any word on nycom match list?
The office said we have to wait till May for the list.
any word on nycom match list?
I was just wondering if anybody knew if any D.O. had ever matched at the University of Michigan hospital. I had heard that there hasn't been a D.O. who had matched there yet.
my boyfriend actually just matched there for pm&r. they have d.o.'s sprinkled in here and there. i actually thought there would be more though considering it's michigan...
Both AOA and ACGME Dermatology residencies are PGY 2-4A few reasons:
1. AOA derm matches as PGY-2, ergo you never see derm matches on DO lists, which is part of the misconception that DOs can't be dermatologists.
2. Matching ACGME as a US MD with 260+ step I, great research, and great LORs is still a crap shoot (go look at the derm boards to see the heartbreaking stories of fantastic applicants who still didn't match). Ergo, matching as a DO would be crazy ... let alone two matches from one school.
3. The army is 'generally' considered easier to match for derm than ACGME. This isn't saying much though because it's a huge accomplishment altogether.
... This is why I want to know. Not being offensive, or anything else, simply curious.

Both AOA and ACGME Dermatology residencies are PGY 2-4
but aren't ACGME linked?? IE - you see them on a match list??
They are no necessarily linked in that students who match Derm via ACGME must apply and complete a Prelim Med/Surg or Transitional year prior to starting derm residencies. There are some folks who matched into derm that will be doing internship with me.

Could someone post the PCOM list, please? ... any of the hospitals around there. Thanks! 🙂
If you dont like the program, why should you go there. When i was interview i choose the one i felt the people were nicest and i would get a good exposure to the field. Being at Hopkins is a great name but they may be more research driven then some other places and not suit what the person wanted.
The fact that Baltimore is probably the biggest ****hole in the USA may have also played a role. Good training, but its not the only place that offers good training.
That LECOM match list is really good. They landed some of the heavy-hitter programs in the osteopathic world, including some very competitive fields, and some very good allo programs too. A pair of grads headed to St. Luke's-Roosevelt. It doesn't get much better than that.
Not to be a jerk, but I must be missing something... what's so special about St. Luke's-Roosevelt? It's a large community hospital in NYC full of IMGs. It's not so competitive and it has a lot of "private attendings" that limit the autonomy of the interns/residents and force them to make "office calls" to track down their patient's attending to discuss the plan of care which just eats up their day. Good LECOM list overall, but not so sure about the hype on SLR.
The only St. Luke's-Roosevelt program I really know anything about is EM. One of my friends trained there, and she is one of the best young docs I know.I am assuming that Columbia makes an effort to put out a quality product at all their facilities, however. Maybe the IM program isn't under their umbrella? I really don't know.
But at any rate, they are a big hospital with a diverse patient population. The fact that they are full of IMG's doesn't seem relevant. It seems like it would be a great place to train for just about anything.
Great Match List from Touro Ca like always! Keep up the good work. 👍
Can someone point out some of the great matches in this list? It doesn't seem that impressive but I'm not familiar with Osteopathic residencies (I'm assuming the Orthos are Osteopathic).

How hard is it for a person that goes to a DO school to match into pathology?
My mother is a nurse oncology nurse at rosevelt and she told me that most of the Pathologists seem to be D.O.'s. (hope I have the right hospital, sleep deprived). I don't think she sees many DO's but then again she didn't even know that they were till I told her, because she used to mostly do home care.
Although the location of the hospital is not indicated on the match list, given the large number of EM matches at this site it is likely the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach which has a osteopathic EM program, and not affiliated with the hospital of similar name in NYC.Is it possible to specify which Mt. Sinai program all these matches are at? There is a big difference between Mt. Sinai, and its Elmhurst and New Jersey affiliates.
For EM, St. Luke's-Roosevelt has a much higher patient volume than Presbyterian. It isn't even close.
And my friend who trained there has told me that she isn't aware of an bias against DO's.
I was just wondering if anybody knew if any D.O. had ever matched at the University of Michigan hospital. I had heard that there hasn't been a D.O. who had matched there yet.

Derm is Osteo/AOA-- Oakwood Southshore, Trenton MI
What about LECOM-B Match?![]()
Since it's self-reported, students may have not responded yet.
interesting ... is it med/derm??? Normally derm is reported on the match lists for AOA because it's unlinked transitional year -> PGY 2 derm.
It is a Harvard affiliate. Not MGH. That has a big say. While it is still impressive, we don't know much about the anesthesiology program there. The best programs aren't always what we think of as the "best". I'm sure that person is also a very hard worker.
True it's not MGH, but I talked to him and he said MGH flat out told him they would NEVER take a D.O. I know he had the goods to go there, but it's not gonna happen...at least for now
I wonder if they know about the ones that work there:
http://www.massgeneral.org/search.aspx?q=DO&st=0&x=0&y=0#
That was just a quick search. Not exactly overwhelming numbers, but there's probably more that are incorrectly ID'd as MD's.
People can be so narrow minded and stupid, it's mind boggling.

Ex: Michael Jaff, DO is the medical director (and program director) for MGH's Clinical Vascular Center and fellowship program. On his bio page it shows DO, but the GME page he's listed with an MD.
Maybe he was so good that KCOM gave him an MD degree.
