was deferred on Dec 15th..trying my best to get their attention on my application, sent them an update letter, another recommendation form a doctor i shadowed..i dont know how helpful that is going to be, but i wanna show my willingness to attend this university!
looking from last year's thread there were only a couple SDNers who got off this list and into alternative list who finally got accepted..

i had called them earlier about the difference of deferred vs waitlist and they said that our application is still actively being considered at this point (I am sure though they are just lying somewhere in a file) and we will be asked to let them know whether we want to be considered for waitlist or not and then we get off waitlist..!
and i thought interview was the last step in the process! too much waiting in the med school application cycles!

Hold on.... so you're saying that the best possible outcome after being deferred is being moved onto the waitlist??

Oh no, moving to the waitlist is the next step and then acceptance or rejection. I think whatever I said was a bit confusing. Here is a link from their website:
http://www.tufts.edu/med/admissions/md/interviewedapplicants/index.html

you can be accepted or rejected any time from a deferred decision. if you haven't heard until later on in the cycle (once they start waitlisting people) you can then be put on the waitlist (or put on the waitlist at any time), but you dont HAVE to be put on the waitlist first.

alright, that makes me feel better. thanks!

Is there a point of having any hope for this school if I havent heard anything from them yet? Completed Aug 4th

So at the interview day, they gave us sheets saying "You interviewed with X. Please address correspondence to your interview in care of Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Admissions, etc etc). Does that mean we shouldn't e-mail thank you notes at all?

I wanted to e-mail my interviewers because I've been traveling and won't be able to send a written thank-you note for another week and I interviewed last week. I can't really find their e-mail addresses though...should I just wait and mail? Or call the admissions office and ask for e-mail addresses?

I think you can just e-mail your thank you notes to the admissions e-mail/Emily Condon and ask her to forward them on to your interviewers.

I would like to send a letter of interest, does anyone know if we should send it to the dean of admissions or to Emily Condon and she will put it in the file?

I emailed Emily, she said that updates and other letters could be sent to her.

Just got an II today. Complete in Oct. with 3.6, 33M from CA. This school is so expensive but has more "prestige" than the one I got accepted. Still debating whether to go.

From what I gather, "prestige" means very little when it comes to residency matching. It's definitely more important to be somewhere that you feel you can personally do well. That being said, I got great vibes from Tufts when I interviewed there, so it might definitely be worth going to the interview.

Same here. Most/all March interview dates are still open, so I think there are still more interviews to be had.

You are right. I believe prestige means little too but it is annoying when I tell people the school that accepted they were like "Where is that? Never heard of it." Thanks for the feedback about Tufts.

The reason why I hesitated was that all my savings is gone because of applications and stuff so I would have to scrape some cash together to make the trip.

I agree that prestige is not a HUGE deal in that it might affect your first few years out of med school but not the rest (which really is how good of a doctor you are), BUT it's not just prestige, it's also teaching methods and school success and most of all environment.

Taking myself as an example, my state school is much much cheaper, but I absolutely love tufts' teaching philosophy and tufts students do WAY better on Step 1 (don't know if that's reflective of the education received or the students selected though) so it's an extremely difficult decision for me to make.

But I do agree the most important thing to consider when choosing a med school is NOT prestige or even cost, I personally believe it's how you feel you fit in and where you feel you'll perform the best at (and I guess prestige and cost can factor into that decision). Anyway just my two cents. Good luck!

Also oos, keeping fingers crossed for an II. Complete mid - October. Other people who have received II lately, when were you complete?

Also, is anyone who is deferred starting to fill those financial aid forms? I submitted FAFSA last week

Just sent my fall transcript, a list of updates and a letter of interest for tufts....waiting on a post-interview decision. Tufts has been one of my top choices for medical school since I was in high school!!!!

It's unbelievable to me that a school can charge so much for tuition, in one of the most expensive cities in the US, and still have people falling over themselves to go here when they have other options. Prestige? If you want to look at it that way, it's the "worst" med school in Boston. It was a nice place and all, but you'd have to be crazy to go here unless you had a scholarship, Mitt Romney was your dad and fronted the cost, or there were some other extenuating circumstances. IMHO, of course.

:troll:

*hugs* I wish you all the happiness in the world to help boost that low self-esteem you must be sporting. Good luck with your application cycle!

Are you ok?

what if it's the only school you got accepted to?

SDN seems to have become an outlet for frustrations as we head into the homestretch of this application cycle... +pissed+

Ahaha, definitely. But I love SDN, really. It's nice to know there's lots of others going through the same ups and downs of the app process. 🙂

Best of luck to you all.

Does anyone know if Tufts has a second-look visit? And if so, when-ish?

I sent some updates in last week to emily condon. Should I call to make sure they were received?

does anyone know when orientation/first day of classes begin for the regular MD program?

just got the please update your contact info email. after looking through this thread it looks like the acceptance calls go out about 5-7 days later, deferrals shortly after that?

Oh God. I am so nervous about this decision and do not want to wait a week! Tufts has been one of my dream schools since high school and I would be thrilled to receive an acceptance. However, my school has an early assurance program for biology majors, and two of my classmates were accepted to the class of 2016 two years ago through that. I am not a biology major and therefore didn't have that opportunity and am now worried that I won't get in because people from my school are already accepted. Should I worry about this or am I overanalyzing?

you should keep on worrying, because that is an extremely productive thing to do at this point.

Okay before everyone gets into a battle of who's being mean and who's not, let's just get back on topic...Tufts' application.

Not to freak you out, but when I was waiting for the cycle, it was about 2-3 "business days" after receiving that email. It might have been 5-7 because there was a weekend in between for me, as I remember sitting nervously that weekend and eating pints of ice creams! lol
but I wish you all the best..yes you are over-analyzing, but that is a great trait all pre-meds share! just be patient and as I was discussing this with another friend, "having a lot of patience will help you get a lot of patients!"
You can chose not to laugh! 😉

Okay you don't have to be so rude.

sorry about that. i wasnt trying to be rude. I'm just pointing out that you're better off not worrying about things you can't control at this point, and the sarcasm was to highlight the silliness of continuing to worry/overanalyze.

So did anyone figure out whether that update contact info email was for every one that interviewed or whether it was a more beneficial clue? Lol

I got it today.... So I guess we'll find out sometime in the next week! Does anyone know when they usually call (day or time?)? Good luck everyone!
