify me directly, but I was able to call and get verification that my file was complete. I also got a receipt for my $50 app fee in the mail. I turned in my secondary really early (fall 2009) and only recently got an interview invite.
Anyone know the current number of confirmed students???

Hey Osteo85 I got all my stuff turned in around early Dec. and got an interview in January. Then I got put on the deferred list. When did you get your stuff turned in exactly? Are you on the deferred list?

I'm from GA so I just drove (got sick afterwards w/ all that pollen from long hours of driving).
The interview was very welcoming.
I was interviewed by Dr. Weir (the Associate Dean) and two faculty members.
They were very inviting and the questions were mostly what you'd expect. General questions like why DO, what qualities do u think a physician should have?, give leadership experiences, why William-Carey, where you'd like to practice, what field, and then a couple of specific questions relating to me.
The campus was nice and we got a good tour of the place.
We got a presentation of what the school would look like and what our curriculum would be. After the presentation and the tour we had our interviews.
Dr. Murphy called personally and let me know that I was accepted. 🙂
The people seemed genuine and warm.. I really liked the vibe of the place.
Hope good news comes your way soon too!! 🙂

hey grish1: I cant remember the exact date that I turned in my secondary stuff, but it definitely was by mid-October. Then I got an invite Feb 25 for an interview mid-March.
Still on the deferred list 🙁
Deferred seems like a notch above the waitlist. Just keep those fingers crossed.hey grish1: I cant remember the exact date that I turned in my secondary stuff, but it definitely was by mid-October. Then I got an invite Feb 25 for an interview mid-March.

Seems like they have put a lot of people on the deferred list. They interviewed me early which led me to believed that I was going to get in, but that wasn't the case. They really got my hopes up. Because I got emails and calls from them telling me to hurry up and complete my secondary so they could consider me for an interview. I'm hoping they will accept quite a few people from the deferred list. They have roughly 50-55 seats filled and it is mid April. When I talked to them last they said I would be notified in May of their decision, so I am thinking that if they want 100-108 seats filled in May they are going to have to start pulling from the deferred list. What do you think?
now please nobody take my word for the absolute truth, because my interview was a while ago and my memories are foggy. but i vaguely remember there being a category that you can be placed in, and it means if you strengthen some part of your app then they'll let you in. does this sound familiar to anyone? is it the deferred list? because if so, everyone on said list who really wants to attend should find out what they need to do to get accepted.

Well it sounds like you won't have to wait too much longer, so that's a good thing. Which also means you don't have long to update them on any academic/career improvements, basically updating them as to this semester's grades (if you're still in school). The whole May date strikes me as a last chance for late bloomers to get in their transcripts and help ease the sometimes cumbersome admissions committee decisions.
I bet you are correct about them pulling heavily from the deferred list for actual seats. The reason I say this is because I'm thinking they won't be interviewing people during the summer. That being the case then they will most likely be splitting up the deferred list into acceptances and waitlistings with a majority receiving an acceptance letter. Hopefully they wouldn't make you wait this long just to reject you. It's just bad form. They could at least offer someone the hope and courtesy of being added to the waitlist IMO.
They are still handing out interview invites... I got one for May 13th today... So don't know how long those on the deferred list maybe waiting...
How many seats do they have for the first class? And they are still interviewing in May? Are they offering you'll scholarships or any other incentives as the first class? What is the average stats for the incoming class? Where are you'll doing your clinicals, and does the school promote rural rotations?
I wish I couls see pics of your school it sounds awesome the way everyone interviewed talks about it?

none that i know of :-(. but i remember them saying there are some we can apply for once we're there. but i'm pretty sure these are scholarships any student could get at any school.

Just got an email from Mrs. Meeler on behalf of Dr. Murphy. I was glad to see them providing an official correspondence.
Here's a rundown of the info contained in the email that may be relevant to those who did not receive it. The school buildings are scheduled to be completed in July and the Administration building is scheduled to be completed by December 2010. I hope the construction of this building does not result in too much outside ruckus during class lecture and especially during testing. At any rate, there was mention of the class stats thus far being: average age 25.7, mcat 24.3 and GPA 3.35. There have been 54 seat deposits paid thus far. They have 5 more interview sessions scheduled and plan on having the class filled by the end of May.

Thanks for the update! I wonder if the 5 upcoming interview sessions are all filled...

discipline based, which i take to mean it's traditional. it also mentions practice-based learning (whereas when i hear "pbl" i think of problem-based learning), so that might be similar and incorporated into it. why don't you ask at your interview and report back to us? 🙂 i'm pretty flexible and i think i can adapt to any learning style, so it wasn't too big of a deal for me to find out.

they're as accredited as they can be at this point, or else they wouldn't be able to accept applications and interview people.

I heard it's an even more traditional style called CPBL, Corporal Punishment Based Learning. If you get an answer wrong you get whacked on the knuckles with a ruler by a disciplinary nun.

A buddy of mine will be there on May 13th as well. He doesn't post on SDN so I'll do it for him. His name is Mike and he is from Florida. He is excited about the school.
As for disciplinary learning, the Dean and Assoc. Dean are retired Navy Captains. Maybe when you mess up you drop into what the military calls the "leaning rest" position and knock out 20 push-ups. (Just kidding)

I now have a mental image of this technique being put to use during OMM lab.
