High priority waitlist! Interviewed 3/7. Is there significant movement on this

Has anyone who interviewed on 3/6 heard back at all yet?

Jeeze the wait. I just wish I knew how many people are on the HP list and where I stand on it. Oh how the wait continues!

Eeee and don't hate me guys...I've been scared to make the call. Promise promise I will withdraw tomorrow. A million and one four leaf clovers to my sdn'ers🙂. (I'm really corny)

same here....def not takin it all....sigh at student loans....

btw, tuition is raised from 27K to 29.5K now. 3 years ago I thought it was so cheap and manageable at 18K. 🙁

Hey just curious if anyone who interviewed on 2/29 has heard back yet.

I'm going to be heading out to Syracuse later today for their 2nd Visit Day, but have yet to receive confirmation/an agenda for the day. Am I alone, or did you guys also not get anything?

Also, if someone wants to pick me up from the Amtrak station, I totally wouldn't mind 😀

See you there!

See you there!

If you drive on 81-S, there maybe a line to exit Adams/Harrison street (exit 18). Other than that, I don't think there will be traffic.

How was the 2nd look day?

My personal opinion: It was very informative and made me like my decision for applying to Upstate 10 months ago. And Syracuse was more attractive than what I remembered from my interview day: got to love the view from the top floors of Geneva tower! (I want that room :xf:) Although I did find a few cons, overall it's a positive review from me.

Who was it that recognized me through sdn yesterday?

Definitely more informative than during Interview day. I guess on interview day it was all about me impressing them than the other way around. Plus if they reveal all info, then there wouldn't be anything left to say on 2nd Visit Day now, would there? 🙂

So after registration, we were welcome by Director of Admissions.

Then Student Affairs dean talked about the support system provided for students. She emphasized that each students will have 5 advisors (can't remember all the titles) including a student advisor (upperclassman), academic advisor, specialty advisor,... Another emphasis was that all students are in this together and work together to succeed (tight knit community).

Then Dr Stearns (she'll be teaching summer anatomy) talked about Community Outreach and Global Health. There're plenty of free clinics and outreach programs that will provide students opportunities to interact with real patients. There're also trips/activities that has global focus (currently Haiti). Here's the link to the flyer:

She also mentioned that you can even organize your own trip for global health.

Then Director of Campus Activities (CAB) talked about their department. Basically there's life outside school. The CAB tries to organize events, entertainments, trips (monthly) for students. For example, the once a month Spring Coffeehouse series (free coffees, dessert, music performance), Upstate Comedy ($5 charge) during happy hour (wings, nachos, pizza, beer/wine avail. for purchase). He also mentioned some trips to Disneyland and white-water rafting trip (got me excited there 😀). There're also many student organizations. A gym (swimming pool, sauna, weight room, treadmill, elliptical, squash & racquetball court, ...). The school is pretty close to Marshall street, which has quite a few restaurants, shops, bars, and whatnot.

Then we got a tour of the anatomy lab, and clinical skills lab (with more in-depth explanation about standardized patient)

Then we had a student panel. Mostly talked about study habits (all lectures are recorded and online; lecture attendance is not required except for MLC; find what works for you). Talked about housing options (clark/geneva furnished and have everything but more expensive; jefferson/madison not furnished and cheaper but long wait to apply; or rent house/apartment a few miles off campus). Talked about grades (pass/high pass/honor; some class pick say top 15% for honor, some class pick if you're above certain percentage you get honor, so it depends on the class; 70% is consider passed except for MCL requires 75%). I believe they also said notes are provided so you don't need to buy text books.

Then we went over the curriculum. Here's the link to the DRAFT curriculum
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-tXk6nOVaRTbDZRT1o2WXNRa1NSMXB6Wnh0aVF4UQ
(the first row is month-year, second row is unit number, third row is the number of weeks)

Then Interim dean talked about the LCME probation. He talked about the history of LCME giving out probations and/or warnings in the past 8 years. He promised that this issue definitely be resolved. They now hire a person whose job is just making sure they're LCME compliant. Positive changes are happening to achieve better governance. I did ask him about the future of tuition increase and he said that it's not their decision to increase tuition. It's up to the SUNY system to decide on tuition. So, with the economy recovering 🙂xf🙂, hopefully it won't go up. Here's the breakdown on tuition and expenses:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-tXk6nOVaRTQUJOZ0ozdnFUei1JczdwNjhaVTdOZw

Then we had lunch 👍 (pretty good food) and walked around exhibitor tables to learn more about the clinical campus, financial aid, outreach, various departments, ...

Then the students took a tour to the Golisano Children's hospital and a tour of Geneva Tower (I didn't go so I can't elaborate).

The end.

pretty nice views. BTW, I believe that the interior isn't done yet. It won't be ready until August 1st. Right now I think they only have the "shell" or "frame" of the rooms (what goes where). Unfinished product.

Indeed, the interior isn't done yet. A picture would show cement for most parts and a few unfurnished rooms for the others. I don't have any. Rooms are pretty large though.

And also, not everyone is going to get such a nice view. 20th floor is the top floor.

Tough decision since I really enjoyed my time there. Goodluck to SDN waitlisters - hope my seat is filled by one of you.

Great pictures Lunt. Thanks. Just got my room assignment........very low floor. Who do I have to autopsy to get to the 20th floor. Lunt, did they talk about parking? Is it undergound?

Here's the answer the residential office gave me when I asked them the same question

"Parking will be provided for students and residents of Geneva Tower. Some parking will be available on site, and those not parking on site will be parking in the West Garage, which is about a block away, with shuttle service provided. Prices for parking have not yet been announced."

Since then, they might have managed to finalize things, though, so to be sure, I'd check with them again.

I got a room on the 7th floor of Geneva! Can't wait.

It's okay archer, you're welcome to visit the 7th floor during post-exam celebrations!

So can anyone let me know what the financial aid package from upstate looks like? Thanks.

I'll second the congrats, and you should certainly rest up. I have to beg to differ on the speed of time however. I can't believe I'm almost done, but first year feels like an eternity ago. You will simply have more waking hours.

That said, get excited because it's a wild ride. I, for one, had the time of my life. You can have fun in med school, even in Syracuse. I'm almost jealous of you guys. Almost.

😉

Has no one been accepted or heard back at all recently? Weird since there were a few interview days before they stopped interviewing. 😕

I know people have mentioned Madison Towers on this board and I am sorry if this is a repeat...But, do any current or former students have experience with this building? I have a week to decide if I want to live there. It is on a high floor, but I am concerned about the noise from 81and the neighborhood. I read some negative reviews about this as well as the condition of the building. Am I better off in Jefferson or Geneva or somewhere downtown? Does Jefferson have similar noise issues?

I don't know about jefferson, but Madison is obviously not as new as Geneva. Most people who live there are from upstate, either students or doctors. I hear for the price you cant beat it. It has bigger rooms then geneva and a lot cheaper. It is also right next to school, and the other two buildings. I think the main thing to understand is you get what you pay for. I know a lot of medical students who move there and have lived there for all four years. You can make it nice with furniture and decorations. For the sound I have no idea how noisy it is. Did you get an apartment on the 81 side or the downtown side?

Hey everyone, I interviewed 2/22 with no response yet. I called up 4/5 to ask when to expect a decision. I was told that the final admissions committee was the night prior and that decisions were to be delivered shortly. And still nothing. Anyone in the same boat?

Same boat. I interviewed on 3/7 (last interview date). I wrote a letter of intent on 4/4 and was told that my application was going to be reviewed later that afternoon. Its been exactly 2 weeks since and nothing yet.

I do. I am extremely grateful! It's just now my life is literally on hold.

Just an FYI May 1st is the deadline to accept your financial aid packet. What does this mean? For ppl that have multiple acceptances, you cant accept a packet everywhere, so expect a
lot of movement after this date. You might find out sooner, than later 🙂!!! Good luck!!!!

Placed on hp alt list via email today. At least I got a response I guess🙁.

Thank you so much for the info. It's so helpful! You're awesome!

For the recent fellow HP waitlisters... Does your online status page list a campus preference?
