This is probably correct. During the first two years, your required travel will be limited - it is possible to end up with preceptors off the hill, but the farthest I've heard of anyone having to travel is to Lake Oswego. Also, if you don't have a car, it's even less likely that you'll have to travel a long distance to reach your clinic.
However, if you don't have a car, you can purchase a TriMet pass for $330 for the entire year and it covers unlimited bus, streetcar, and Max rides. MUCH less than the $2,500. 🙂
