OH! You had the same problem as me! How did you fix it???? I've tried a million things (typing it by hand, using a new browswer, etc...) and nothing seems to save correctly!

Nothing worked for me either. I ended up just starting from scratch and completing everything in one sitting, and then clicking checkout instead of save order. I was able to see a preview of my application after selecting checkout and everything looked fine.

Phew it worked! Thank you so much! It looks like it deleted the spaces between my paragraphs and turned all my apostrophe's into ?'s, but that's a lot better than randomly deleting sentences!

I appreciate your quick response....such an annoying problem!

For anyone who has already turned in their secondary, is it 1500 word limit total for all of the questions or is it 1500 words per question? Thanks!

I would like to know this as well.

I'm assuming it is the total word limit, but it's better to be sure. If anything I will call the admissions office tomorrow and let you know what they say. I haven't even received the secondary as of yet. :/

When they say "provide a chronology" or whatever, do they literally mean a timeline? I had thought a little paragraph with a brief explanation of each activity, but if they actually just want a list with names of activities, that's different.

From the admissions office:

"The computer should be able to accept between 1000-1500 words in each of the essay sections.. Most people will be writing about 500 words."

Seriously? If people are writing 500 words for each of these questions, I can't imagine that they are just listing activities. They must be providing in depth explanations about each item, or something.

I think he meant that people were writing about 500 words for each of the two essay questions.

Ah, I see. So about 500 words for the first two questions, and then short answers for everything else? I haven't actually seen the secondary, only the questions posted on this thread, so it might be a little less clear to me. 🙂

Anyone apply here but still not get a 2ndary? I was verified in early June....(OOS)

Does anyone know if Miami waits until your letters are in before sending secondaries?

Me. I'm OOS with MCAT 35< and GPA 3.7<. I'm not going to hold my breath, but that sucks, I kinda wanted to be in Miami.

Edit: I got their first email 11 days ago, verified early June.

Also verified early, no secondary. OOS, MCAT >35 but GPA <3.5. But I liiiiiiike Miami. :xf:

Edit: got the secondary in my inbox today!

That could be the case. I'm in-state and have yet to receive a secondary, and I also do not have my letters in yet. According to their website everyone that applies gets one, so I'm sure it will get to everyone sooner or later.

I know many posters before me have posed this question, but I don't think we have yet reached a consensus.

Are people literally doing timelines for the chronology questions, or writing descriptions similar to their prim. app? Thanks to whoever answers and :luck:

Holy #### this secondary made me want to smother bunnies. Glad it's finally submitted

I received an email from U Miami about 1.5 weeks ago saying they would make a decision shortly as to whether I would receive a secondary. I thought they sent them to everyone. I haven't heard back from them. C'mon, Miami! Should I email them back?

I was verified June 2nd, received the first email but no 2nd. My LOR's aren't in yet, might give them a call tomorrow to see if I'm missing something...

also no 2ndary but no letters yet either (i concur with that hypothesis)

For what it's worth, I'm an in-state applicant, all my letters are in, and I haven't received one yet either. So...who knows...

Sorry if this is a dumb question; I'm just a little paranoid about the delay. For those of you who got a secondary, did you fill out the reply card in the initial contact e-mail they sent? I know it said that it was only if you had affiliation with the school, but when I was reading through it it sounded like it was necessary to move further. Again, sorry if this comes off a little hyper!

Yeah I am in-state and still don't have one. I was verified June 2 and all my letters were in before UM had my primary. I may call UM in a few days if I still don't hear anything, because I'm a little worried that they screen based on the tone of that initial email. I will post if I get a definite answer.

Hi all,

I was a successful applicant last year into UM. As per Myuu's request, I would be happy to drop by and help out every now and then. Just some general tips:

Although applying early is the way to go, you will be waiting for quite some time before you get invites to interviews. I remember being done by the end of June and not getting a reply until mid August.

The other major thing I would like to say is that applying to medical school is different than applying to college. College, in my opinion, is more "fair" in the sense that if you have a certain threshold of GPA and test scores, you are good to go. Medical school is much more like applying for a job. How you fit in with a specific program is much more important than you may think. By fitting in to a program, I mean getting along with the administrators and interviewers on a mental level.

If your program is a primary care based school, do you naturally emphasize primary care? If its more specialty based, do you naturally want to specialize? Understand the attitude the school has about the field of medicine and medicine's direction in the future will help you greatly with interviewing and picking schools. If you do not "gel" with the people at the program, take that into consideration. You don't want to be in a situation where you are unhappy with your medical school.

Last but not least, do your best to calm down about the process and keep a big picture perspective. This is one step in a much longer journey. Be who you naturally are and emphasize your good qualities through your actions, not your words.

If anyone has any other questions let me know. I'm open to PM's as well.

Good Luck:luck:

I finally received the secondary and my letters are still not in for those of you that are wondering

Also, last year those short answer responses had a 375 character limit so I'm probably going to roll with that

I got the email today as well..
As for the limit.. Was it characters or words?

How did you guys enter your pre-requisite courses into the secondary application? It tells to enter the grade, year, and institution in their columns, however there's only one box to enter.

Also, do we have to enter the course names & numbers (like BCH-3023, etc.?)

Just received 2ndary. Very suspicious of it, why would they send it out a week later and give preference to others if I submitted early/had all letters in? I have a feeling that perhaps they're just trying to collect more fees.

It was 375 characters for the short response questions last year. The two essays had a much larger limit like they do this year.

I don't really understand. Are you implying that UM sent your secondary later because they know they aren't going to interview you but still want your money? Why would they spend time screening applications BEFORE they send out secondaries when they say that they don't screen? That seems like a waste of time. Maybe you are at a very very slight disadvantage because you got your secondary a week later than some people got theirs, but I don't think that UM did this on purpose. I'm sure they send out secondaries in a somewhat random order, don't worry! 🙂

Anyone else get an email asking to submit a photo waist/shoulders up?

First Miami screens on basic stats, then they screen with that looong secondary. It's a good thing I really want to go to Miller 🙂. For those that haven't gotten the secondary, I'm IS and was verified on the 8th I think. Not high stats either so I'm sure most of you will get the secondary.

Submitted 😀😀😀 I wanna go here so bad!!!!!! Miami please take me!!!!!😀😀

yup. it may look bad, but it's better than landing an interview based on that and having nothing to say. and frankly, it won't make or break you from any one school.

How long did it take you guys to get the secondary? It has been 2 weeks since I got the first email. Should I call/email the office of admission or wait some more?

I'm having some technical difficulties with the secondary application, and I wondered if anyone had any experience with this. Basically, I wrote out all of my responses to the essay and short response questions separately and went to complete it all in one sitting. I put everything in, and when I clicked "continue" at the bottom of the page I got a "SYSTEM ERROR" page, and all of my data was erased when I went back. I tried redoing it again, and then once more in a different browser (Firefox first, then Internet Explorer.) Same problem all three times. I'm wondering if, maybe, it's a word limit thing? All of my responses are under 1500 words for sure, but I don't think they're within the 375 character limit like last year. Also, I keep seeing people mentioning an option to save, but I don't see any option to do that on mine (maybe it's after the continue button?) Does anyone have any advice? This is driving me crazy! 😕

It's been a while for me, too. I'm also wondering about sending a follow-up email, but I'll probably wait a bit longer.
