2009-2010 Grad School Interview Invite Thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
not yet, and from what my poi said i don't think invites have gone out yet (will be sent by snail mail at the end of the month)

good luck!

bummer my UVM POI said he would email me no later than Friday to let me know (he said this after my phone screen interview)... that is POI specific though

did anyone hear from UVM?

so also note that they had a faculty meeting today (on there schedule) so they probably made decisions today. Once my POI emails me I will let yall know (like I said he told me he would let me know one way or the other).

Would you recommend contacting POIs when you haven't heard anything?

Received invite for DePaul via the Grad Coordinator. Interview days are 02/08 or 02/15.

Got an invite tonight from Ohio University to interview (euphemistically referred to as a "visit,") for their clinical program (health focus) 😀. Via email from POI. two dates: 2/19 and 2/26. wow...I never thought it would happen: I'm a lucky basterd:luck:

I've decided that since my birthday is tomorrow, all the schools I'm hoping to hear from will be required to email or call me with good news. This seems perfectly rational to me....

HAHA...I used that rationalization last week...it sort of worked I got one interview invite for my b-day. Happy Birthday 🙂 and good luck :xf:

lol. Agreed and goodluck!!

I know one person has heard from their POI at Vanderbilt...I was just wondering if any others have by now as well? Thanks!

Congratulations! Did you apply to the clinical program? If so, what subspecialty? Also, did you receive the invite via e-mail or phone call?

Ooops...I forgot that information. It was for the clinical child track and it was received via email.

cute! good luck and Happy Birfday !:hardy::

Could the person who got the West Virginia University invite, please PM me her/his POI?

Thank you.

Could the people who got the Harvard and Yale invites please PM me your POIs? Many thanks and good luck!:luck:

Could the lucky people with Yale and Louisiana State invites PM me their POIs? Thanks!!!

I second that, could anyone who received a Vandy invite be so kind as to PM your POI? Thanks!

futureapppsy,

Did the person who got the Yale invite say that there are going to be no in-person interviews this year? Or that there are no in-person interview invites extended as of yet?

Also, not that I was one of the perpetrators, but I'm very sorry that your program choices have been talked about in such a way on here. It's rude and innacurate.... We are all happy that you have gotten so many interview invites! Not to mention incredibly thankful that you are managing this thread!

Received invite for DePaul via the Grad Coordinator. Interview days are 02/08 or 02/15.

Was the invite specific to the child track or did it include the community folk too? I applied to the community track and I am so jealous of you right now!

Is it rude to retract your acceptance of an interview? For instance, if you get accepted to your first choice and you already have interviews scheduled elsewhere, would it be okay to contact the schools where you have interviews and explain the situation? If so, how would you go about doing this?

I would rather have someone else have an opportunity to interview if I do not plan on going to that school. Hope this makes sense!

could the person that got the phone interview from U Minnesota pm me, if they dont want to say their POI thats fine I can say mine. I know they dont do in person interviews, in fact interviews arent necessary at all for acceptances, just wanna see if it was my POI or not 🙂

thanks

I dont think I would contact the POI, maybe the graduate coordinator... unless you have been rejected formally and want to know why, I dont suggest contacting them just in case you might still be under consideration.

If you contact the coordinator and they say something like "All interviews have been sent out blah blah, you will not get one" then I would say go ahead email the POI. Just dont wanna make yourself sound pushier than we already are 🙂

If you know for sure that you don't want to go there, I think it's fine to cancel the interview. Do it in a tactful way, obviously, but it doesn't help you or the school to go through the interview if there's no chance of you attending.

Ditto. Thanks!!!

For those of you who have interviewed in the past (Clinical PhD), could you approximate how many people are invited to interview day?

Thanks!

Just received an email from the UVM DCT inviting me for an official interview. they ask that you come in on Feb 11th and stay through the 13th. Hope some of oyu guys got one too!

Hi Everyone --

I'm coming out of hiding finally and would LOVE to hear from the people who got calls from Catholic. I'd love to know POIs, and would be happy to tell you mine if thats easier. Thanks so much!

Also I saw that someone asked about BU -- I know they met yesterday (insider's tip) so I'm sure they'll start contacting people within the next few days (someone else said the 25th?). Crossing fingers!

Thanks again 🙂

Definitely depends on the school and how many people they plan to admit...

For example, this year Michigan invited 11 people to interview, and there is a rumor that they only have 2 spots... I am interviewing with a specialized program that typically accepts 3 or 4 each year and invited 7.

I don't know that you can "predict" it!

Could the fortunate individual who received an invite from LSU please PM me their POI? Thanks a million!

Wow, this thread is averaging almost 10,000 hits a day now.

I know I'm going to regret this, but would the applicants who received invites for Temple mind PMing me their POI's? Congratulations to all!

Not only is it "okay" but it would be the best route to take; it's the right thing to do. If you have no interest in attending (i.e., you already have an offer from another program that you'd prefer attending; you were only going to interview there as a "back-up"), then you should bail on the interview AND withdraw apps. from other places that also are at the bottom of your list.

This frees up space for others (which is nice for those of us also trying to get in and are super-anxious to boot), but just as importantly it doesn't waste the programs'/professors' time. PLUS, graduate students are often hosting folks, providing transport, etc. To respect their time (grad students are busy, of course) do the right thing and cancel. They'll be a bit disappointed, perhaps, but ultimately very much relieved to alter their plans accordingly.

You can tactfully navigate this by being very appreciative of the invitation but also honest about the fact that you have received an offer from a preferred program. Also explain how you are respecting their time by deciding to withdraw. It would be nice to add something about hoping to see them at a conference or something (they will be a future colleague).

What a nice problem to have 🙂
and
Congrats on the offer!!!

I feel the need to add this caveat ... if you would consider attending after having a great interview experience, then it's okay to keep it on your plate. In other words, if there is a part of you that is open to attending (e.g., if a nice funding package were offered, if the lab space/resources were top-notch, etc.), then it may we worth exploring. Perhaps your interview day would surprise you; you'd love the people, the research, the environment, etc. of course, it sounds like this just isn't a winner for you. e.g., some people would only go to a remote location if no other options existed. if it's something like that, then you should bail.

If the persons with the Depaul and UMinn invites could please PM me, I would deeply appreciate it!

... Can't buy yourself pity cake until you know for certain it's warranted..

After this morning's updates, I decided to email the program assistant at Yale and this was her response:

"Actually we never hold in person interviews. Invites will start by the end of next week. The only date you might need to hold is March 1st, which is the visiting day for invited applicants.
good luck."

Good to know 🙂

Hey everyone

I'm new to this forum, and I apologize for being about 2 weeks behind everyone else! Could those with interviews to Florida State please PM me her/his POI if you feel comfortable? They were in my top four and I'm pretty discouraged!

Thanks!

Great advice! Thank you all for your help! I appreciate it.

Yeah, unless it's something egregious, don't really judge a program until you've interviewed there IMO. It's soooo different.
