when they send their decisions out 12/15 or later, do they reject people? or is it either an acceptance or a hold even if you're going to be rejected later

if you're priority score is too low, they will reject you and notify you immediately. If you do not hear anything until 12/15 that is good news. It means an acceptance or a hold. If you are put on hold, you won't be rejected until the start of the new class.

how often does the adcom meet? anyone know?

you mean they reject you right after the committee meets about you? so you can get rejections on other days than 12/15, 2/1 ? and those days are meant for acceptances and holds?

Priority scores range from 1-5 (1 is best candidate, 5 is worst). Each member of the ADCOM gets a vote. They throw out the highest and lowest scores and average the rest. That is your priority score. A score of 3.5 or above is an automatic rejection. Otherwise, you are put on hold until the next set of offers comes out.

The adcom meets every monday. That said, at the busy time of year they discuss candidates from a few weeks back. So if you get an interview in the middle of december, you might not be talked about for a while because of the few week delay plus the holiday break.

Instatewaiter, what would we do without you?

You're so nice to deal with our collective neuroticism!

Well I was once in you guys' shoes so I know how it feels. It's nice to be let in on how things work.

I assume they won't tell you your priority score if you call and ask?

They will never tell you your priority score, even after you are accepted and matriculate. It's just their policy.

soo, if we do hear anything, it will be saturday?

i'll be leaving for christmas in nigeria saturday night so i hope i hear something, otherwise it's going to be a very boring flight!!

good luck everyone!🙂🙂

I interviewed on 12/5, and Dr. Whitehurst-Cook said they were trying to go into the new year with a clean slate, so they were trying to finish up everyone who interviewed for the 12/15 date. Of course, that means we all have to come up for review today! 😱

Good luck to everyone. It's an exciting and nerve-wracking time! 🙂

I hope they let that stuff out early. I'll be out of town from the 15th-23rd 🙁 It would make my vacation a little nicer to know if I'd been accepted to medical school 🙂

When'd you interview?

late October

Yeah, I wonder how they'll do it given that the 15th falls on a weekend. Anyone have any wisdom on that?

BTW, armybound, did you get a message saying you're no hold until the next date, or are you still waiting for a status change?

Their computer systems update on the date that they say, usually around 6 pm. I received my interview invite on a weekend and my acceptance at 6 pm.

To fuel everyone's neuroticism further (myself included), I believe it's technically 6:04PM. 🙂

Yep, it's 603-604pm ET. Which is why I spent most of the summer glued to the computer at that time.

Good Luck!

Did any of u guys get the interview survey thing. I filled it out and I hit submit....but when I go back to my status update it says please fill out the survey...so maybe I didnt click submit and my survey got lost in cyberspace, or this survey just appears again even if u submit?

How long does it take to get that? I still get the interview confirmed screen!

If you already interviewed, u should have received it....bc it updated this past sunday for me.

I see u did interview...umm I dont know how it works exactly then.

That's what I thought, and being an SDN member, it's caused my neuroticism to engage. What could it possibly mean! :scared::laugh:

Maybe u get it once your interview submits his/her evaluation.....thats my wild guess.

anyone get an update today saying that the adcom met and reviewed your file?

No, and I was hovering over my computer around 6PM in case that took place.

Now the question I still don't know the answer to is whether there will be a status change immediately after review indicating a hold until next offer date, or if we'll just wait to the offer date to find that out.

there should be a message sent to you immediately after they review your file and calculate your score stating something along the lines of- the adcom has met to discuss your file. we will let you know oct 15, dec 15, feb, etc.

but- and there is always a but- i think someone wrote earlier that the adcom is trying to review everyone who has interviewed thus far before the dec 15 decision date. hopefully you are included! they might just do one update...with an acceptance!!

does anybody know if OOSers get offers this early in the game? My impression was that most OOSers get waitlisted and then find out later on if they're in or not.

VA state schools are very OOS friendly. many OOS applicants have already gotten acceptances.

Because they dont decide if you are in or not during the meetings, unless you get a 3.5 or above (rejected). They meet, discuss candidates and give them scores.

Right before the next batch of offers they look at all the priority scores and set a point. Below that point (better scores) gets in. Above the point keeps waiting. This point is based on the number of students they want to let in at that time so that point is not set.

So lets say Josh goes to interview in September and goes to committee shortly thereafter. He gets a 2.0 as a score. Well in October they set the point at 1.5. Josh's score is a 2.0 which is above the 1.5 mark. He doesnt get in and gets pushed to the next batch.

In December they let in 1.7. Again he doesnt get in and gets pushed along. Well in January they let in 2.0s. Josh gets in with that January batch.

I wish saturday would just come....but I'm still not sure they will get all of us in. It would be nice to know but who knows what exactly will happen.

When was the last interview before the break? or when will it be?...and when do the interviews start up again anyways?

has anyone heard back yesterday about their file being reviewed? i'm just wondering if i didnt hear anything because i wasn't reviewed yet or if no one received an update email... i interviewed there very very recently

Does VCU give notification if you have been rejected pre-interview? I have been complete since mid-oct and i have yet to receive any news. However, after looking at Mdapplicants, i noticed that some people who were complete several days before me received holds last week. So, i was wondering if this means my application has been rejected or does it mean nothing?

thanks

You would definitely be notified of a rejection pre-interview. Since you haven't been put on hold yet, your file has probably not yet been reviewed by a file screener. Once that happens, you'll either be granted an interview, put on hold with one of the many hold messages described earlier in this thread, or rejected.

Good luck to you.

Since everyone on here seems to get how they work at VCU, any insight for me? I was complete there at the end of August, and on Sept 26th got the status change of "we want to review you again before making a decision". Its now about 10.5 weeks later, and nothing. I'm going to send them an update letter later this week when I get my grades for the semester (3.91 yaaay). However, it seems like at this point its not looking very good for me to get an interview. Am I really just in limbo, or do they just not want to tell me I'm rejected? Do people actually get an invite after having this message for so long with no news? Thanks for reading my long post, and good luck to those of you waiting on the 15th! :luck:

the update letter should help, since they'll see you're still interested.

they've been having a hard time finding enough space in their interview schedule to accomodate everyone.

Thats what the inteview coordinator told me when I called earlier this month, but I'm just worried that I'll never even get put into a pool of possible interviewees. Literally everywhere I have applied that I havent heard from yet still lists me as not being reviewed yet. It's frustrating, as I was complete back in August, and these are rolling rejectors. I just wish they would give me the ax if there is no real hope left.

It sucks because I am very, very interested in VCU. I just cant find anything on these boards of a similar situation, so I have no idea if I should hold out hope or not. It seems like people that got the same message as me got an invite, but they got it pretty soon. Now that the rumors are flying that they are practically out of interview slots, it seems the rules have changed 🙁

when you write VCU with an update let them know why you're so interested in their school.

Yeah, that is on my to-do list for tomorrow since my last final was today. I havent looked it up yet, but if anyone knows, how do they prefer you send it? The letter I mean. Is email ok, I would send a hard copy as back up but that way they would definitely get the email before the holidays. I see that further up in this thread that they dont need official transcripts for the update, thats good cuz I would have to wait an extra week or two to get those...

Well, I was considering sending a hard copy to the admissions office's address that is listed in the MSAR as a backup to make sure the letter at least makes it to my file. If they get two, then maybe they'll just think I'm doubly interested...if you want the address let me know and I'll post it up.

I'm sure an email would be sufficient. What address would you send it to though?
I second the email because it seems like VCU communicates through email primarily. The dean of admissions said that the only letter you'll receive from them is an acceptance letter or rejection letter.
