I doubt it could be that low. I think they accept something like 300 applicants and a good proportion of that number has to come from the waitlist. (that 300 figure comes from eduers, and I have no clue if they're even slightly accurate:

If it's accurate they probably accept a ton of people off the waitlist. The stats for Buffalo are almost the same, so it's safe to assume that if Eduers is correct then they have similar acceptance rates off the waitlist.
I think someone was saying that Buffalo has such a high number of people accepted off their waitlist because no one wants to go there. I doubt it. If weather is really that much of an issue LI is only slightly different.
The difference is like comparing dying by drowning vs being burned alive. And it's making the assumption that most people have multiple acceptances (I find that unlikely). Rent and living expenses are also much cheaper in Buffalo. Other than that the schools have their own strengths and weakness, and I'd personally say they're pretty equal.
