I'm going to call them to declare my <3 and see if theres anything else I can do to better my chances.

I just did this, and was basically told that there wasn't anything I could do at this time. Oh well... it was worth a try?

Anyway, congrats to everyone that's gotten in so far! And good luck to everyone that's still waiting, like me :xf:

I was told that I can send in another update letter if I have anything else to update, but other than that, theres nothing I can do.

Accepted this morning at 10:06am via phone call from Dean Dodson 🙂

Good luck to all!

Congrats! We might be classmates!

are you guys all definitely going?

Almost certainly. There's one, maybe two, schools I might rather go to if I get in off their wait lists, but the chance is so minimal! So yeah, seems like I'm going to Wash U!

i also got a phone call from dean dodson (about 3:00 in connecticut). congrats to everyone whose in and good luck to those still waiting. anyone know if there's a facebook group for the 2013 class up right now?

congrats everyone who got in!

There doesn't seem to be one. I also couldn't find a thread for us in the Allopathic Class Threads forum. 🙁

anyone who got off the waitlist:
have you been sent any of the housing contract forms yet?
anyone planning on olin?

i got the call from dodson (during my graduation speaker's talk haha) so i'm just wondering. thanks

I'll be living in the CWE with my wife, but we haven't signed a lease yet.

This may be premature, but I've been checking out stethoscopes... does anyone know if we just buy our own before arriving or if we will be given/loaned one? I'm going to get the Littmann Cardiology III if we are just supposed to purchase one on our own.

Also: did anyone else apply for the WUMP? I sent my application in a few days ago, and I'm really hoping I am selected to do it! I don't know how they choose people per se; there is only room for about 1/3 of the incoming class (is it ~40/~123?), but I'm not sure how many people will actually apply for it.

Good luck to those who are still waiting/hoping for good news!

No idea about the stethoscopes.

Definitely signing up for WUMP. Maybe I should go ahead and fill in that application now before I get too lazy. I really like pre-orientation programs. 😀

I want to live off campus, preferably in CWE, but I was planning on living with a friend who's starting grad school at Wash U and it just occurred to me a few days ago that she'll probably be with the undergrad campus... Not sure I can convince her to live next to the med school with me.

Has anyone heard anything lately? It seems like nothing's really happened since that first burst of acceptances right after May 15. I guess that probably means that their class is full.... :/

Someone in the Waitlist Movement thread posted that they got the call on 5/27. Still, can't be more than a handful left to give.

OMG, I just got a call from Dr. Dodson. I was at a meeting, so he left me a voicemail asking me to call back. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but... God, it's going to be hard waiting for business hours to come.

Edit: I spoke to Dr. Dodson today, and I did actually get in!

Nice... At least that shows theres still *some* hope.

Wow... In off the waitlist on 6/3. Dr. Dodson left me a voice mail and I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I listened to it.

Congrats! I totally had the same reaction

I have just been accepted off the waitlist! However, I already have a decent deal at Case Western (20K off per year) and already have a sweet apartment and lease deal? Plus Cleveland is only 3.5 hours from home!

Why would I want to choose Wash U over Case now? Their residency matches are both stellar.

Posts like this make me jealous...

Is anyone else stressing out about the white coat size order form? I wear a size 40 suit jacket, and I certainly wouldn't want it to be any smaller. I'm ~5'11" 195 lbs. My options are 38-40 or 42-44 (why can't there be a 40-42...). The sizing says that the coats run on the large size, and "Do NOT size up." The 38-40 would seem like the obvious choice in that case, but I wouldn't be able to comfortably wear it even if it was like 39-39.5 size... It would really have to be ~40 (unless I lose 20lbs or something, which is an option).

I'd say go with the 38-40, but I could be wrong. I'm guessing the sizing might be similar to lab coat sizing. Do you know what size lab coat fits you best?

I have a lab coat, but I don't know where it is. When I bought mine at the campus bookstore, there were only S/M/L, and I think I got the medium. I don't know... I mean, everyone's lab coat here is big (not fitted).

This is totally random, but your SDN handle and custom member status message are awesome.

A small lab coat is huge on me, so I ordered the Extra Small White Coat (which also corresponds to my dress size, according to the chart). Hopefully someone who's actually tried a white coat on will be able to give you a helpful answer soon!

I'm actually in StL now (I got in today, I'm looking for apartments). I'll be here through thursday late afternoon; if anyone is in StL send me a PM and I'll give you my cell so we can meet up for lunch or drinks or something! Also, my wife is here with me 🙂

Hey guys, just wanted to say I did some soul searching and decided to take a year to do some service abroad that I've been putting off due to money and time constraints (interviews! ack). Dr. Dodson was very understanding and allowed me to defer, so best of luck to whoever of you gets my slot! I expect you to give me big ups when I show up as a first year in 2010 😛

Haha could have been me, if it was last thursday! So, anyway I am having a hard time of choosing betwen Case Western and Wash U... I need to know more info about the education at Wash U... what is the daily class schedule like for M1 and M2??? (I lost that sheet from the interview)? How was the class at second look? I just want to go to the place that fits me better and I will be most happy at!

I'm on the wait list at both, so this is a win win for me. I work at Wash U School of Medicine in the Division of Oncology.

In general, Wash U goes 9-5, and is lecture based. There is more class time here than average, but then I would guess a lot of people don't go to a lot of lectures. The amount of money on this campus is staggering. Any research you want to do is probably doable.

Case seems to be one of the best implementations of PBL. Less class time, but you need to be at all of it, and you had better be prepared and awake. The location isn't as good, but the people seem very happy, and not overly stressed. Can also use the extra time outside of class to get another degree, like bioethics, or physiology.

Good luck, and when you withdraw from one, send them my way.

is anyone else having trouble figuring out how the h**l to live on the cost of attendance? it's like they expect us to live in a box. I have a wife and I'm not getting another roommate; my wife is a grad student who will be maxing out loans herself and I still don't see how we'll be able to cover our necessary expenses (rent, food, utilities, cell phone bill, car payment, insurance, etc.)...

Thanks for the good advice! I hope you were at least accepted at another school. I am going to call some people in the admissions office tomorrow and go over the exact details of the curriculum as there seems to be no place online that has a detailed breakdown of how it works in its entirety. No prob you can have the spot I leave!

How much rent are you looking at? You should be able to find some pretty cheap housing. I'm hoping to spend no more than $500 a month for rent (living with a roommate), and I know I can keep my food costs low (currently spending about $600 a month after utilities and rent and other bills, and I can easily cut back. Food alone is a pretty small portion of it). I don't have a car though.

I don't think the summer months are included in the Cost of Attendance for M1, but a lot of people do summer research that gives them a stipend (usually about $3400?) that they can live off of.

This is my first post ever, I have been following this thread for a while but have been too lazy to register. I got the call from Dr. Dodson about an hour ago. I hope that keeps hope alive for some people.

also does anyone know when I would receive a financial aid award package or if I can still sign up for campus housing?

Is all your stuff in? If it is, it shouldn't take too long. It took just under two weeks for me to get mine but there was slight confusion with them wanting a tax form from my parents that doesn't exist and then the guy in charge went on vacation, but he's back now. 🙂 Not sure on campus housing. I didn't pay attention to the forms since I wasn't planning on signing up for it. Call and ask?

Also, I recommend joining the facebook group.

I don't know about campus housing, but I actually got a call from the financial aid office a few hours after Dr. Dodson's call telling me that I was awarded a merit scholarship. Since I had all my financial aid stuff in already, they were also able to direct me to a website, where I could look at my package. I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet, though (I just got in off the waitlist last Tuesday).
