Many of you know that in the background section of the dental app there is a section if u got into trouble in undergrad. Have any of you ever left this blank and had it come back and bite you in the ass?
I have no criminal record but did get written up for drinking in the dorms. it is not on my transcript but we sign a waver and if the AADSAS inquires my university will share my record with them. What should i do?

Be honest, if they ask you about it, which they probably will, explain to them the situation and why you got into trouble..

honesty.

Be sure to have an answer when they ask about it.

Don't worry. I think they are more worried about things like cheating, assault, suspension etc.

anyone wanna play devils advocate and tell me why i should conveniently forget? a success story perhaps?

Do what you want, really. The application, after all, is a reflection of who YOU are.

👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

well stated!
that's what the app really is....a reflection of your charachter....

To the OP, I would just put it. It's not worth applying, interviewing, getting accepted and then getting the rejected due to not putting down your "freshman trouble."

If there is any condolence, then think about this. In my opinion and most other applicants who have been accepted, the disciplinary action section really hurts ONLY if you do something drastic like cheat, steal, lie, assault, or perhaps academic suspension. Something like freshman drinking isn't that bad at all. There are many students in med/dent schools that have gotten in with that "charge" on their record. Plus, many people know that underage drinking goes on during undergrad. Thats a no brainer.

So I would just put it down, and not worry. Seriously, there are many people that have the same charge as you and get in just fine.

Sure, I'll bite. Conveniently forget so that you can be over joyed when you beat the system. Get everything lined up: housing, immunizations, aid. Then get kicked out of the school for lying about something that happened 4 years ago. Try to apply again and have to mention being kicked out of dental school after being accepted for not fessing up about your past mistakes.
👍

Ummmm I'm really shocked at everyone's replies. Drinking in the dorms??? Does your school seriously keep a record about that?? Almost everyone on my floor got written up at least once.. I guess it depends how serious your particular school takes it. Mine just had you meet with the hall director and called it a day. Sorry but if they make a big deal about it your school kinda sucks lol I feel sorry for you if you have to put this. This literally wouldn't even cross my mind as disciplinary action.

👍 I agree. I think if your schools writes you up and there's some official action, report it. If it is just "hey, stop taking the doors off to play pong" then you can probably not worry about it. I think it would be highly unlikely that a school doesn't look at you because you did what 90% of freshman do, but you got caught...unless you were throwing kegs off a roof or something.

Yah, they have a record of it. I had to take an alcohol class and do some community service.... HAHAHAH i was missing one spot on my app and I think i just filled it.
I am going to talk with my prehealth advisor tomorrow and see if he can help me get it expunged. If not, its cool, I will fess up. 🙁

Some dental schools will ask you undergrad to send a disciplinary action history form to them once you're accepted. Most schools will also make you go through a background check. So, it's best to get it squared out with your undergrad and take care of all the other skeletons in your closet, and most importantly be honest about it. You do not want it to nip you in the ***** after going through the whole ordeal of applying and interviewing.

Well one of my predental guy friends has a DWI on his record. I know he's worried about whether or not to be truthful on the application. I understand it's a reflection of your character- but it can be a lose lose situation. If you express you had the DWI on the app, you immediately draw attention to it and don't stand a chance. If you leave it off and they find it in the criminal background check, I'm sure there will be repercussions. But also I've always heard from many of the older board of admissions members whom I've shadowed they are mainly just checking for harsher crimes- like drug related and (God forbid) sex offenders ones- they are people too and understand people make mistakes- in fact I believe they like to see that alot of the students had active social years in college! And that a DWI wouldn't keep you out! But anyways.... So yeah I don't know what advice to give him about filling out that misdemeanor part

Yeah, I would put it down then. I doubt it will matter, but it's better to be upfront since it does sound like you had to do something for it.

If I remember correctly my Tufts disciplinary history form that went to my undergrad asked the school whether anything had ever been expunged from my record.

I am not saying your going to get caught.... but If you intentionally lied and dental schools found out, I imagine the consequences would be very severe

Agreed. As I was told at one interview "The admissions committee doesn't like surprises. If there's anything you think might be an issue you're far better off just explaining to us now instead of letting us find out on our own."

I emailed my advisor last night and instructed me to fess up. He also offered to help me edit my response to insure it hit all the key points. 😀
