Dominated the final and secured my A, now to relax and head off to Cancun on Friday. With a quick pitstop at a hospital for a job interview on Thursday afternoon 😀

Awesome job!!! You are so lucky getting to go to Cancun before our interview in Florida. It's like you get two vacations in one! And I am sure that you will get that job! Then a week later you will get your acceptance... The next few months are going to be good for you, I can feel it. 🙂

So I am at a fork in the road about what to do with all of these out of state interviews... After getting the one in Tennessee yesterday I was thinking when a good stopping point would be. I mean, I cant go to every out of state interview I get! That would be really crazy expensive. Should I just wait til I get one OOS DO acceptance that I want to really attend, like AZCOM, and pay the deposit to hold my spot just in case none of the schools in Texas admit me? I am thinking if I get a few more interviews by October, I may cancel my LMU interview... Hopefully it will go to one of you guys! I love the school alot, but I don't know how many more days I can take off of work and how many more flights I can take... Out of the next 4 weeks, I am taking off 2 Thursdays and 3 Fridays! Thats like a day or two off a week! Kind of crazy! I mean, I still get paid (salary), but I eat into my vacation time, and I just plain feel bad about taking off since some of my research has to be covered when I am gone...

I also don't want to take away spots from people that really want to attend some of these schools! I guess this is a good problem to have, but it actually makes me feel like I have too much going on right now! Stressful...

Personally, if I have not gotten an Acceptence from any schools I would actually be willing to attend, I would go to every single interview for every single school that I would like to attend (better safe than sorry). The moment I get accepted to any of the schools that I'm acutally willing to attend, then I would be more selective on what interviews I would go to. but thats just me though.

Yeah, I think you are absolutely right, really great advice... I mean I will go to the LMU interview if I don't have an acceptance for sure, but I think I will have one by then... Hopefully! I have 3 interviews before it, so I think the odds are good. Maybe!? I hate this unpredictable process. 😱

Who would've thought getting too many interviews would be a crisis! haha

But yeah wolverine is right. Although... I'm not sure how long it takes after the interview for schools to tell you you've been accepted. With your ECs it'd be hard for any school to turn you down, so I'd expect that you'll be getting some acceptances soon!! 🙂

If I were you, depending on how your interviews go through LMU's, I'd stop it at that if expenses are becoming dangerously high. It's risky, but since you're so early in this process you're bound to get in somewhere!!

Let me know how the TX Lubbock interview goes! I hope to get an interview invite from there soon :xf:

Haha, I don't think its that hard for them to turn me down... There are plenty of good applicants out there. It seems like LECOM gives acceptances within 10 days and AZCOM within two weeks. DO schools are quick! Texas could learn a thing or two from them...

I will let you know how Lubbock goes! I am super excited and still a little in shock about it. I got my plane ticket, but they said that staying with student hosts is the way to go, so I am waiting to hear back on who my assigned student will be... Don't worry about Texas school invites, its all a waiting game over here. They know they can make you wait and you will still attend no matter how many other acceptances you have. Those sneaky sneaks... You will get one in due time Im sure!

Ohh that's good to hear. I'm hoping to hear back from LECOM soon then!

Yeah TX definitely makes this process stressful! As if it wasn't already stressful enough. Oh well, at least we have NASA...and... oil, amiright amiright?! 😉

It seems like LECOM did a big rush early in the season then is taking its time on the second batch. I turned them in several weeks ago and am still waiting to hear anything from them. Cross fingers!

Nice! Did your email say you were complete?

Do you have anything next to "College Ltr of Recommendation?"

I don't have anything there... Is that were your deans letter went?

There was a date next to "College Letter of Recommendation"..marked as received..(08/16) 😛

That's where dean's letters went. I'm complete also.

Sounds good. Thanks, man. I was worried for a minute, because they inputted all my letters on the day I submitted my deans/advisors letter under the other letter section, so it was too coincidental and I thought it would be a good thing to check.

I also agree with Wolverine, you can't start canceling interviews until you have your preferred acceptance in hand. When is your TX interview, btw?

Dude, I wish I was from Texas when it comes to medical school applications... You guys have it made! I feel bad for the Canadians. haha.

My Tech interview is on Sept 10th! At least the interviews are only a few weeks after the invite! Makes the wait a little easier. But Texas has this odd rule... They can't extend any offers of acceptance until November 15th, and this only goes until December 31st. So that’s when most of them go out. And then if they don’t accept you by that day, you will likely be waiting until the "Match" day on February 1st.

The worst part of getting accepted on match day is if you have multiple interviews without acceptaces, you only get accepted into the school that you list as your first choice (if they accept you), so you will really never know what other schools you would have been accepted to... I kind of want to know my options upfront before I decide which is my first choice!

I guess it’s a little weird being a Texas resident... I feel like every out of state school I applied to is a "safety" school for me. I don’t mean it like I feel like the schools out of state are easier to get into, I mean that getting into one would always feel like my back up plan if nothing in Texas pans out... Sounds kind of bad. Haha. 😛

I feel the same way! I guess since we have so many medical schools in state, and TX has a huge instate bias... TX residents have their best shot at medschool with a TX school.

Who knows!

Wow. I had no idea Texas schools do a match. At least you get to list the order, but it is a shame you don't get to know which ones actually accepted you, but in the end it doesn't really matter.

You are racking up the interviews this year! But, don't stop going until you know for sure. In the end, the cost will be worth it.

@ dbdan: congrats on killin that final! enjoy ur trip man.

@ noshie: i definitely agree with what everyone else is saying about going to the interviews until u get an acceptance. should probably prepare for the worst case scenario which would be realizing at the end of the cycle u have no acceptances and thinkin what if i went to that interview....

but no time to be negative, im pretty sure you're gonna get in somewhere 🙂

PCOM's secondary application are "brief" statements about why PCOM, why DO. Really subjective question, but how long, give or take, is a "brief" essay? 😕

Mine was about 3/4 of a page, but "brief" is a fairly subjective term.

Fellas, where are you getting your suits from? Any idea about what price range/brands/style I should be looking at? I also hear getting it tailored is ideal but I'm sure that must be expensive.

Fellas, where are you getting your suits from? Any idea about what price range/brands/style I should be looking at? I also hear getting it tailored is ideal but I'm sure that must be expensive.

I got one from Men's Warehouse. They usually have really great deals... I think recently they had "Buy 2 suits, get 1 free", which is pretty darn good! You can also go to any typical mall store like Maceys and get some suits for around $250-$300.

As far as tailored though, it depends. Usually the cost for getting it fitted and for the quote is free. The actual tailoring may be anywhere from $20-$40 depending on what type of tailoring you need.

This is at least the experience I had in purchasing suits. There may be better deals out there!! You should call around and ask for any special deals that may be going around. 🙂

Just a heads up... my premed committee said that the best suits for medschool interviews are dark colored suits with a light inside shirt. I dunno if there's any truth behind this, but they usually know what they're talking about. lol

You have to get your suit tailored, man. An untailored suit can look sloppy, baggy, or too tight. None of which are a good thing. A tailored suit is a sharp suit. It's a night and day difference. I would say only buy one suit and have it tailored over buying two and not getting either tailored.

In terms of where to buy, I think you can find good suits at most dept. stores, Men's Warehouse, and some smaller men's stores (expect to pay more at these though).

I picked mine up from Foley's (maybe it's Macy's now... I don't remember). But I might go get another 1 and go for quality. That will give me 3 good suits. You'll need your suit for residency interviews and later in your career, so you might as well buy a good one now (unless you plan on ballooning in med school).

Even if you don't plan on buying at an expensive retailer, you can go into one and act like you're going to, then get the lowdown on fit, style, etc. and go buy one for less somewhere else. 😉

guess it depends on the fit. i tried mens wearhouse where they had a 50% off deal but the suits ended up lookin too boxy for me.

just checked out banana republic today and their tailored suits were perfect for my fit.

and +1 on the tailoring.

Congrats to anyone who got CCOM love today. I had no such luck. I'll be heading to Cancun tomorrow morning and probably won't be on here much or even have a phone to check to get interview calls! uh oh. Definitely not going to be on SDN till next Wednesday night when I'm back in the states though. Hopefully I come back to everyone getting interview invites (hopefully me included lol)

A $150 correctly tailored will look better than a $1000 untailored suit. Make sure you get a suit and get it tailored right. It may take a bit to tailor it so get on it now if possible.

One word for you J Crew. By far the best suit for the buck, slim fit, almost european cut. It is worth the extra about $100 from all these other discount buy one get 3 free bull. All other suits i've tried have been dumpy. Here is a link to those suits (I like the Ludlow line).

Tailoring is a must, and make sure you find a tailor that has good reviews. If you're willing to make the drive down to Costa Mesa, I can recommend a great tailor.

Get an outfit that is conservatively colored. Dark grey and black suits are two safe choices, along with a white shirt, and a dark blue or red tie. Stick with a two-button or three-button suit, but a two-button suit is better IMO unless you're really tall.

Look around. Try on suits at different stores to see what you like (Zara's, Brooks Brothers, Macy's, etc). They don't have to fit perfectly, except around the shoulders, since you're going to get it tailored. There is a guy in LA that makes great bespoke suits for around 500. If you want to go that route, let me know.

I say you teach'em a lesson and write a 20 page essay! j/k don't go above the 1 page mark

👍x10 I think I got all the suit advice I'll ever need. I'll check out Macy's, Men's Warehouse, Zara's, Brooks Brothers, and Hollywood Suit Outlet (heard em on the radio). I'll look to get a dark gray or dark blue two-button and definitely get it tailored. Kuan, I'm digging the Euro look of those but they're just too expensive for what I'm looking to spend right now. I'm gonna keep it under $200 for this suit and probably drop more on my next one down the road when my body isn't fluctuating so much from working out and whatnot. Sin, do you know any tailors closer to LA? And how much is a reasonable price to tailor a suit including pants?

Sorry man, I don't know of any closer to LA, but check out Yelp for a tailor with high ratings.

My "interview suit" was about $100 to get it tailored. I completely agree with Sin, you have to be careful with tailoring, so get reviews and don't go for the cheap deal. Think about it this way, if you save $50 buck on your tailoring and the tailors jack it up, you will be at the store to get another suit or dropping some serious cash to get your mangled one refit.

Happy suit shopping. Oh, and you should get a shirt and tie when you are buying your suit, because you'll have the suit with you, and you can easily match colors.

dude, its Nordstroms, if you don't like it you just have them fix it! FOR LIFE!!!

No one responds in the LOR thread so, I'm gonna post it here:

for the LORs does the letters have to have our AACOMAS ID, cuz my damn schoo's career center (I know I should have used interfolio, but my ******* didn't!) charges freaking 5 dollars per letter to just add the damn ID to each letter! so if don't have to include it it would save me a lot of money!!! ucla career center blows! any ideas?

So... I finally got the KCUMB secondary! But now that I have more interviews then I know what to do with right now, I have decided that I am not going to fill it out. Ick. I really wanted KCUMB too! However, the last few months have been tight as far as money, and by the time I would get the KCUMB interview I would be as broke as a joke...

I got another interview yesterday from DMUCOM... Thats three interviews in a row this week! It's good, but it's also bad. That means that I am basically taking off a day or two a week up until mid October now. Wish I wasn't working during all of this!

But I am still hoping for an early AZCOM acceptance after my interview next month since I just realized that my husband can transfer out there and get his clinical lab scientist degree. It would be the best fit for both of us.... I didn't realize just how stressful this cycle would be until yesterday. I seriously want to vomit from stress.

did they fit u like how it looks online? maybe its my build, but for some reason it didnt look as slim cut as i thought it would be. BR's tailored suit is similar but definitly looked more slim fit when i tried it

just got the KCUMB too and was debating whether to fill it out or not since ive lost all motivation to work on secondaries at this point. and congrats on the invite!

Congrats Noshie!

I seriously want to vomit from stress.

I feel the SAME way. I'm so worried that my interviews are spread out enough that if I get acceptances, I'm going to be putting down MULTIPLE deposits, which is going to HURT. 🙁 Like, my top choices will have interviews coming later.
:barf:
I want to cry and throw up.

I am a bigger build and they have been the only suit that actually fit me well without looking boxy. Just make sure you size it out right before you order.

Congrats on DMU!

I just met someone that did the clinical lab scientist degree (In AZ I believe) and she said that her entire class had a ton of job offers coming out of it. She apparently does very well with her job, but has to travel a lot for work (different clinical sites), so that would be an awesome program from the sounds of it. She also said that companies are constantly trying to offer her incentives to leave her current company and go work for them. This is a good sign for future students/professionals in the field.

just got the KCUMB too and was debating whether to fill it out or not since ive lost all motivation to work on secondaries at this point. and congrats on the invite!

Dude, she's sitting on a ton of invites, so she can start to be more selective. I don't remember what your stats are, but KCUMB is a good program and the secondary is only $50. Just get it done! I'll tell you what. I'll mail in the Touro - NV secondary I have sitting on my desk (been complete for a few days, but wasn't sure I wanted to submit it) if you submit your KCUMB.

Congrats Noshie!

Yeah, that is tough. But at least most schools are giving you the largest amount of time to make a decision at this point. Later on your time is going to be halved...

How about my situation. I only have 1 interview scheduled and will likely need to make that deposit, because I won't be able to interview at any other place prior to the deposit due date... Now that's frustrating.

It's a good field of study, you can probably pick each others' brain fo info throughout your careers as well.

I think this will end up happening to me too! And there are some DO schools that rank high on my list, but the interviews I have received are not all on my top schools list. Though I might change my mind after attending. And, the LMU interview is a two hour drive from the airport... I hate driving. I think I need to be a little more open minded right now, I am complaining too much about such good things... Someone slap some sense into me please! :slap:

Plus all of the travelling expenses! I was going to use my dads flight benefits but I really don't want to risk it on something so important, so I have been buying my tickets full price. Ugh. I forgot how much it is to fly nowadays! Geez...

Thanks on the grats! Yeah, I think this will be a great career for him. He already has a BS in Biol, but he really can't build a career on that... This will be a very stable job, and he can do this anywhere if we have to move for my residency and such. I think he is excited about it, though sometimes I wonder... Haha. Boys just don't get all excited and stuff like girls do.

It is nice being with someone in a similar field! Good conversations. Though, he was retaking Biol II this last semester and he kept trying to talk to me about plants... Yeah, Um... 😴 I never care about plant biology, nor will I. Had to point him to Wiki. Haha.

I wish I could stop wasting my limited vacation time obsessively checking my email and sdn to see which schools have started handing out invites. This is as bad as my spring break week when my mcat score came out. felt like I wasted a day obsessing about it.

Luckily, I was able to get interviews at 2 of my top rated schools within days of each other. Now if I could schedule Nova :xf: around the same time it would be perfect. I don't know which school is my top choice - I'm waiting to see them and get a feel for the school.

I don't feel too bad about not getting a LMU invite yet - mainly because of how dang expensive it is to get there and the distance from an airport. I'd still like to schedule one later in the cycle in case my other schools don't accept me though.

did they fit u like how it looks online? maybe its my build, but for some reason it didnt look as slim cut as i thought it would be. BR's tailored suit is similar but definitly looked more slim fit when i tried it

I am a bigger build and they have been the only suit that actually fit me well without looking boxy. Just make sure you size it out right before you order.

true, the jacket fit perfect but the pants were still kind of wide. but it def is a nice suit

All the "why us" questions suck... Nice, man! I'm glad you're liking it. I got sidetracked from reading it, but am planning on finishing it up this weekend.

Just curious, did anybody get any rejection notices pre-supplemental for DO schools? I know MD schools often do but I'm not sure about DO.
