I should probably just email the admissions office, but before I pester them I was curious to see if anyone in SDN-land had any input; the school I've done my post-bacc coursework at is on the quarter system and has just two quarters of Orgo lab to accompany three quarters of lectures (which I've already taken.) Does this sound like it fulfills the lab half of the requirement?

As I understand it, if you've received an LOR request and II, they've already checked that you've completed the pre-reqs.
 
...others received a 'claification of pre-req' e-mail before receiving an LOR request. That is why I assume you've passed that check.
 
rejection after LOR received letter on 8/2.... 🙁 I guess I knew it was coming. Good luck everyone:luck:
 
rejected. sucks, was one of my top choices too.

oh well, off to a regular day.

LOR Request: 7/27; LOR Received: 8/2; Rejected: 8/18. Stats: 3.8/36, multiple publications etc. Good luck to everyone still in the running :luck:
 
I can't shake this nagging feeling that I just threw away 100 dollars.

Not since the request for additional information (it was a 1 sheet form) and evaluation forms to send recommenders. I hope they don't mind the evaluation forms being really late, I had to constantly badger my writers to get the first letter in :- /

lol same here. I just asked my professors to fill out the rating form...
 
Is Rochester a really expensive place to live?

I was looking at the MSAR last night and I noticed that while Mayo tuition is pretty low for a private school (plus 100% financial aid 🙂 ) the estimated living expenses is something like $32,000 per year! 😱

Most med schools list it as below $20,000 though I've seen it up to $25k at schools in more expensive cities...

I'm not sure about the cost of living, but don't all schools offer 100% financial aid? If loans won't pay my way through medical school, I'm screwed!
 
well 100% of mayo students receive financial aid, as opposed to 75 or 87% or whatever it is at schools where parents pay for their kids to go to med school or someone's won the lottery.

Either way, I don't think thats a very significant figure. Their average indebtedness is quite low as well though.

Anyway though, $32k per year in living expenses??
 
rejected. LOR request 7/14. at least they're straight with us early in the game instead of stringing us along. best of luck to the rest of you!
 
Regarding expenses:

Living in Rochester is NOT expensive. Rent for single apartments is around $700 and for doubles it's less per person. I pay $650/mo for a highrise condo downtown shared with one other person, newly remodeled, etc (very nice living).

The financial aid budget has lots of "extra" money built in, and the reason for that as explained by financial aid is to accommodate students with families or other obligatory expenses. My total expenses/budget for the year are around $50,000 total (not factoring in financial aid/scholarship) and not ~65,000 as the budget states.

well, no news from Mayo since 7/6 LOR Request....
I guess no news isn't the worst thing possible?
 
I think there hasn't been news in about a week...i bet there will be some more interviews in emails early this coming morning...i received the LOR received email on 8/2 which said 3 weeks...so we're almost at that mark. LOR request was 7/15 (but i assigned my letters in AMCAS that day). good luck tonight! :xf:
 
also, regarding financial aid...i went to professional school (don't ask) in a similarily priced area and lived on about 1300/month (for rent, food, transportation)...granted, i hardly went out to dinner but i hardly felt deprived either...currently, i'm living on a lot more than that (bc i work full time) but don't expect cost of living to be more than 1500/month in rochester.
advice for wherever you may go: take out as little loans as possible...it adds up! i saw people take out extra loans so they could live on 2-2.5K/month and they ended up with more than twice my debt once interest was factored in...the majority of stafford loans accrue compound interest while you're in school so taking out 10K is more like 13K at the end of 2 years and probably 16ishK after 4 (ouch!).
 
Hmm just got a LOR request a few minutes ago. Still find that strange that they need to send that email...

I am surprised and humbled! I thought I was done for since the 7/13 group got invites last week, so stay hopeful!

Invite came last night!!! Amazing. Now I know why people say it is an honor just to be nominated. They don't make that up.

Im still waiting! this is crazy! i got the email on 8/2 saying 3 weeks. they are really using every day of that. I sent my LORs on 7/ 8

I am not going to be happy if after all this wait i get a rejection. I would have liked that 3 weeks ago haha
 
Just got the LOR received e-mail. I got the LOR request on 8/15 so I was pretty happy with how fast they got them processed. I was expecting a really long wait to hear back from them again.

I totally agree with you. Hopefully we will receive an invite next week and not a rejection! Let's try to have a positive outlook! 🙂

No I think next week would be too soon. I don't think we should freak out if we don't hear anything by 1:32AM CST on 08/23. If it is September and we haven't heard anything I think it would be okay to inquire on our status.

Think positive! All of us cool cats are going to be classmates, all 20 or so hanging out on the thread who get IIs! 😎

I can't say how happy and excited I am for you - this just goes to show that you can never give up hope until you get a rejection!
 
Interview Invite today! Will add more insightful information about my timeline at a later point..
 
did you receive a LOR received email before the interview invite?
 
Do any current students have advice on the transportation options? I'm trying to decide between the shuttle and rental car--the price is about the same, and I'm mainly concerned about timing. (My departing flight it just after 7PM on interview day.) Do the shuttles ever run late? Or is parking near campus (or a student host's apartment) going to be a huge hassle?

I have a question for any current students.

I know the dress attire is business, but what does that entail? Do you wear suits at the clinic? What do you wear to class (no jeans, business casual)? Do you ever wear a white coat? How many suits do you (and your female classmates) have?

I must admit, I do love a white coat.
