For those who got hold letters in the mail today, where in Cali do you live? I live in Nor Cal so I'll probably get it tomorrow if you guys are down in So Cal. And did you guys receive an email before you got the letter?

Sigh...I'm still waiting for one too! 😴 Hopefully we get them sometimes next week, although I prefer to be notified early in the week so I can prepare myself. It's a good thing that I live 30 minutes away so I don't have to worry about travel arrangements in the last minute.

I'm pretty sure they will start calling a lot of ppl this week for the last interview... at least that seems to be the trend. Dont forget that some ppl even got called the day before the interview! I am still waiting too....

yea i know. thanks jyw003. I just prefer to stay in southern california since i rather be close to my family. long story. But if i could i would. Unless it was UCSF but other then that i rather stay here in so cal!

It's on March 14th either at 7:30 or 9:30. You have to pick a time. Hope that helps.

i got the inevitable hold letter...no reject! so...that means we all still have a chance haha...as in the words of tim allen from galaxy quest "never give up! never surrender"

That's really hard to believe, unless Western need more time to decide for everybody when all the interviews are over. man..i hate the feeling of waiting for something. guess i have to learn to be patient.

yea..i think they place everyone on hold..and once the march 21st interviews are done...they will either deny/accept/ or place you on the alternate...

I may be incorrect but this is what I understand. A hold and a waitlist are different and have their perks. Hold means they have not made a decision and are basically deferring your application for further review later on. Waitlist means they will offer you a seat in the class if a seat should become available. It's like they accepted you but there aren't any open seats for you in the class. But it also depends where on the waitlist you are, the higher the better.

I say that hold also has its perk because if they review your app and decide you are what they want, you have a chance of being offered a seat and bypassing the waitlist if all the seats haven't been filled yet, or even getting a rejection.

This is correct, but there is only one thing... the alternate list... there is no ranking order. its basically who outshines whomever. so just cause you were alternate from the first interview block, it doesnt mean you are higher in rank than those that interviewed later.

That is what I thought too. So, what do they do with the people on hold for an interview? I know the chances are slim for that pool anyways.

But i read somewhere earlier in this thread that someone called, and Western will NOT be holding an interview in April. March 14 is supposedly the last interview date to my understanding. I would call the school just to double check if youre really worried though.

What would be the purpose of this last interview? A different faculty member asking different questions? Did our interview really determined our admission, I got the feeling that it was more of a conversational style than anything. I thought they took into consideration everything when making the final decision.

They didn't place on hold for an interview, but I'm kind of in a limbo...so I'm just waiting to get a phone call from them until March 14. I was rather curious about the hold pool because someone mentioned that they won't hold an interview session in April.

I wonder if the last min calls have happened to ppl that have to fly in? I know from the info session that I went to in october that ~90% of students accepted are from SoCal... so who knows.

Does anyone know about the health clearance form/physical form that is to be filled out? I can't access the information until accepted to the program, however, I have an appointment with my doctor this week and I'd like to have all screening done now. Specifically does the physical sheet require certain blood tests such as lipid panel, urinalysis, CBC, etc. or is it just a simple form that the dr. fills out saying I'm healthy. I can have the dr. fill this out later, but the bloodwork is usually ordered months in advance. I already know what immunizations I need, so this question is only about the physical.

I just got an interview invite on Friday over the phone, so this means they are still interviewing. I'm turning it down and hopefully this helps someone else. Good luck !

It looks like Western was faced with some very tough choices this year then...I am sure, we are all very well qualified...but it is really up to them to decide who is more qualified in their eyes.

The interview is based on a point system. I know that for a fact. They break it into two parts i believe a communications and a personality portion and they grade you on that from a scale i believe. I do not know the empahsis on both but i know you recieve a score for each section. The profesor's opinion weight on the interview is heavier then the student's input so no need to worry too much about the student. Thats all i know but hope that helps anyone who had an interview already. Im still waiting for one!
