I don't think you can insure against failing to get into med school. I'd just work hard in school to ensure that it doesn't come to that.
 
On a more serious note, other than good grades, I think it is good to have someone who is well rounded. Do that minor in history or 19th century Russian lit. Do some research in something you find intriguing, not just to check a box.
