I was accepted in October and I never received anything. I'm not sure that they do "offer" letters.

Strange! In the acceptance notification I received, they mention an "envelope with the offer letter," so I naturally assumed that I would be getting something in the mail.

I got a big envelope following my acceptance in October with just the letter in it.

In other news after getting into my state school, UNC, I withdrew my application from MCV today. I hope one of you is the lucky one to have my spot! Good Luck!!

so that's what it looks like

I very well might not see it otherwise.

Sorry guys - I didn't post that picture to be rude; I was just interested in hearing from folks as to whether a letter would be arriving and that seemed the best way to show the communication from the school.

FYI - I did receive a letter that was the same as the web acceptance message, as another poster said.

KVO, I'm not upset. Now I know exactly what I'm looking for.

does anyone have any idea of how many acceptances were given out so far? and if so, what the ratio of in state/ out of state acceptances are like to this point? I was looking through mdapps today and it seemed like the bulk of people with acceptances are from in state. is this normal for them?

considering it is a public state school, i would say yes, it is normal for them to have accepted more in-staters. i'm not sure, though, what their ratios are up to now. at my interview last week, dr. whitehurst-cook said they have about 75% percent of the class filled, and the IS-OOS ratio is 65%:35% of the final class. they are increasing their class size to 192 from 184, and the IS/OOS ratios will be the same. there were 6 of us interviewing that day, and 2 or 3 of us were virginians.

that being said, i just want to say VCU was awesome and i'm hoping and wishing and praying for good news... good luck to all!

since march 15th falls on a saturday, do you think they will have friday offerings ala december?

has anyone gotten the email about 2nd look?
i wonder if vcu pays any traveling cost for it??

I just interviewed at VCU and cannot wait for Mar 15th to come around. The longer it's been since the interview, the more unsure I became about how well the interview went. It's horrible! The interviewer practically told me that the class is full now. Unlike other schools, VCU offers just the number of seats available to applicants. They draw people off from the waitlist as people withdraw. Has anyone else been told of the same thing? If this were true, if I don't get rejected outright, I'll be waitlisted.

I interviewed yesterday and Dr. Whitehurst-Cook said the IS:OOS is 55%:45%. I don't know if they keep changing but that's the latest one I've heard.

No, I specifically asked them and they said their last is only about 75% full right now. Since they have 4 offer dates (Oct 15, Dec 15, Feb 1, March 15) it seems they offer about 25% of their class seats on each date. They keep seats open so that people who interview later have a fair shot.

Generally, their class is 184, with 104 IS, and 80 OOS, but I've heard they're increasing their class size to 192 this year with 4 spots going to IS and 4 going to OOS.

Good luck! :luck:

Thanks, luckycharms08 =) What you said makes me wonder why he told me the class is full then. It doesn't sound so good that he said that. I just hope I'm just reading too much into it.

Bump because someone is trying to find this thread

Can I safely assume that if an interview invite wasn't received by now, I won't get one? The status page states that they send out invites through Feb and Feb is over now.

okay.. i have a couple questions
1. When looking at MDapps and SDN, it seems like there are more OOS than IS people accepted to VCU so far. Am i just imagining this?

2. For those of you who have been accepted, when do they start asking you for in-state verification. UVA and EVMS do it when you submit your secondary, but I never got any requests from VCU.

1. MDapps is not a very good sample, for whatever reason. It's numbers are also skewed high. If you look at MDapps VCU students accepted last year, their stats are far higher then the ones published both on the VCU website and in the MSAR book. Bottom line, MDapps is not that reliable.

2. I haven't gotten in yet, so I don't know. Probably after acceptance.

hey, I tried looking for this to no avail...does anybody know that if the committee rejects you post-interview if your online status changes? I believe that the send a snail mail letter, but does the online status reflect said rejection?

it's creeping closer to march 15th and I still have no change online, and I'm wondering if maybe they sent a rejection letter to my house and I just haven't found out about it yet (the parentals are out of town for an extended period of time so I have no idea what's in the mail!).

That's a question I haven't seen the answer to, and I had wondered about that before myself too. People have alluded to hearing that someone had a status change, but I can't recall reading anyone claiming it had happened to them.

When did you interview? And did you receive a status notification saying that your file had been reviewed, and that you are on hold? Or do you still have the interview page? If it's the former, you were not rejected post-interview. If it's the latter, it's possible your file has not yet been reviewed, or that they simply haven't updated the status. I was worried when I had no change from the survey page after interviewing early December for the whole months of Dec. and Jan.! I only received a status page update saying my file had been reviewed 2 days prior to the 2/1 offer date, suggesting to me that they may have reviewed it weeks earlier but only updated the data used to drive the site in bulk right before the offer date.

Thus, they may be doing the exact same thing for those folks that have interviewed and had their files reviewed recently, and may only update the status right before 3/15.

their last day of interviews was march 6. so yeah, sorry, seems like you won't get one this cycle. 🙁

have you been ranked yet? yesterday was the last day of interviews, so i wouldn't be too worried yet. on monday they should make the decision about who will be accepted for the 3/15 acceptance batch. just try to hold out one more week 🙂 but i haven't heard of anyone receiving anything via snailmail, so i don't think that would happen. if you have been ranked, you're probably safe! good luck :luck:

All I know is that they earliest they would have met to discuss my file was this past Monday, so there's a distinct possibility that they haven't finished up with the data yet from that committee meeting. I was just wondering because of the whole parents out of town, not knowing about letters thing.

And I'm surprised that their last interviews were yesterday. They swore to me up and down that the last ADCOM meeting was March 3rd, but apparently not. Weird.

Right now I've got the post-admissions survey on my status page....man, given that I was invited to interview in Oct, this has been quite the drawn-out process.

You might receive the status update email about your file being reviewed as late as 3/14, so try to relax - wouldn't worry too much about not having hear being a sign of a rejection. I'm sure they reviewed my file well before 1/31, which is when I was notified that it had been reviewed. I then logged in on 2/1 to find I had been accepted.

Log into the site on 3/14 after 6. Since this is the last offer date, you should have some status update, whether it's a rejection, waitlist, or an acceptance! You won't get the status update email, though, until after 6 on Saturday the 15th.

Good luck!!! :luck:

Thanks. I'm so nervous! But I've got some exams next week to distract me, at least.

(so, to clarify: they will put a rejection on the online status page come March 15th? or do I need to travel the 100+ miles to my house and dig through the mail? 😛)

According to the message that you will receive once they've updated your file, , the next notification you receive (on the 3/15 offer date), will be to indicate you've been accepted, that you've been placed on the alternate list, or that they will "no longer be considering your file."

I tried to find the screen shot I took that showed this text, but seems I don't have it anymore.

Found it!

Unzip it to view it - I didn't feel like resizing it to fit SDN's constraints.

Thanks for the clarification! I guess this late in the game I don't have to worry so much about getting a letter because they'll just put it online next weekend anyways.

T-minus 8 days...

actually, looking at the 2007 thread, it seems that on 3/15 only people who were accepted got a status update. those who were waitlisted or rejected weren't contacted until ~10 days later telling them what happened.

That's true, but in years before that they told everyone on the same day, whether acceptance, waitlist, or rejection. It's sad that I know that, but I spent way too much time last spring/summer sorting through previous years threads.

In case I don't check in during the next week (It's spring break as of tonight and I'm getting married on 3/15😍) good luck everyone!

Congratulations on your nuptials!

It seems that in last years thread, no one was 100% sure what was going on. I was told to be prepared to wait.
btw-KVO I think I interviewed with you. Was it early dec and snowing?

Yep, sure was! I never got around to sending out an email to our fellow interviewees from that day (that list that was passed around at the end of the day), but maybe I'll do that in the near future.

I keep envisioning them in a big room deciding our fates RIGHT NOW :scared:

i interviewed a few weeks ago, and in the meeting, the dean of admissions said that when our file goes to committee, the status will change to hold. I guess this is the last day the committee meets before the March 15th deadline. If my status doesn't change before today to "hold" does that mean my interviewer didn't submit in time to the committee, and that I can't be reviewed before the deadline, so I willl be destined to rejection or waitlist, but not a March 15th acceptance? Thanks!

Read over the last few pages of this thread. I answered similar questions. If you're still unclear, feel free to ask and I'll try to help.

march 15th is the last offer date. You WILL go to committee before then.

Whenever I think about this coming Friday, I get butterflies in my stomach. Oh gosh. A presentation and an exam before Fri isn't helping to take my mind off of it as you can see I'm still very much on SDN. GL to everyone who's waiting too!

I'm so tired of telling people that i'm not sure where I'm going yet. I hope I get good news this week, but honestly, I'd rather be rejected than put on the waitlist at this point. GL to all waiting. Any more out of staters... where ya from?

this was posted on the status login page:

03/11/2008
Interview slots for the VCU School of Medicine's 2008 entering class have been filled. Therefore we will be unable to schedule any more interviews. We had many more qualified applicants than interview space. We encourage those who are still seeking admission to medical school for the 2009 entering class to apply early and to call for a counseling appointment if necessary.

The wait list for the VCU School of Medicine class entering in August 2008 will be formulated over the next 10 days. If you do not gain acceptance on March 15 and have not been notified of your application being no longer considered, please monitor your status on the website.

Looks like on 3/15 we will know if we are accepted or rejected, but if waitlisted, we'll have to wait a little bit longer to get the official notice for that.

anyone know how those waiting for march 15 will be notified of the status change?

By email too. They'll always inform you of the status change through email though a little later.

I think last year they had to wait to find out if they were waitlisted vs. rejected. So I think only acceptances will go out on the 15th.

this is what i said earlier, but apparently in previous years, everyone found out on march 15th if they were accepted rejected or waitlisted. last year was apparently unusual in that only acceptances were given out on the 15th.

so if this yr is like last yr, than acceptances would be given out on March 15th by status page change. What about those placed on waitlist and those rejected. Will that happen before or after March 15?

most likely, you're going to find out if you're accepted or rejected on march 14 after 6pm. if waitlisted, you'll probably find that out around 2 weeks later.

is there anyone here that was here last year know if there were people passed in february and got the good news in march?
