Welcome to the forums. Have you attended any recruitment events? Did you register for the upcoming AMCAS/AAMC and AACOMAS virtual fairs in June? Have you networked with SNMA or any non-profit organizations focused on supporting aspiring Black physicians? Have you connected with MSPA members at schools on your list?

What do you feel is your purpose as a physician against which schools can determine your mission fit?

Thanks for the welcome! I have attended a few local recruitment events at neighboring med schools through my own uni's MAPS (undergrad linked SNMA org) organization. I wasn't the most committed member just because of conflicting meetings/events timing with my other responsibilities, but I was able to gather some helpful mentorship and info. I was never able to attend AMEC though, but hopefully will as a med student! Also, I'll look into the AMCAS AACOMAS virtual fairs - I wasn't aware of this, so it's great!

As for my future goals as a physician, it may be obvious from my activities list, but I genuinely enjoyed all of my extracurricular involvements during/after college, but I find myself all over the place. I know I am interested in service, mentorship/teaching, and maybe research, which is why my current approach was to cast a wide net and apply to schools that are leaders in one or more of these categories. I am worried about the service part though, as I do not have as many hours as someone who hopes to attend a school with a free clinic/strong service emphasis. I'm interested in a variety of specialties, but one factor I know I'll use to determine which I eventually pick is the degree to which I can give back to my community within the field.

Hope this answers all your questions!
