Nothing here in Massachusetts. I guess I have another month to wait. 🙁

Gahhh!!! I hate the med school application process. I just want all of this to be over. 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

i doubt something mailed yesterday from SF in first class USPS would get to MA that quickly....maybe tomorrow

i cld yesterday (without looking at this thread first), and they sd a small # wld be sent later this week (none yesterday). i said ok and hung up but then thought: they cant be making decisions over xmas. wld they send on the 26th?

i think i need to chill and just revisit this painful anxiety until after the holidays...seems like theyre not in a hurry to get them out. plus admin schedules are so splotchy during this time with vacation time and whatnot.

but must admit: still will be checking this thread daily for any news.

I do wonder if website status is updated after the decision...this wld be a good question if someone calls again.

i'm not sure if we can really predict what they are doing based on the day or the hour... i mean when i got my interview invite it came around 11 o'clock at night... seemed like someone was burning the midnight oil in the adcom office.

Yeah, for serious. I got my interview invite on the morning of Thanksgiving! So expect the unexpected, y'all.

Thanks shemarty. You are full of good information. You also seem to be everywhere. 😛

I was complete on 8/22, and I received the interview invite on 10/3. You can also find this data on the interview invite thread, because people list their complete date, invite date, and interview date.

Thank you for the information. Can you comment on the curriculum at UCSF? How do you like the PBL aspect of it?

There's no real PBL. Just review and synthesis of lecture material in the format of cases. You don't learn things anew from those "PBL" sessions.

Also, in case people missed my posts before, there will NOT be any update on the website post interview.

Ariodant!

I was just talking to a couple of my MS1 friends, and we are all still wondering who you are. haha. you were helping us out last year.

I'd do it if I were you. UCSF is a great school and definitely worth it.

hhahaa. cant leave the forum alone huh. haha. I'm lurking to see what the news is for the incoming MS1s.... im crossing my fingers for a couple people who interviewed... *cough cough*

If you are sneaky enough it's actually quite easy to find out😉

ACCEPTED WOOOOHOOOOOO

White first class envelope with a UCSF folder inside

Good luck everybody else still waiting!!!

congrats!!! i'm just wondering... do you live in the bay area? i didn't get any mail today, but i live in socal and i'm hoping that maybe something is coming tomorrow. :xf:

For all those waiting for JMP, Mary-Rita called me on Chirstmas Eve morning to let me know that I was accepted!!!

I was one of the first to interview there (October 28th) so I guess I got in the first stack.
SOOOO excited and totally taken aback!!! still haven't heard anything from the main UCSF yet...

Does anybody have any opinion about JMP vs. UCSF. I know they are VERY different but just wondering what you think the pros and cons are?

I called last week because I was out of town and hoping they might be able to tell me something on the phone. They weren't allowed to. (I interviewed on 10/21)

Then I asked if it was possible to find out whether I was even reviewed at the December meeting, since on interview day Dean Wofsy said that something random can happen (interviewers were busy on day of meeting, etc) and you can get delayed to the next month's meeting.

According to the office, I was in fact not reviewed in December, so I should expect to hear back in late Jan / early Feb.

Bummer

I live in socal as well, so maybe I just had the good fortune of having both of my interviewers around during the holidays.

I 😍UCSF

Does anyone know who the Chair of the Admissions Committee is? I am writing my appeal...

dean wofsy?? who based on past threads, anyone who is accepted automatically becomes obsessed with hahaha

So when they say write to the Chair of the Admissions Committee at the Admissions Office, that is Dean Wofsy?

He's listed on the website at the Associate Dean of Admissions. I'd say addressing the letter to him is a pretty safe bet.

I got my acceptance in the mail yesterday too. It was expected, since I deferred from last year's group, but just thought I'd let people know they were going out since I was on pins and needles last year. My letter was sent on 12/23.

Hope to see some of you next year. UCSF is a wonderful place.

hey guys, congratulations on being accepted! that is so insanely exciting! i've been complete since 11/18 and i'm slowly starting to lose hope, this is my #1 choice. do you think that writing them a letter, kind of preempting a post-sec rejection would help? or is that jumping the gun? serously, if i got in i would give everyone in the world a cupcake or something, i ****ing love this school. oh also, i was a summer intern at ucsf, i have no idea how much that will help, but i have been on the parnassus campus quite a bit ...god that place is so awesome.

Well, I'm coming out of SDN retirement to congratulate the new accepted students...and to revisit a very happy memory of last December.

I love it here, you should come! 🙂

Wow...acceptance letter arrived today! 😀 So excited!

OOS, Interviewed 10/6/2008, letter arrived at permanent address in IL

I never imagined I would be this fortunate. Good luck everyone!

nice work everyone. looks like they really tried to make it an xmas present! i'm in az but nothing. i'm gonna stay in the dark about whether they reviewed me or not....cant kill the hope...

Wow!! Congratulations, everyone =)!!! Must be a super stellar holiday for you!!! Hopefully, more good news on the way in January :xf::xf::xf:! Would LOVE a chance for an interview! Public health opportunities are just incredibly spectacular!! (Well, everything about UCSF is pretty phenomenal 😉)

Congrats again :claps:!!!

Just got rejected by UCSF, so take my words with a grain of salt. But seriously, this school accepts URMs with MCAT scores in the 20s and rejects highly qualified applicants who don't happen to have been born with the privilege of a desired skin color for the entering class.

I know know, I'm a bunch of sour grapes. The subject of URMs has been beaten to death and it's not my intention to hijack this thread. But I just think that UCSF is more prone to accepting the undeserving URM than other medical schools.

was this pre or post-interview?

i don't think they've rejected anyone post interview yet...

I think Dean Wofsy said that they do reject post interview. I am sure those letters were sent out on the same day as the acceptances

IIRC, they don't reject post-interview because of how hard they make it to get a secondary and an interview. If you make it to the interview, you are either accepted or waitlisted.

EDIT: Nevermind. I think I'm getting it confused with UCSD.

from what i understand of the process, they do reject post-interview. They kind of tier everyone at meetings. Those above a certain bar get accepted, those below a certain bar get rejected, and everyone in the middle (many many) stay in limbo. And as they add other completed apps/interviews, it all shifts again... congrats to those accepted! I probably wont see you much (third years disappear after March), but you guys will have a great time. And even those who didn't get accepted - no worries, I'm sure you'll get in somewhere, and you'll love it there too. And hate it sometimes. B/c it's medical school, and it can be a love/hate relationship sometimes 🙂.

I agree, I have heard that UCSF is particularly accommodating for some very "non-traditional" applicants

per the WashU thread...let's just keep this thread on topic on how wonderful UCSF is 🙂

I'm from SF, I live literally 10 minutes away from UCSF... I think I'd faint if I get in, my UCSF PRIME interview's on Thursday and I definitely can't wait!😀 And to the disparaging remarks about UCSF, come on man, relax please. I'm Black, and your statements are definitely hurtful and waaay off mark👎. I really do wonder how you'd have fit into UCSF (and into the greater SF Bay Area) even if you DID get in. I don't know how it is elsewhere, but over here, we go out of our way to encourage diversity whether it be based on socioeconomic factors, sexual orientation, skin color, or any other factor you can possibly think of. UCSF is a top 5 med school for a reason, and I'm sure the ENTIRE student body has played a part in this.
Anyway goodluck to everyone on this thread, congratulations to those already accepted, and thank God for San Francisco! I love my city!
