It's on the website and just basically makes your undergrad attest that you haven't done any think like academic dishonesty, etc...

I was told that they have been burned in the past and had to revoke admissions offers, etc...

On an amusing note, they don't need them to award an interview (apparently).

I'm currently working full-time doing something fun 😀

It's derived from the standard makes-no-sense-pseudo-latin-space-filling "lorem ipsum" text. 😀

I'm including summer stuff in the "if not enrolled full-time..." essays, but if you actually are enrolled... uh.... hmm. Some schools have spots for "additional information" you'd like them to consider. For the others, I'm sure you can find some way to work it in. 👍

so did most of you guys leave the optional essay part blank? thanks.

I wrote a short paragraph to expand some thing that I mentioned on my personal statement, but nothing too big.

Should I consider my letters received if my letters have been posted and made available to the school via virtual evals?

Yay for a quick administration, that is once it takes them a month to write your cover letter.

Lol .. did anyone else receive a "you are a great fit for WashU because of your MCAT score" letter in the mail?

My mom was all excited... and I just lol'd and told her that they've probably sent it out to hundreds of applicants
Mann.. what a day. First Vandy's misleading interview email and now this 😀

Got that one last year after the MCAT scores came back. Now I'm below their average! Boo!

Haha yeah I also got one, which was doubly amusing because my mom (who knows nothing about med schools if they're not, say, harvard) was like "oh honey that's nice of them. Maybe you can apply as a safety".
Hysterical laughter ensued.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

That's precious!👍

🙂 I know, I was tempted to apply to Wash U and be like "my mom thinks it's cute that you want me to apply to your school, so if you REALLY insist, I GUESS I can add you to my list. Don't get your hopes up, though."

what exactly is this school form you are talking about??

The school you're receiving (received) your degree(s) from has to send in a certification form confirming your status as not a rotten, lying, bastard son of a gunner's stolen notes. The form is available on wumsapply. You take it to the school, they fill it out and mail it.

hey,

for the optional essay question.. if i've had abroad experiences which i feel are unique but i have listed them as an activity in the amcas extracurriculars section as well as mentioned it in my personal essay, do you think i shoudl just leave it out instead of writing it in the optiona essay box? thanks!

Calculus courses... hmm

I've done Calc 2 and 3 and Intro to Stats in college. Would these count? I honestly don't remember which ones had diff eqs. at all.

Yeah so I remember filling out the washU secondary. A number of things are memorable.. one, when I filled it out there were zero essays (??) but they asked about class rank in HS and SAT scores. I didn't fill out the class rank thing even though I knew it (and it wasn't good). I've since admitted to dean dodson (my advisor at washU) that I lied about not knowing my rank. He was cool with it. He also said if it really mattered they would actually contact your HS if they could find out where you went. lol

Another striking thing was the diffEQ thing. Now.. I'm a math major, so I took a class on diffEQ. But I remember thinking 'holy crap, they expect everyone to take a diffEQ class??' --no. It's a poorly written requirement on their app. Technically speaking, in calc I or calc II at some point you solve equations like dV/dt = kV --> dV/V = k dt --> integrate both sides, etc. Hardly a meaningful differential equation, but a diffEQ nonetheless. That's what they mean...

Anyway, I've overstayed my welcome with this long post. Parting words: having just finished the 1st year, this school is amazing. You'll be hard pressed to find a school offering a more spectacular experience. The application and interview process may seem geared toward numbers, but in fact it's the opposite: they don't care much about your secondary (thus no required essays); instead, they interview ALOT more people than most schools of similar academic stature. In short, the adcom wants to meet you in person and make a more informed decision. So stick with it, gl w/ applications, and hopefully I'll see you roaming the halls in fancy suits come fall.

Whom I should ask to fill out this certification form? The department registrar or someone else? I am a graduate student and do not have a premed committee. Can I ask my thesis advisor to do that ? Thanks.:luck:

Uh!

The instructions on the website that lets you download the form mentions a Dean of Students. At my school, that's the office that handles academic affairs (i.e. cheating, standing, etc). If this doesn't help and you're still not sure, I would give WashU a call to see who might be an acceptable person/office to go to.👍:luck:

Thanks! I will call WashU on Monday to find out.

Just out of curiosity, has anybody had their letters of rec and/or dean's certification form listed as received?

Doesn't look like anyone has had their letters received yet.

i wish u good luck this time around myuuch, hopefully in a year we will be on the same campus.

Yeah, I'm definitely liking that part. Does anyone else charge that little? I know the UCs come in close at $60...

The entire Texas system has no secondary fees. And I think it's like $115 to apply to 7 schools.

How quickly do you think you should turn around a secondary? One week? Two? Is that too much?

Wash U has no essay, so immediately, for that one.

As for the rest, I think the consensus is "ASAP without compromising the quality of your essays."

The sooner you turn it in, the sooner they can review your file...

How much does WashU care about legacy? Even if it's not to the med school?

So I've been trying to dig up the old high school stuff but no luck. I only remember my science portion score on the ACT. Would that be weird if I only put that and not the others? THanks!!
