2007 USNEWS rankings

Do you guys really believe these rankings? I have a hard time falling for this...Right, US News just allowed the rankings to leak out, and the guy who found them is only willing to type 1-10 and 40-50. Hmm, does this sound likely? 😎
Well, it takes them time to devise them, print them, & deliver them to resellers. It's been said on this thread that some retailers are selling paper copies already (before the official April 1 release!).
Haven't you ever wondered how music releases get leaked before they're sold? If you want the flaming lip's album that comes out next week you just need to ask. I've had it for over a month.

It doesnt sound like USNEWS leaked it- the story is that the magazine has already arrived at some stores, and that they broke the street date. This happens with a variety of media (Books, movies, video games) from time to time, so it's not that unheard of.

The rankings are the same ones I saw today at Borders.

That thread agreed that it was obviously fake, the guy switched around the top ten and left everything else the same. I can't believe someone would go through the trouble to do that...malicious and ridiculous.
.

More like hilarous...look at all the freaking out and discussion it prompted...you can say i'm insensitive but when it comes to people freaking out because their school dropped out of the top ten its more or less self inflicted pain than malicious behavior...

...more evidence why choosing a school based on rank is intrinsic foolishness. I mean if you chose Emory because it was in the "top 20" last year on that list, what are you thinking now that it is 26? But if you are secure and picked it because you loved the school and location, and you are of reasonable mind to know that this is merely a fluid list by some magazine hardly anyone reads anymore and that you are not going to be "less successful," then you have truly matured.

Again. This list is accurate. If you go to your local B&N or bookstore, they probably have them on the shelves already.

can someone post the list for the primary care schools ???

....just kidding, although I'm probably gonna go to Borders today and try to get the mag 😳

2. UNC
3. Oregon
4. Mich Stat U. Coll. of Osteopathic Medicine / UMass Worcester

These rankings are 100% ACCURATE.

I am in NYC and I walked over to the Barnes and Nobles and sure enough the 2007 US News and World Report Best Graduate Schools edition was out. I checked it out and these rankings are correct...

Now that Baylor is in the top ten, maybe I should withdraw from cornell and columbia and go to Baylor, mmm.....

(sigh) these nouveau ranked matriculants simply have no class whatever. your boastfulness is really quite unbecoming. you would do well to follow the example of harvard and hopkins matriculants, who know how to announce their application accomplishments in, shall we say, more subtle ways. why not a nice "Baylor c/o 2010" signature instead, darling. hmmmm?

Having been accepted to all of those schools this is a big deal to me, oh wait I haven't been accepted by any of those school so this isn't a big deal to me. By the way I came up with me own rankings based on my system:
1 Duke
2 UNC
3 CCLCM
4 UNC*
5 Hopkins

*UNC is awesome, 2005 National Champs, nice weather, so they get on there twice, other schools lost point based on location and not being interesting enough to apply to.

As you can tell I'm kind of a deal and thus these ranks should replace USNWR

if you're going to use basketball as a criterion, isn't it heresy to have Duke and UNC on the same list?

For those who've seen the mag, are there any good articles about med school? I like the articles. 🙂

There is one very positive article about how there is a shortage of doctors and that Doctors are getting paid very well and that they don't have to work as much... pretty good news for those of us going into the field now!

no, but i'm guessing they'll have a ground-breaking story on med school being hard to get into and tough to get through. 😉

i bet usnews editors read these forums and laugh so hard they dry their tears with our money. we're such suckers.

He probably has the online subscription too with full-length videos of virtual school tours.

can anyone post 21-30 please. Apparently two of my prospective schools have fallen from grace with the gods of USNEWS 🙄 . I must know how far.

I think it is, in fact I think that anyone who goes to Duke based on basketball is losing it. Did no one see LSU beat the fear of god into the Blue Cheeses? I mean, when one school has both the men and the women in the Final Four, AND they accepted me to their medical school, well they're just obviously the classiest act in town, right?

And those med school rankings have been air-brushed and surgically enhanced.

This is funny because I think a Cornell student mentioned WC made some deal with Baylor to try and up their funding on paper in hopes of impacting the rankings. Cornell went DOWN, and Baylor took off into the top 10. This is why I never negotiate with Texans, you just end up getting screwed.

I am curious to see what my schools residency director score is, but I'll just look at it when it comes in at the library.

actually, there are a number of surprises. baylor's raise to the top 10, wash u's decline, columbia's fall out of the top 10, yale's return to the glorious top 10...

rankings matter, period.

sure they do. sure hope hms doesn't fall from #1 anytime soon, or else...

for the record, I don't go to HMS. In fact, I'm a sophomore at Dartmouth who's had a ton o' fun on these boards.

well that makes my point even better then. keep having fun.

all i can say is...go penn, ucsf, and yale!

sucks that columbia, michigan, and cornell dropped, however insignificant it is in the grand scheme of things

Oh, irony.
I really hope you don't start a UCSF vs WashU thread.

woah! unc made it into top 20

UNC was top 20 two years ago. More point that these rankings do not matter.

For instance what does it mean if a school drops from 15 to 26 and goes back up to 17, years later. What is the school's real rank?

They are not totally useless, but residency directors and people over 25 certainly never look at them.

It has been an obsession of Baylor for the last 7 years to make top 10, whether they made it clean or not it seems like their dream finally came true...

It was lovely of Baylor to come to the rescue of Tulane last year after the Hurricane and give a home to the entire medical school, faculty, and students at their facility. For that good deed, they were rewarded with a spot on the top ten. Talk about karma.
My school, UCLA, however, is continuing to hover at the eleven spot, "not that it matters". UCLA was happy to share its spot last year with such a venerable institution as YALE "not that it matters" and will be happy to share its spot this year with two other great medical schools, Columbia and Michigan "not that it matters."
But hopefully we will keep Baylor from that elusive number ten spot next year and push them down, thus making UCLA a top ten "not that it matters".

After all, we are in the FINAL FOUR!!!!

If he attends any of my alma maters I am sure my "legacy" will still be talked about. It's amazing how uninhibited one gets with a couple mushrooms and a few bloody mary's. 😉

When you write it up like that....it actually makes me interested in rankings.

How will Columbia kick its addiction to be in the Top 10?
Is Yale prepared to deal with the glory of being in the limelight again?
And how will the rugged outsider, Baylor deal with its new crowd?
Find out on the fresh issue of U.S. News.

It's like OC for pre-meds.
