If anyone is curious, I got the "update your address" email on 10/24 (Monday), got the acceptance phone call 11/3 (Thurs) around 6pm (I think?), and the email on 11/4 (Fri) around 5pm. Mail came a little later for me, though I live in Boston.

I think on some months, people got the phone call sooner than our month though! If I remember correctly, the first October interviewee who reported an acceptance phone call was on 11/2 or so, which gave me a whole day to obsessively check SDN and worry 🙂

So I called the office and this is what I found out:
It takes about 2 weeks for any updates to be added to the file (I sent mine at the end of the last month with the view that I will be considered for the month of January..but it has still not been updated in my file)
Deferred files are reviewed once at the end of every month (just like other files)
If they have any decision for deferred people, they will send us an email to update contact info/address.
I hope this helps! Good luck to us!

This helps a great deal, thank you! But has anyone actually gotten in after being deferred early on in the cycle??

No clue!
As the email says, many students are deferred first and then accepted..so keeping the fingers crossed!

Does anyone know if they send pre-interview rejection emails or if I should take the long and continuous silence as a no? After a good three months of not hearing from them after sending numerous updates I've kind of given up on Tufts, but there is still a shred of hope inside me somewhere.... Does anyone have information that can finally crush it?

Well, there are still four interview dates available as of a few seconds ago. My intuitive feeling is that they are going to be sending out interview invites for a couple of weeks still; I got mine a week ago.

So did anyone figure out whether that update contact info email was for every one that interviewed or whether it was a more beneficial clue? Lol

I got it today.... So I guess we'll find out sometime in the next week! Does anyone know when they usually call (day or time?)? Good luck everyone!

Just to add to the mystery of the process, I got an acceptance call but never got an "update contact info" email.

My phone call came around 11:30am their time. Good luck!

Does anyone know how they weigh the interview? I know some schools will separate applications into academic and non-academic scores and place the interview in with the non-academic components of the application. Other schools have already decided they like the applicant and want to see if they have a personality consistent with their mission and the necessary communication skills to be an effective physician. Any insight would be much appreciated!

I don't know, but I would think it's the latter. If you are there, it's because they like you already.

I agree it's probably the latter, but Tufts interviews way more people than they accept so your chances aren't as good when you interview here as compared to other schools..

Last year for OOS the acceptance rate is 16% and 24% for IS but they might over accept a little so your chances are slightly higher than that.

Well there you go, I guess. That seems pretty low?

I know they said they interview about 1000 people and accept maybe 300-400? If even that much. I feel like other med schools interview less and accept about the same..

Where are you getting your information? Most schools accept ~50% of interviewees, and Tufts seems to accept more than that..

According to USNEWS for last year:

They interviewed 219 IS applicants and accepted 133 (~61% accepted)

They interviewed 867 OOS applicants and accepted 473 (~55% accepted)

Are we talking accepted after wailisted as well?

I remember from my interview them naming the numbers and I believe it was like 35-40% get outright acceptances. Maybe that number is higher due to people being accepted off the wait list. Also being IS or OOS doesn't really matter at tufts...

Huh? Each class is only 200 students.

They accepted 600 students total (including the waitlist).

Of those 600, 400 turned down Tufts for a different school.

That leaves ~200 matriculants for Tufts.

Okay so I think this is how it works:

1000 interview.
They outright accept 300ish and defer and then possibly wait list another 300ish (with probably like 100 or so being accepted after being deferred but before being waitlisted).

That's how you get 600 acceptances. So your chances after an interview are indeed about 60 percent for an acceptance BUT your chances of an outright acceptance are probably only around 35%.

I like the odds of that! I am currently deferred, so hoping to be in those 100 to get accepted before waitlist.
Do you guys know what should we do now? I mean, we can send update letter, emails to the dean, etc?
Also, from the website it seems that waitlist and deferred movements vary every cycle. Last cycle had way too many people withdrawing and thus others getting off waitlist. I dont know about this cycle... 🙁

Good luck to us all waiting! 🙂

It's been one week since the "you will receive a decision within the next week" email..... Tufts Lies!!!

is anyone interviewing in February that might cancel or reschedule their date? I am scheduled in March but due to travel plans my life would be so much easier if I could get a February date. if so... pm me please!

Anyone hear back yet? And does anyone know if the adcom has even met?

I study most days in the conference room right outside the admissions office, so I can tell you Dean Neumeyer has already left for the day, haha. It didn't seem like he was making any calls today, though today WAS an interview day. Maybe they'll start making calls tomorrow? haha I'm starting to get anxious!

Today is the 6th business day since they sent the "update your contact info" email. Who do they torture us like this!!!

Would you mind keeping an eye on Dean Neumeyer for us all, and keeping us updated on his daily activities? =D

Every time I thought I did, I checked my phone. When I saw no one had called, I checked SDN using their app. This happened countless times to me through out the day.

sdn has an app??????? Why has it taken so long for me to learn of this?????

We seriously going to have to wait through the weekend for this??

Tuftssss... why must you play with my heart in this cruel way 🙁

I got the good news from dean neumeyer an hour ago, today's the day 😀

Really!? Oh man!! Time to panic! I wonder how many people he'll call today and whether he'll get through everyone or wait till Monday >_<

so judging from this forum, looks like acceptance calls went out for 3 days in jan & dec, and 4 days in nov, anytime between 9AM and 630PM. sound right?

if that's the case, we have til next tuesday, or possibly early wednesday.

:xf:

Is he still in his office?

Haha didn't study up there today but if I had I would've stormed in there and demanded my status!

Didn't get a call so it looks like I have two more days of anxiety come Monday.

I'm so anxious. Especially because when I was accepted to Creighton they said they would call everyone...I never got a call or email and ended up having to call the admissions office myself...I did get in but I had so many days of stress that was unnecessary! Also do you think they r going by alphabetical order or interview day with the call?

Hmm, maybe that's what happened to my Creighton interview invite?

Well, looks like another few days of staring at my phone, screening for 617 phone numbers. This will all be over soon.

I sure hope they're not going in alphabetical or interview day order haha my last name starts with C and I was the first interview date of the month lol. I have a feeling it's very random but I guess we'll see come early this week!

Chemistryguy, do you have a Ph.D? You can't go to both Umass and Tufts. I hope I get your unfilled spot.

Accepted this evening by phone.

Congratulations! Here's hoping that your final decision making on which school to attend does not take as long as some of those II are taking.

Free some spots for the next guy on the line😀
