This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Haha! I AM hard at work on secondaries. ALMOST done with ALL of them.

I'm ready for another invite.

I called and bugged the DO about my letter which is STILL not done. He agreed to write it in MAY!!! I really NEED that letter. Any advice? Should I just keep being a squeaky wheel?

Seriously! I'm still waiting on the stupid recommendation letter from my ochem professor. I asked her back in March and she still hasn't done it yet. And now she is nowhere to be found (probably on vacation)!!!!!!!!! Luckily I found one LOR that my physics professor wrote for me one year ago (very generic though 🙁). BUT at least my applications are complete and I will turn in the third science letter later if they don't reject me by that time..lol

Maybe you can try sending him some chocolate-dipped fruits...

Thanks for the replies guys 🙂

I guess I won't submit my secondaries for those schools, but good luck Dan

Thanks. If you can get the required forms done with MSUCOM I don't think its a waste of money. The application is VERY VERY in depth and it is difficult to complete unless you still have access to your letter writers and they are willing to fill out some forms. However, they do accept OOS applicants and their secondary is actually in leiu of an interview. They have some disclaimers about your app not being reviewed, etc. so make sure your stats are competitive for them if you consider applying. They also have OOS only scholarships that make your tuition equivalent to in-state

UMDNJ's 90% in-state from what I hear is misleading as almost anyone could get in-state tuition and residency there according to some past applicants. It is definitely in-state biased but so is every public school. Who knows, I've already submitted and because of my LOR situation couldn't do MSUCOM's secondary anyway. I would have loved to have been able to go there but I feel like my GPA would have gotten my application tossed anyway.

What do you mean that their secondary is in lieu of an interview?

MSUCOM doesn't interview except for some OOS students who are on the border for admission. They accept/waitlist/reject you based on your secondary app for the most part

Ooo I didn't know that. Thanks!

has anyone heard back from west virginia's osteopathic school? i think they only offer secondaries to interview invites...i'm still pending for them.

Here's a question:

what would look better: I already have a DO LOR, I can get another one from an MD or possibly another DO. (since both have asked me to write them an outline either way its gonna be a good LOR). should I go with the MD or the DO?

Trying to finished up the Touro-NV secondary and have a question about the work-experience part of the app....

Is it JUST health-care related work that they want to know? Or the standard work-experience question??

Thanks!

do you guys think it's okay to cut/paste some stuff from the works/activities list in the primary into the essays for the secondaries? i phrased a lot of my research/volunteer stuff pretty well in the primary and iono how to rewrite it in the secondary essays without making it worse lol

I wouldn't recommend that. It sounds like some people think it's ok, but you should really at the very least rephrase it.

Its not for this thread but why not get both? Emphasize different things in each outline and they'll write it? Or do they work together?

Man, Touro-NV's secondary is so ****ing stupid. Hardly any space to write in work/volunteer experience. Why even bother?

[EDIT]Not liking the CC authorization form either...something about sending all the info someone would need to blow up my credit card hundreds of miles with the USPS bothers me.

Yeah, after checking out their secondary I'm not sure if I'm going to submit it after all...

I think you can fax your stuff as well.

It says you can attach a page for more space. I just wrote "see CV" in the responsibilities, etc. and attached my CV.

You can send a check instead of CC auth. You could also fax it.

That's a good idea. I might do the same.

Damn! That dude is draggin'! I thought we discussed a little chocolate ransom? Did you lose your nerve? 😛

I would be sure he knows that now your applications are being held up, even if that's not exactly the case. I would go with something like:

"I just wanted to follow-up with you in regards to the letter of recommendation we discussed back in May and wanted to see when it will be available for me to submit it to medical schools? At this point my applications have all been paid for and processed, but are awaiting your letter to make them complete. I appreciate you letting me know and thank you again in advance for writing me a letter of recommendation, because it is an extremely important part of the medical school application process."

That's what I would say. It's just enough WTF you should get this in ASAP and if you don't you have put me in a really tough spot to get the job done. I am willing to guess you'll have your letter within the week if you send something like that. 😉

You should just have them both write one since you are writing the outline anyway. That way you can send the MD letter to MD programs and the DO to DO programs.

u guys think only having a DO letter is gonna hurt me with the MD schools?
or is there a double standard?

I think the same way where DO schools prefer a DO letter before an MD, an MD school would probably like to see MD letters.

I don't believe MD schools place as much emphasis on that. I only have a DO letter and I have one DO interview and one MD interview.

any of you guys still with secondaries pending deciding not to complete them>?

im feelin guilty not completing the few secondaries i have left. its prolly not considered early anymore at this point

Yeah, I still have a few in my inbox that I'm not sure I'm going to submit... I'll know more tomorrow at about this time when my new MCAT comes out, but if it's not good, I'm done with secondaries.

Oh snap! Guess tomorrow I'll be handing you your invitation to the 30+ club 😎

ARG....is it going to be another slow week for hearing back from schools?

You guys have been extremely helpfull so far and I would like to thank you sincerely. I do have a few more questions that I was wondering if you guys could answer for me.1) this past wednsday I have started recieving secondaries. I have submitted the simpler ones such as the LECOM's and Nova last week and just submitted KCOM's today. my lor's are were shipped today to all kcom and nova(lecom asks for them when only if you are requested an interview) How soon is too soon to call and ask if they have recieved everything? I was thinking of calling on friday to NOVA and KCOM and asking if they have all of my materials. is this too soon?2)I have recieved GA PCOM's application and it says that official mcat scores must be on file and that the ones listed on AAMC' are not official. So this means I have to go on the tHx site and send the scores to PCOM GA? im assuming this is what I have to do. This is very simple but I want to make sure this is what they want of me and figuered I would try SDN before I call them. Also I have MCAT scores pending from sitting for the exam the 13th of this month. If I have to submit official scores from aamc should I wait the 3 1/3 weeks until thier up? or should I send them and then update them with new scores? ok I know this is all confusing and im sorry. just a little scatter brained from finishing 2 secondaries today 1 of which was my first essay.

You release the MCAT score to AACOMAS. They take care of forwarding it to all your schools.

I've read through 17 pages of this thread trying to find the secondary prompts for A.T. Sill and Rocky Vista with no success. Can someone please point them out to me? Thanks

Don't feel guilty! If you don't want to do them, and you have a ton done already, then just don't... But you just have to remember that it's like the lottery... If you don't play, you can't win. 🙂

So... I think I have decided not to do the last MD secondary I got the other day for University of Miami. They just don't accept many out of staters, and I really really don't think I can fake my way through another "why do you want to go here" essay. Just thinking about writing one makes me want to vomit... Ugh.

The only secondary I will do from here on in is the KCUMB one, and that is if I ever receive it!!! If the University of Arizona decides to take me off hold and give me a secondary I might do that one too. But for the most part I think I am done with essays and secondaries for this cycle. It's just been too much and I don't have the motivation to do another essay.

I think I do need to get some motivation to do some letters of interest for the Texas schools sometime soon though. Maybe by October if I don't have any interviews in Texas by then...? Does this sound too soon? I have heard a lot of people say that these schools respond well to letters like that. If I have an out of state acceptance by then, I think I can muster up some courage to write these letters, it's not like I will have anything to lose!

hey just confirming lecom has no essays correct(the one in erie)?

Yea, I totally understand..I still haven't finished Western's secondary yet..

yeaaa western's was the easiest one to do!

haha jk..but yea i kno how you feel zeta, westerns took me forever to do especially for the oregon campus. i def wrote one of my worst secondary essays for that one

Get on it, last year they had a 30 day response time before your application was no longer considered. It probably doesn't look good if you take too long to submit it. Their essays aren't particularly difficult, just moderately time consuming.

so true, i keep tellin myself that each secondary i send is another opportunity but i just cant do it! ive been tryin to search for a legitimate reason others have for not doin there's so i could convince myself too - like if a school has a heavy instate acceptance.

and the main reason i cant bring myself to do the last two i have is because of the "why our school" question so i def feel u on that one.

as far as the letters of interest, i saw someone on the MD threads who basically stated that the reason she got into the UCs was because the admissions staff saw her persistence through her letters of interest. she had her letter of interest on her profile but i forget who it was

i think what i need to do is take a week off and not even think about this stuff but man, i cant even afford to do that since i gotta prepare for interviews

Thanks. On another note, I just got verified in 7 days. I thought it takes 4-6 weeks? Not complaining, but damn I've got to get a DO letter ASAP

I'm with you on that. I'm going to submit two, maybe three, more secondaries and I'm done. Then I'll just wait for interviews... Hopefully I'm not waiting too long though. haha.

I'll search around for it. If I remember correctly it basically stated her status of her application, why the cirriculum was good for her personally, student groups she liked, she was from socal so she included that and then addressed whatever the deficiency was in her application that she felt was holding her back from getting the interview.

Pretty standard LOI

Congrats Noshie!! My TMDSAS is still being processed but I hope I get an invite from TX Tech soon!

Quick question about CV's... I know they can see what coursework we have taken from our transcript/application, but is it a good idea to put the relevant courses to our major/minor on the vitae?

Thanks!

I hope everything went ok with MightyMoose..Hmm..He is probably out celebrating :meanie:

I wouldn't, but that's all personal preference.

Haha. Bah. No celebrations here. Same score as last time, but a more preferable breakdown... So all is not lost and maybe something was gained... Who knows.
