OMS-4, just clearing up a couple things.
Fourth year is not 100% elective. It is definitely above average in terms of flexibility compared to other medical schools. There are two 4-week core rotations in fourth year, rural family medicine and emergency medicine which must be in one of the hubsites. The rest can be done anywhere, but must fulfill 12 weeks clinical medicine (basically everything but surgery), 12 weeks procedural specialties (surgery+EM+anesthesia+IR), and 4 weeks that are truly elective (includes research, non-clinical). I've met some students at other schools that are able to fill up their entire schedule with aways, virtual rotations, and research. I've also met students that have stricter requirements like ICU or medicine sub-I during fourth year.
Also, in terms of interview vibes, there has been some turnover with pre-clinical staff, so maybe some of the interviewers have changed. I honestly wouldn't judge the program based off that tbh, because you're only meeting a couple out of dozens of people who work here. Most of the pre-clinical educators that I thought were great are still with the program. Dean/admin/staff/faculty are nice and all, but what actually matters is if the curriculum sets you up for success. I think classes after ours (we were tail-end of COVID) had more mandatory/in person classes, and some may have struggled with that. Hopefully the OMS-1/2's have some insight into the pre-clinical curriculum, and what's changed/is changing for the upcoming class.
Anyways, congrats on getting this far! If you're still waiting on interviews/acceptances, there's still hope! I didn't get accepted until May. Until school starts, spend time with family/friends, and take care of yourself, it's a long journey. Please come in without an ego. It's a new course, so don't expect everything to be the same, or that how you've operated before is going to continue to work. Med school requires discipline, but it's a solved game (get advice from classes before you).
P.S. Urology match was yesterday, and includes a member our class 🙂
