A few people mentioned getting "your application is complete" emails from them, but overall it doesn't seem like many people have posted about it yet. The last couple of years, the interview invites have gone out in mid-February, so you've still got a month left for that. 🙂

ugh...such an exercise in patience!

I'm waiting on UCDavis as well. I got the "application complete" e-mail but I haven't heard a peep from them since. I might call them on Monday to make sure they got my fall transcript, and if I find out anything new from them at that point I'll let you all know!

For the past 2 years, interview invitations went out around Valentine's day through the 16th or so. Interviews were very late Feb. through mid March, and decisions were sent out (for those interviewed) very late March.

There is typically a Saturday in late February where those invited to interview can visit the school, take tours, etc. The interview days themselves aren't that organized - you just show up for your 30-minute interview spot. They also match you up with a first year who can answer any questions, take you to their classes, meet up for coffee, or whatever.

They tend to send everything through email; make sure you check your spam mailboxes during that time. Recent phishing scams have caused many ISPs to spam block @ucdavis.edu addresses.

I know it's one of the last schools to give anyone news but it is well worth the wait - I love it here! Good luck!

I think it's important to emphasize this very good point. I specifically scheduled my interview on the first day since the weekend that ShelterGirl is referring to was the weekend before interviews started. That way I could fly out for the weekend and my interview in one. The Saturday "orientation" I think they call it was really great. If I had only come for the interview, I definitely would have felt let down...you get no info on your interview day. You show up, have your 30 min interview and leave. Maybe you see one student in the halls. That's it. So if you want to get a feel for the school (which is fantastic) and cannot schedule your own time to come, definitely come to that Saturday if at all possible!

FYI.....I think the interviewee orientation is the weekend of Feb 21st....not 100% sure of this, but it seems likely, since I don't think they'd hold it on the three day weekend the week prior

Hello! I just thought I'd add my name to this thread. I applied to Davis this year also and I'm in state. I never even got an email telling me my application is complete, but it's possible they sent one that got filtered by my spam blocker. Based on ShelterGirl's post, I'll make sure to create a rule for gmail so I get my Davis emails.

Good luck to us all!:luck:

UPDATE: I did get an email telling me my application was complete on 11/24. I found it when I applied the email filter. For everyone who didn't get the email, here's the important part:

If an interview is granted, you will be notified via email by early February. Interviews will be conducted in person at the School of Veterinary Medicine in mid-February through late March. All applicants will be informed of final admission decisions no later than April 1, 2009.

It's definitely true... check your spam folder! Two years ago, my interview email went straight into spam and just by chance I happened to open up that folder and there was the invite!!! Also, that is where my rejection email ended up as well 🙂

(However, when someone hacked into the UC Davis admissions network, the warning email from Davis that my identity might have been compromised came right to my regular email!)

If it is possible to attend that orientation weekend, I would do so. I did not as I was OOS and my interview was scheduled in the middle of the week. I flew out from MA, had a 20 min interview, and that was it. Nothing else. I managed to get a tour of the hospital, but it was one given to the general public, (and not given by a student... it was an older man, very nice, probably in his mid 70's who was a volunteer), so I was not able to ask very school/vet student geared type questions.

I was impressed with the school itself, but not with how they treated the interview process, especially those of us who just shelled out $300 for plane tickets plus a hotel! Looking back, I would have tried to set stuff up ahead of time with current students and such. Unfortunately I did not know how they ran their interviews at the time!! Good luck to all who applied!!

We got an email today saying that the orientation is Saturday Feb. 21st.

:scared: I haven't gotten that e-mail. Should I be worried that they threw out my application already? Or do they do mass e-mails in several bulk shifts? I received an e-mail saying my application was complete way back when, so I know they have my address.

Nevermind, I just remembered you're a student already, ShelterGirl!! Hoo boy, this application cycle will be the death of my sanity I swear!!

Is the orientation mandatory?

Not mandatory, but a very very good idea. Your interview will be only 25 minutes or so. There will be no students to talk to, no tours, no nothing but the interview. All of that good info that they do is at the orientation day, which this year is on Sat. Feb 21 I think. I highly recommend it. Otherwise you'll get no feel for the school and come away from it thinking Davis is really impersonal. Which isn't true, in my opinion.

Have we been told about the orientation on the 21st? I haven't gotten any info yet about it and was wondering if all applicants were invited.

If they follow previous years' format, the orientation is for those invited to interview only (I believe there's a Q&A right before which is open to everyone). There's also been a tour that day, which is nice because come interview day, you show up for the 20min interview and then leave.

Okay, so really stupid question, I apologize in advance, but I'm a CA resident going to school out of state...
So until I hear back about interviews (mid-Feb) I shouldn't book travel to go the 21st bc I might not get an interview in which case I wouldn't go, right? That just seems like it's cutting it VERY close

You guys haven't been told about the 21st yet, it sounds like. But the current vet students at UCD got an email about it.

Right, you probably shouldn't book travel till you get your interview invite.

I was in your same boat last year. I am a CA resident but did undergrad in PA. I was lucky enough to have my interview the Monday after the Saturday orientation. So I flew out to Sacramento late Friday, did the orientation on Saturday (which was great, I definitely agree with everyone's advice to make every effort to attend) and hung out with a friend for the weekend, interviewed Monday afternoon, then hopped on a midnight flight back east to be at school Tuesday morning!

I only found out about the interview about 10 days in advance. I booked my airfare the night I found out and lucky enough to find a ticket for less than $250. Good luck!

It's February now. We may hear something back this week. Any thoughts, news?

I posted some of this on the other UC Davis thread -

The past 2 years they have:
- Sent invites around Valentine's Day
- Had the interview orientation the 3rd Saturday in February (this year it will be the 21st, so I'm told)
- Started interviews themselves the Monday after the orientation (that would be the 23rd)
- Continued interviews through mid-March
- Sent acceptances and rejections very late March (I got mine the 27th last year)

I know, they don't give you a lot of notice in order to make the orientation day. If you can't make it, that's ok. It's helpful but won't make or break whether or not you are accepted. They do seem to give you 2 weeks' notice before YOUR interview so that you don't spend a fortune on plane tickets.

During the orientation, there is a panel discussion and tours. Here is the link to last year's: http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/studentprograms/interviews.html

If you get an interview, they will match you with a 1st year who can answer questions, take you to classes, and give you tours should you miss the orientation day so keep that in mind too.

Best of luck! Now back to studying neuro ...

Thanks for that info, ShelterGirl! Quite helpful!

Does anyone know if its true that some UC Davis applicants were already rejected? I hear that some people were.

I haven't heard of any students being rejected yet...here's hoping to get an interview invitation!:luck:

I'm starting to get anxious to hear from them.

I'm starting to get anxious to hear from them.

ditto that one. i know history tells us we'll hear nothing until the end of next week or beginning of the following week, but i am ready to know now! i had been doing really well at not freaking out and being overly anxious since i submitted vmcas (made for a very long 5 months last year!), but this last week has been killer.

here's to good news in the next week and a half!

Yeah, it was January 31st that did me in (knowing it was about to be "early February") 🙁

Yeah so I think I posted this on the "Rejection Letter" thread, but I was at an interview last week and a girl from CA told me she already got a rejection from them.

Hmmm.....I wonder if thats good news for people who havent heard anything yet. Good luck everyone, its almost time!

I haven't been on this site in a really long time. I was just checking in to see the chaos... Last year my email telling me of my interview came on Feb. 11th. The interview workshop was on the 23rd. Interviews started the 25th. My interview was the 28th. I got my acceptance letter (via email) March 24th. The interview workshop this year is the 21st. If the timeline is still the same, Monday the 9th would be a good bet to start hearing about interviews. I do believe that acceptance emails go out in waves, spanning over a few days. I'm not sure if interview emails work the same. It is also a fair assumption that the emails will be sent out during business hours.

If you do get an interview email, I recommend going to the workshop. This is a great time to see the campus, get a feel for Davis, hear interview stories and hints. One of the most important things you should do at the workshop is to go and look at the room where the interviews take place. This allows you to visualize your surroundings for the interview itself. Trust me, it does a lot for your mental state.

Good luck!

So it was posted that interview invites will be sent out between the 9th and 20th and that interviews will take place will take place between the 23ed and the 13th. fingers crossed guys.😍

Oh jeez...did you have to tell us that! :scared: 😛

oh dear lord. i can't decide if i'm excited, or terrified.
all this waiting is making me CRAZY!

This is such a test of patience...good luck to everyone!

Good luck, guys!! Hang in there!

:scared:

Does anyone know if Davis reject ppl in that are not being interviewed early or if they just sent out all rejection at the end of March?

I'm getting sick to the stomach. It'll be nice if they reject before sending out invitation for interview, then if you didn't get rejected, there's a good chance you'll get interview....

Personally, i don't know if I can stay sane feb 9-20.

It sounds like they rejected some because there was at least one person who got rejected, but that they probably send out interviews before most of the rejections (at least on the early end?) - Just a guess though

I don't know if it will be different this year but last year the vast, vast majority (if not all) of the interview invites went out on the same day, the first day of the "range" that was quoted to us.

Here is the thread from last year.

GOOD LUCK to you all, I didn't even apply this year and I am totally nervous for the UCD invites to go out too. :luck: 😀

I think I remember the same thing. But I think the acceptance emails trickled out a bit more over the course of a couple of days. I remember that because I was convinced I wasn't getting one because of how the interview invites had gone out (all at once) and because other SDNers had already heard back with offers of admission the previous day. It seems like no matter how a school does this process, it's nerve wracking as hell!

Seriously, I am going nuts!! UCD is my #1 choice, why do they have to be one of the last schools to let us know anything?? :scared: I'm checking this site way too often. I'm at work right now on my iPhone (slow night, obviously).

Thanks for the info. So, i guess if i don't hear from them the first week, then its pretty much a "no Thanks". .....

I don't know if I'm trying to keep my hopes in check, but my feeling is that out of state-ers will be notified first (ie this week). It would make sense to give those students first interview choice since they'll have to travel. It sounds like last year the first set of interviews was the Monday after the orientation (so prob 2/23)-that way people can fly out here for the weekend and stay for their interview...but say we even get that far...then we still have another month before we hear about admission. I feel that anyone who gets through this process deserves a seat in vet school.

:scared: I'm having a nervous break down....tomorrow's the day when they'll start sending out emails......:scared::scared::scared:

good luck everyone!!!

Hi guys! I am new to all of this. I am waiting for tomorrow with some anticipation...but pretty much seconds away from having a panic attack! Good luck to everyone waiting for Davis interviews! Can't wait to see who receives the emails from the 9-20!

Heres to hoping for good news in everyone's mailboxes in the am!

anyone heard anything? I know it's only like 9:30 in Ca but now I feel like 10 of those little blue dudes...
:scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

I don't think it's going to help...but I'll mention it anyway FWIW...

Last year, it looks like people got their letters around 11am CA time...OOS and IS at the same time.

But I think that chances are when emails go out, at least ONE of us is bound to hear something!
