Ahh lots to take in. Thanks to the people who have helped out so far!

I don't have a car but I take it that having a car would be necessary for living in Lexington?

IMO, it's 100% necessary.

To everyone that I've asked, "How do you like living in Lexington?" They smile and say they really like it. Then I say, "What about the traffic . . . ?" And then they don't smile, and they sorta pause and say something like, "Well yeah, the traffic is pretty awful. It takes a while to get anywhere at all. But I still like Lexington!" Haha, I've asked a lot of people and they all say the same thing!

I think it's really unlikely that you could find a place where you wouldn't need a car. But on the plus side, cars last much longer here compared to Canada (and therefore you can get older ones for really cheap). It's cause the winters aren't so harsh.

I'm going to withdraw my application, and I have an interview scheduled for 11/22... does anyone want to try to coordinate timing so that they can snag an earlier date? I'd rather benefit the sdn community - pm me

I heard that by traffic though they mean an extra 10 minutes, not like big city traffic. From the students there I also heard that rent and mortgage are similar depending on where you are, so buying a house and getting a roommate might be a good plan 🙂

Have any of those who have been accepted heard anything or received anything after sending in the acceptance letter?

nothing here, except I did get an e-mail about an "enhancement scholarship".

meeting up with a realtor on saturday to look for places to live! any advice in addition to what's already been posted?

come on kentucky, i'm sending good vibes your way today....

Just got the acceptance call 🙂

Nice to have one in the bag this early!

So what do we do now? When's the last day to accept and all, or is there a deposit or something that needs to paid soon? I'm waiting for other schools obviously, but especially the Canadian ones which you don't find out for until like May.

Good luck to everyone!!!

After I turned in the enhancement scholarship, I emailed the financial aid office about other scholarships. They said they will be sending out emails with scholarship opportunities throughout the year. We also have a reception on January 7th which covers a lot of ground on financial aid. The staff in the financial aid office are extremely nice and really work with the students at UK med. I'm also going to look for external scholarships for med students, too, though.

With oos tuition next year estimated at 67k, I think that may be one of the highest in the US

Wow. UK will be very pricey and I am definitely headed for a ton of student of debt... It's worth it in the end, just not excited to spend the next 15 years in debt

Yeah I kept seeing the tuition and stuff and thinking, "I doubt my debt will really be that high . . . " Then I got ahold of a debt calculator. Wake-up call, big time. Hello, moonlight shifts!

I just cancelled a 11/22 interview date. I interviewed earlier but my 11/22 date never got cancelled. Hope someone nice gets the spot! 🙂

Does anyone know the chances of getting off the waiting list for the interview date?

It seems like they are only interviewing 16 people per time. For the 17th person, will they just send an email saying that they need to reschedule or something?

Thanks!

Ummmm....Kansas? I dare you to say you love KU in your interview (or hope you did). Kentucky faculty/doctors would probably laugh you right out of the interview. It's UK!!

Or if you really want to impress them, when they ask you where you're from, just say, "It doesn't matter, because everywhere is Big Blue Nation" 😛

I was recently invited to interview as the 17th person on my date. Got a call from the office of admissions about a week before the interview.

I just assumed that one of the sixteen people ahead of me had canceled their interview, but I don't think they ever told me one way or the other. Also, when I did interview, I was surprised to find out that there were 17 people interviewing that day. I am hoping it means they liked my application and really wanted to interview me, but who knows haha.

I have no clue how often they interview more than 16 people, but hopefully it will happen in your case too!!

I received my letter of offer and it says I need to "Accept" by Nov 23. Just wanted to confirm that if I say Yes, I am able to withdraw at a later date if I get another acceptance from a different school that I'd prefer to go to...

The offer is conditional after all.

you are correct. you can withdraw at any time. if you received multiple acceptances, you can "accept" all of them, but you must withdraw from every school except the one you want to go to by May 15th. you can still hold waitlist spots after May 15th, but can only hold 1 acceptance.

Accepted! Got the acceptance via voice mail because of work but I'd take an acceptance anyhow any day!

Congratulations dakangel! I missed the call by about 4 seconds and called right back.

When did you interview?

On November 8th. If I remember correctly, you were two people away from me in the conference room. From Boon, right?

I just got the conditional acceptance letter via mail today and I have some questions:

- what exactly do they mean by "an acceptable level of academic performance" that I need to maintain? A+? :O
- if my course schedule has changed significantly since the submission of my AMCAS application so that I am no longer taking a full course load, is this considered a violation of "strong academic performance?" -_-
- the student visa information for international students will come with the "final" letter of acceptance, right?

Thanks!

Got mine in the mail and sent it off back to them saying yes.

I was wondering about that too... I'm guessing it means if you had mostly A/A+ then falling below a B might be bad, I doubt they are super strict with that. They just don't want you to bomb all your classes. A change in status might be something you want to ask them about, however if you already have all the courses needed to graduate or already have and the pre-reqs are done I doubt it will be an issue as well. Just have a good reason other than I got in so I don't need to lol.

And yes, everything else from what they said will come later.

Just wondering, has anyone started a Facebook group for the entering class of 2016 yet?

Hi,

My primary application was verified Nov 11th and I applied here Oct 20th, but I still haven't even received a receipt for the primary application?

Does UK give them out out acknowledgments of receiving your primary ? Approx. how long does it take to find out about a secondary if they do not give them out?

I'm a Canadian with a 3.76gpa, 3.69sgpa, and 31Q mcat

Thanks, and congrats to all of you guys who got accepted!

I thought I read a minimum GPA/MCAT requirement for out of state applicants (I think the min. MCAT was a 32), but I might be mixing up this school with another one. UK does not screen for secondaries so if you meet their requirements, you automatically get one. I think that was the only thing I received from them in terms of acknowledging the primary. I would call and ask if I were you. Good luck!

Hmm are you sure? I was under the impression that UK screened all out of state applications.

I also think they screen....

I got that "unless you have ties to kentucky we aren't considering your app anymore" email before they were willing to give me a secondary. so they definitely are looking at them!

I do think you should call them about it. I really don't know if they screen out of state applicants with a min. mcat of 32 because I got a 25 and I got accepted. So I think it is worth a try giving them a call. All the best 🙂
