I have a complete different list as onco. I applied to many programs, and frankly I don't know which one to cancel, and was wondering if people can offer some advice. I spoke to a couple of residents and fellows and here's some stuff that they said:
UTSW - At Parkland you will see a lot of pathology, residents are very competent, fellowship placement is good, however it is known for its malignant atmosphere.
Cleveland Clinic - Fellowship programs are great, but the IM residency itself not so since the fellow do all the procedures.
USC - a friend of mine is an intern there, and she doesn't like it, but I forgot the reason.
Georgetown - a couple residents I know who had interviewed there both were disappointed with the hospital, and didn't quite like the program.
Emory - With Grady and surrounding hospitals, you are looking at 2000 beds, with 84 interns total - by far the largest IM program. The program director knows everyone personally.
JHU - Training is superb and unsurpassed, however lifestyle issues are in question.
Baylor college - heard the place is in some sort of financial trouble, also malignant atmosphere but good training and good name.
Albert Einstein - I know Montefiore cafeteria has a sushi bar! Beth Isreal is in downtown Manhattan, and Jacobi has a new medical center.
Baylor University
UCLA
Boston University
Tufts
JHU Bayview
Scott&White
U Colorado

So far I don't know yet what to consider in terms of canceling programs. I applied to many since I need a visa to stay.

I'm pretty close to cancelling an interview, but like others said, what's the point? Are there interview waiting lists? Do we even know if programs fill in the cancelled slots? Or is it to find out WHY people are cancelling?

There are interview waiting lists. I know of 2 schools that have them.

yep, there're waiting lists!! I have a friend that in two places is on waiting list!!!

I think this is a worthwhile thread...I think there are a lot of programs out there that are great but we just can't get to. I think it also allows people to see what programs may have more interview spots open and maybe keep hope alive for an invite.

Georgetown: Cancel

Wake: Cancel

Good luck and keep posting.

I just cancelled my Yale interview today. I want to encourage people to cancel interviews at places they know they do not want to go to. This opens up a spot for someone who is still waiting and trying desparately to arrange their schedule for the next couple of months. Best of luck to everyone!

onco, i think the concept behind your original post was well-intended, but the only one that's been posting cancelled interviews lately is you. is there really much utility to this thread, or can we just agree that it isn't working out as you had hoped and end it? don't mean to offend, but i don't see how this is helping anyone.

I actually would find posts on this site helpful. There are two programs of interest to me for which I have been told that my application is on hold. If I know that people are cancelling their interviews there I can send the program a friendly reminder of my interest. This is the point of this forum, to give everyone information. The programs themselves aren't really helping us out so we should help each other. Mcindoe, if its no skin off your back, I hope we keep this thread open... Best of luck to you all.
