They received my secondary 8/28 and I'm finally complete as of 11/18!! Hooray!

I hope they hurry up. I received my secondary on 11/14, almost twelve weeks after they received my AMCAS. If I have to wait another 12 weeks until my secondary is marked complete, it will be mid-February before they even look at my application! 😱

I just got my secondary this week as well...I'm wondering if it's even still worth it (not even just OOS, OOC)

Can someone give the office a call and ask when in December they're planning to notify the first batch of interviewees?

I don't know. However, UCSF is my top choice, so I might as well let them know.

Yeah, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to let them know. I'm still trying to figure out what my top choice is...

I called yesterday, and was told the week of December 15th. I'm guessing we'll have our decision mailed on that day since it's a Monday. I'm not sure if they are going to send an additional email.

JuliaGulia...I'm interested in the exact date they received your primary. Btw, congrats! It's been just about 2 months for me and am hoping for a miracle. UCSF is my dream school. I was just at a dinner event at UCSF recognizing my grandpa's run as dean there and couldn't be more impressed with the alumni and current physicians. Ahhh UCSF pwease give me a secondary.

Thanks for the congrats! It took them 11 1/2 weeks... They received my primary 8/27, I received the secondary 11/14 at 9:30 PM.

Your grandpa was a dean at UCSF? So why exactly don't you have an interview already? 😉 Good luck to you!

They got my primary on 8/25 and i also got my secondary on 11/14. I wonder if we were in the very last batch of secondaries sent out? how much of a disadvantage do you think we'll be at for being "late"?

I'm really hoping that because we got secondaries so late that they'll be processed quickly - that most have already been entered, so it won't actually take another 12 weeks to become complete. ::cross fingers::

That's what I'm hoping for as well. I have no idea how much of a competitive disadvantage we'll be at for being late, but worrying excessively about it isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference.

Thanks for the info. Haha yea he was dean in the late 60s, but started the anesthesia department. He was actually my great grandfather and passed away before I was born. I was hoping UCSF would atleast give me a look...even just a courtesy interview to give advice.

Oh well. Hopefully your batch of secondaries wasn't the last to go out 🙁

Good luck with interview decisions.

Dec 15th will be the first meeting on post-interview applicants, but at least last year, the first batch of acceptances didn't get sent until late Jan. Many interviewers have administrative duties and will be quite busy near the end of the year, and can't make it to the first meeting. The office will also be busy processing all those who applied late. Hopefully there won't be a delay this year, but if Dec 15th passes without a stir, don't freak out.

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck appealing a post-sec rejection? I'm thinking about appealing because UCSF is my top choice (I do clinical research at UCSF and I love it here!).

If anyone has appealed, do you know if there's a limit to how long the letter of appeal can be?

Also... good luck to everyone waiting for an interview/acceptance!

I received my UCSF secondary just this morning (IS, primary received 8/31). They're still coming in!

Thanks for the info! I sure hope to hear soon, I seem to be more drawn to UCSF with each passing day. 🙂

Hey everyone,
I applied late September, OOS, and just received an invite for a secondary yesterday. Just thought I'd post in case there was anyone like me out there checking SDN obsessively while in pre-secondary limbo 🙂

I'm in exactly the same boat. I appealed, but sent it out just a few days ago. I got an e-mail saying that the appeal will be considered. No idea on a limit, but mine was relatively short. I figure that I don't need to repeat my application too much if they're really going to consider my appeal.

Can any non-PRIME UCSF applicants who got an interview give me an idea of how long the interview schedule is?

The interview day is the longest I've had yet, but it depends on exactly when your interviews are. It's scheduled for 8-5, and it was pretty much that. Interviews are in the afternoon after all the other stuff (including sitting in on a second year class for an hour which was cool), so that's a little different. Also most of the interviewees had to take a free shuttle either to San Francisco General or the V.A. (~15-25 minutes) to one of their interviewers' office. I was lucky to have both of mine on the UCSF campus. First one was at 2:30 with a second year student (who is a full voting member of the committee), second at 4:00 with an md.

I should say, however, that it's an extremely relaxed day. They make it very clear that the hardest part (getting there) is over, and they are honestly already sold on everyone who got interviews, but unfortunately can't accept all 500 people. Not a stressful day at all and I had a few hours of down time which I used to relax in the library and walk around the hospital. Chances once you get an interview are slightly better than 50/50, which are the best I know of, and your whole life doesn't lie with the whims of a single interviewer, because everyone carefully looks at your file again (this is why they give so few interviews). In short, the day is long but not bad at all.

completed 10/13

invited for interview 11/24

por fin...

is anyone past the twelve week mark and still waiting to get complete?

I'm not, but my status page says that if it's been eight weeks or more you can call or email about what you're missing.

thanks but i did call in at the 8, 10, and 12 week mark but they keep telling me 2-3 more weeks. i waited but is this wait too long?

Good news! They seem to be processing secondaries more quickly now 🙂

Huh. One of my friends said that she was accepted in November of last year.

*shrug* Dunno about last year, but this year, on interview day, they definitely said the first meeting would be in December.

Any JMPers out there? I recently got an interview for this program as well as for the regular MD program. I'm OOS. Lots to be thankful for today.

JMP sounds like a great program, but I'm wondering how rigorous it is compared to more conventional pre-clinical curricula. Any thoughts?

Congrats!

I had my JMP interview a few weeks ago. The pre-clinical years sound much less stressful than a traditional curriculum. This seems mostly because they are stretched out over 3 years and the extra time is spent studying graduate courses that you're particularly interested in. However, the curriculum is way way unique and kinda crazy. It definitely doesn't suit everyone, but I would love it. Their match list is just fine and you can get anywhere you want with this program.

The only two things that i'm hesitant about is taking a 5th year (although I'm not old, i am getting oldER) and starting in late june. yikes.

Thanks for the info. What did you think of the small size of the program? There are, what, 16 people per class? Is this a plus or a minus in your opinion? On the one hand, I can see it being really great - lots of personal attention and a chance to become very close to your classmates. On the other hand, I can see it being a serious problem if you don't gel well with the other students...

The class size is small (16) and each semester you get placed into a group of 8 who you work with for that whole semester. Interpersonal stuff can be a huge issue, but I'm pretty sure that the people that decide to go to the program understand what they're getting into and at least to some degree self-selects for the 'right people'.

honestly i think the real issue is the curriculum. wait til you interview, and you'll see what I mean. again, it would suit me, but it certainly isn't for everyone.

Thanks. Would you do JMP over regular MD if accepted to both? Sorry to pry, I'm just curious...
